I was trained as a Bikram teacher. I love how Jimmy is so open to learning from other styles and scrupulous about respect for Bikram. I find the distinctions between Bikram's style and Jimmy's as he explains them are very illuminating. Back in India, yoga styles were a kind of patriotism, and deviation from that style was considered disloyal. I much prefer our American willingness to learn from other styles and update yoga with scientific understanding of body mechanics. I left Bikram yoga precisely to broaden and deepen my understanding of yoga. Bravo, Jimmy! I share your respect for the Bikram foundation & Ghosh tradition, and I also share your love of Vinyasa!
Thanks Jimmy, really appreciate this conversation around never making anyone's yoga wrong. I think it is hugely valuable when we are able to offer difference to individuals for them to discern for themselves how to best explore their practice. Great video - thanks
Very impressive how you can explain the differences of styles without making other styles wrong and while continuing to respect the lineage and history. I hope this goes viral because all yogis should understand the nuances as well as carry on the traditions.
@@angelesyogini5792 When I say FLOW, I referring to the sequence Bikram put together (the order of the 26 poses)...I don't mean continuous flow like Vinyasa..hope that makes sense.
Hello Sir! 👋 Jimmyji - have you and Bikram ever sat down to discuss the differences between your method and his 26/2 sequence? OR the differences between some of the posture alignment? Just curious if you have had a conversation - what those discussions brought about as far as Bikram trying a posture, or thinking about a posture, in a different way. ❤️ Jo
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I hope you know that I meant no disrespect by asking it. I have a deep appreciation and love for both practices. ❤️ Your passion for learning and teaching is inspiring.
Please....how can I find a class taught by Jimmy Barkan at present?? After practicing for 11 years, I feel the greatest class I could participate in would be led by Jimmy Barkan. Maybe I am finally ready to start learning something.❤

Is it flow in the Bikram Class???
I don't know what you mean? Is what in the Bikram flow?/
Sr. You said in your video what defines Bikram yoga is the 26 posture sequence FLOW with 2 breathing exercises.
So I’m a little confused.

Never in a million years… Bikram is very fixed in his concepts.. It would never happen! He’s very passionate about his way… 🙏🙏🙏
