Knowing about our lineage is invaluable- thank you! Also LOVE how the last 20 minutes of each Barkan class routinely varies for different body areas.

I do love the Bikram sequence. However, your Barkan Method is definitely more full body and addresses the need to change it up! You’re right. The Barkan Method is like a weight training approach, body sculpting approach, you gotta “change it up”! ❤️❤️❤️ love it

Bishnu Ghosh created the 26+2 for Bikram specifically. It's not meant to be for everyone. There was also never external heat prescribed with it either. Bikram added that in the late 80s or so. Ghosh believed sequencing needed to be created prescriptive for each student and would change over time many times. This echoes the teachings of Krishnamacharya. Ghosh also did weight training and bodybuilding to compliment yoga. He and Krishnamacharya taught yoga as a prescriptive practice, not a set sequence, and that a pose should always accommodate the student, not the other way around. Bhut let's be clear, Bishnu Ghosh created the 26+2 sequence, for one student only.
External heat isn't necessary, and for many people it does more harm than good. Your body lets you in when it's ready to go farther. Unless you're in a cold room, it just increases pitta and makes overstretching more likely.

I had to bootleg a studio in my bathroom for my Bikram addiction 😂 don’t get me wrong, it works great w my two heaters and a tub full of hot water (I’m very proud of it)!! But I miss the group setting very much 😭 we have one real Bikram studio in Memphis but the instructor/ owner is a awful narcissist and made the entire class so uncomfortable and awkward I had to leave, along with many others. Ughhhhhh I wish there were more options here!

Have you ever seen the Hot Yoga Dome?? It is for a Hot Yoga Practice at home. I can usually have my temps around 103-107 with 35-45 humidity using my 2 heaters (I have a “Home Dome” 2 person size. ❤👍❤️

Great video, Jimmy. You mentioned the importance of hip openers and I really struggle in this area, probably because I only do 26x2. Can you recommend a hip opener or two for me to start practicing? BTW-I met you and took your open class at Zura in Bloomfield and plan to take your teacher training there in early 2024. Thanks! -Zack

Maybe you should introduce the advanced bikram series and make it more accessible. People who practice regularly know that Bikram method works.
