I too remember this song and still sing or hum it regularly even after some 40 years. Now that I'm reminded what band it came from I recall having the album. Little chance of finding the vinyl. I've searched iTunes for "The New York Rock and Roll Ensemble" - no luck.
Wow, about 40 years since I head this gem as well. NYR&RE was one of my favorites. I saw them at Harpur College (SUNY Binghamton) in 1969 (? on the year).
Lyrics: Hey, Mr. Tree Do you remember me? I used to sit on your knee, Mr. Tree. Long, long ago we used to play in the snow, you know We would bend when the wind would blow, Mr. Tree. Won't you help me? I've been locked out of harmony. Please, please, save me. I'll be here for eternity. You wait too long. Now I don't know my right from wrong. I know some day they'll be alone, Mr. Tree. Now, I must go. I'll be back in a day or so. Don't look worried. I think you know, Mr. Tree. I'll be here for eternity. You wait too long. Now I don't know my right from wrong. I know some day they'll be alone, Mr. Tree. I said, hey, Mr. Tree. Do you remember me? I used to sit on your knee, Mr. Tree. Mr. Tree Mr. Tree

Now that I think of it, I believe Cliff Nivison is singing! It's definitely NOT Brian Corrigan or Michael Kamen, and I don't believe Dorian Rudnitsky nor Marty Fulterman (Mark Snow) sang back then.
Excellent band that I saw in college.

Hey, Mr. Tree
Do you remember me?
I used to sit on your knee,

Mr Tree is one of my favorite songs of NY Rock! Not sure who is singing lead, it's not Michael Kamen, maybe Brian Corrigan?
