Thanks for showing this on UA-cam. I am John Hill, the drummer on this track, and my brothers George and David (both younger brothers) are no longer with us. Those were the days! We used to swap gigs with the 13th Floor Elevators in the Texas Hill Country and it was more fun than anyone could imagine! In Houston, where we grew up, we played the Catacombs and the Living Eye, and hung out with all things psychedelic. Happy New Year 2010!!!

I went to school with David Hill and a friend of his from this period, Spencer. They were both very accomplished musicians, doing great ensemble guitar work and singing impromptu harmonies. I'm sorry to hear that David has passed away. He was a great influence on me. I owe him a lot. He turned me on to the Gibson 345 and 355 models of electric guitar. I never got away from them. As a result, Strats have never been my thing. And this is a very cool tune. I'll post it to my Facebook page.
That is BADASSED, John! Nothing grooves quite so intuitively as a family band. Your fills, the ride cymbal bell, the stoned-out Texas gallop of the song are really classic. If you have any more vinyl of the band you ort to post it here, seriously. BTW, good to see you in the hills last night. You are looking good. -Sonny
I wouldn't say it's "just" a Lucille ripoff. The chords in the B part are different, the riff is different, and the words are different. There is a similarity in form since both follow an A-A-B 12-bar blues format, and in this area of the universe it's quite common to find similarities. In fact, in the Blues world nobody worries about copyright except when there's a shit-ton of money to be made...and I don't think Little Richard would have made a profit if he had tried sueing them. In fact, it might have backfired because he probably "ripped off" an older blues song.
