@@Xenonic2 He did. Both he and Tom Hulce (who played Mozart) were nominated for Best Actor that year and both gave fantastic performances. But, Abraham came out the winner in the end.
Honestly it's a great film but I think it suffers because the original play was the ultimate example of the "what if" writing exercise in conflict with the historical reality of Mozart and his music. It's so much about the sorrow and frustration of the earthbound artists comparing themselves to the transcendent ones that it's a distraction from what most music lovers feel about Mozart. That scene where Mozart is guiding Salieri in transcribing his conception resolves that conflict IMHO and is the most effective and wonderful sequence but the whole film feels a little off and wrong because we have a hard time taking its universe on its own terms. Mozart was so much an actual genius that we have a hard time accepting him more as an _example_ of genius, I would say.
To anyone that might think that Amadeus is just another stuffy, costume drama, let me tell you that I feel you, but this film is definitely not that. It's an absolute banger.
What a breathtaking summary edit!!! I am continually impressed with this movie because there is absolutely nothing style-wise (that I know of) to date it. It is eternally fresh and relevant like Mozart himself. Honestly, this looks like it could have been newly released last week!
It's easy to rip on this movie for not being "historically accurate". But here is the thing, "Amadeus" is adapted for the screen from Peter Shaffer's Tony award winning play. That play was based off of an 1830 Russian play that played the "Salieri murdered Mozart" muckraking rumor like fact. And even then, the "true story" of Mozart's death is unknown. Then, you add the perspective of the story where the audience is told the story from a madman. Salieri; in the play/movie, is not in his right mind, so the perspective is possibly skewed if you think about it too hard. So, therefore it gets a pass in the whole "historically accurate" debate. I can't believe I'm saying this but "Amadeus" has more in common with "300" than it does with a Biography program (which is what you need to watch in order to get the facts and even those are shrouded in mystery). We will never know what happened to Mozart. For some, it's easier to imagine he was murdered rather than dying at a young age from something as common as pneumonia. Rant over. Love this movie.
@@siphillis That came about because director Milos Forman stated that he wanted the actors to focus more on performance rather than on if they're getting a foreign accent right. He viewed the whole accent debate as a distraction as the performance was far more important in his view.
@@cooperxtreme1566 You're right. It wasn't made to be "historically accurate". Peter Shaffer admitted to taking "artistic license" when writing both the play and the script adaptation which had to change things to fit the medium of film.
FINALLY, youtube recommends something actually amazing! So good!! I dove into your channel; it's great to see so many diverse films! , So many fave in there: Akira, Bladerunner, Apocalypse Now, Money Ball, T2, Tron Legacy, Sunshine, Ad Astra, all of Kubrick's films. 😄 Looking forward to seeing what else you focus the lens on (so to speak, heh). If you're interested, have a look at Kundun, The Wings of Honneamise, Pi, and The Crow; I was always impressed by the shots of those films.
I was dragged back in the early 80's to see this film. I thought it was another boring foreign movie type film with constant boring dialog. WOW was I wrong. What I didn't expect was how humorous this was. This film introduced me to classical music. Now I listen to classical all the time. Truly a brilliant film and should be studies from the acting to the how they filmed these scenes that look so real.
To quote Dr. Ian Malcolm: “You did it! You crazy son of a bitch you did it!” Was so pumped to see those previews on Insta. Amadeus is pure art, from its beginnings as a play to a motion picture. You did this film justice my friend. Keep on doin what you do🔥
I muted this video and played the ending song in the movie Mozart-Piano Concerto in D Minor. Imo that piece fits this video perfectly and a lot of times the montage perfectly matches the rhythm of the song.
The Magnificent Ambersons (Orson Welles), Black Narcissus (Michael Powell), Cinema Paradiso (Giuseppe Tornatore), The Piano (Jane Campion), The Age of Innocence (Martin Scorsese), Inherent Vice (Paul Thomas Anderson). Please? 🙏🙃
This is honestly a cinematic masterpiece, but nobody I’ve ever spoken to has ever seen it or talked about it.
Micah/Dark Fantasy Writer a tragedy! Love this film so much. I believe F. Murray Abraham won best actor for his performance as Salieri.

Award winning film and critically acclaimed drama based on a incredible story of wolfgang amadeus mozart. One of the best movies in 80's.
No, one of best movies of all times.
The story is fictional
My favorite movie of all time. It’s still so gorgeous to look at to this day.
Agreed. I think it should have won Best Cinematography Oscar.

For those wondering

1:01 to 2:50 Requiem-Dies Irae
2:51 to 4:10 Requiem-Lacrimosa

The scene where he is dictating the Requiem is one of the best in movie history.
proof that cinema is an art form.
The video it´s like the movie: Satirical, funny but at the same time tragedic, a great montage, and a full masterpiece
My favorite movie, ever! I never quite appreciated the cinematography till now. What a difference a video focusing on the camera work can make.
oh..when I 8 years old,I watched this movie in school classic music club.I can't forget the shock I felt back then..This movie is excellent even now!
Many of us remembered Tom Hulce from Animal House. Imagine how surprised we were...
The end is so sad.
Proud of being Czech. Rest in peace Miloš Forman 🌹
When I was told to watch this movie years ago, I was skeptical but I gave it a shot. It was, and still is to this day, my favorite movie of all time.
Underrated film
Eight Oscars.
Nop
It's not.
I saw this movie when I was little bc i loved ( and I still love) Mozart ... I’ll never forget this masterpiece
F. Murray was stupendous , that is why he won the Academy award for best actor. This movie is from 1984, where does the time go.
In my opinion, the film should have won the Oscar for Best Cinematography. Stunning, beautiful, haunting..
the beauty of Anne With An E would be such a wonderful and magical audiovisual experience
