Hey, creator of album #8 here, just wanna say a few words of gratitude real quick (she says as she writes 4 paragraphs) so, when i started making tiapfyh i thought it was just gonna be pills & good advice as a single. then when i got offered an artist in residency spot in shoreline wa on richmond beach, i jumped at the chance & finished the rest of the album in spring, as vaccines were first starting to roll out to the general american public. so i began the record knowing it was gonna be a record in march of this year... & had to release it in june, because of the nature of the residency. because of the impulsivity & lack of a budget at the time, i wasn't really able to advertise the album in the way i wanted to. my normal avenues of advertising were too costly for a whole album, i was between management so rollout was sloppy, etc etc. so putting my hard work into it only for it to be... largely ignored in favor of my more "popular" songs was... kinda hard for me? this isn't to say i got no recognition, pills & good advice is def beginning to be a fan favorite, but i felt like it didn't reach beyond my already existing fanbase. maybe it's arrogance, maybe it's just feeling like i was getting recognition for the wrong things. either way, I remember once the novelty of The Vine Girl Having A Debut Album wore off, the rest of june & some of july was reeeealllyyyy hard for me. like, maybe-me-on-my-own-album-telling-myself-not-to-die-was-a-fucked-up-form-of-foreshadowed-self-help type of hard. but i remember you shouting me out in your monthly album review for a quick second around that time. I think you made some joke about an avocado or something?? idk lol - either way, it was a genuine pick-me-up that kinda made me remember "oh yeah, no matter what happens, my debut album was really good, & i should be proud i got to do that, & just keep moving forward." & it genuinely made me feel better. & that was just a shorthanded joke about an avocado, imagine what my placement in THIS video is making me feel!!!!! I commented on the "best music of 2021" video too, cuz i was included in that as "best penultimate track" & one of the "most underrated albums" (shame i didn't get the jcpenny award, maybe next year) but for somebody to talk about my work being one of the best albums of the year, at the length of how long it takes to cook a hot pocket no less... idk. I'm stunned. I'm floored. I'm happy as fuck. I'm grateful. Thank you, Michelangelo "The Snare" Snare. Anyways time to watch the rest of the video now lol
It’s so crazy to think I saw Little Simz just before her first album and blow up! When Gorillaz was on the Humanz tour, she was one of the openers and she’s amazing on stage!
@@shimmipenguin1764 dude what? It's still on humanz. Spotify is not the end all be all of music. I have the vinyl. That's why to me it's a humanz song without a doubt. Why would I even think to clarify that? What a silly thing to get upset over
I'm so happy Nurture is on this list. I've been a fan of Porter since he released Language. Nurture came out during one of the worst depressive episodes I've had in many years, and it single handedly lifted me out of it. Everything felt dull and lifeless, but Nurture spoke to me on so many levels and helped me find joy in life again. His Secret Sky festival made me feel connected to people again, seeing people all over the world come together in a virtual space to celebrate music together. I will never forget Nurture.
It was my most played album of the year, and my top three songs were Look at the Sky, Wind Tempos, and Unfold. It's such a gorgeous, special album that can help me through any hard time
The biggest problem of 2021 in music that even a Top 50 wouldn't barely scratch the surface on the amount of quality stuff this year It's amazing how the 2020s were off with a fantastic start
totally agreed. i've been trying to compile/write a list of my top 50 of the year and i've had to make so many cuts i feel like i'd be able to go for another 25 if it werent for it being even more work .-. lmao

The fact that magdelena bay and left at london are both fairly new artists is baffling to me. Both their albums this year are truly amazing and its so surreal to see new(ish) artists put out such incredible work so early in their careers
Blue Weekend by Wolf Alice is the most terribly underrated album of 2021. People are really sleeping on this masterpiece. Literally, ANY MUSIC on this album sounds like an event on its own, kinda like each one is a new and greater experience than the one you've heard before. Wolf Alice really knows what they are doing. Delicious Things easily record of the year.

6:03 I've only ever heard ONE song by porter robinson and i didn't even remember his name but the moment i heard those notes and saw a snippet of the mv i thought "Oh this is the guy that made shelter, isn't it?" Which, I guess speaks to his talent of making himself stand out as an artist. Because mucisian and shelter aren't super similar songs, but his signature style shines through.
Personally, I liked this year in music. It was easy for me to find things I could fall in love with. 10. Blue Banisters - Lana del Rey 9. Sour - Olivia Rodrigo 8. @@tedros6917 ikr? That album was at one point my aoty, and although I just couldn't justify putting it super high because of a few stinkers like All my favorite songs and especially screens, it just has so much heart, man.

As someone who basically just listened to Future Nostalgia and Blonde all year round (and for the first time), I think the only 2021 albums that pulled me in were Lingua Ignota's "Sinner Get Ready", Little Simz, and recently Yebba's "Dawn". "All I ever wanted was you" is playing on a loop in my head as I type this.

The fact that he tried to say “y’all won’t understand it, but this one is for the children.” is hilarious to me
So glad Nurture made this list. I love that album so much - it it an audio representation of all my fears and struggles as a human at this point in my life. And the PRODUCTION. Goodness gracious it is immaculate.
Between being utterly gobsmacked by the production of #3 (my favorite rap album since To Pimp a Butterfly) and profusely weeping while listening to the title track of #1, I feel an intense need to express my gratitude. You've introduced me to some unforgettable music through your always insightful and articulate phrasing, so seriously, thank you.

Seventeen going under by Sam Fender! The album is introspective, real and tells a coming of age story with infectious guitar and booming saxophone. It's an album everyone will get something out of but specifically young men who don't have role models who they can relate to and are so open and honest about their vulnerabilities, mental health and struggles.

I saw Yola debut Stand for Myself in its entirety at Newport's Blues Cafe (that point when we thought maybe things were getting better with vaccinations) and she blew me away!
Yola is my absolute favorite! If at all possible, you have to see her in concert- her voice is one of my favorites that I've heard live. Even up in the altitude, she absolutely killed it and was a powerhouse. I absolutely agree about her's being the best album of the year
My personal top five: 5. Kanye - Donda 4. Little Simz - SIMBI 3. Silk Sonic - Evening With Silk Sonic 2. Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine - A Beginners Mind 1. The Other Favorites - Unamericana
I literally had no goddamn idea the yola was or would be number one or even on the list, it’s absolutely been my most relayed album of the year because of how universal the album is in its enjoyability and I can just play it front to back at work all the time. I was kind of underwhelmed by her first collection of songs I heard but this one absolutely blew me away, and I can’t wait to see her live this year
my top ten for the year is looking as follows: 1. "cavalcade" by black midi 2. "for the first time" by bcnr 3. "promises" by floating points, pharoah sanders, london symphony orchestra 4. The fact that I just heard someone say the phrase, "Anarcho Communist Sock Puppet." I like that. Also everyone should see FD Signifier's video about Inside.
Miss Jazmine Sullivan did her THANG on Heaux Tales oh my god her voice is incredible, and now, Grammy winning !! Saw her live in Portland and she is one of the best vocalists alive.
First time watching your videos and I’m sure people say this all the time put your editing and writing is amazing. Super well done video. Idk every project on this list but i still enjoyed your intros and breakdowns of every album on this list. Definitely a great year for music. Thanks for putting this together

Hey, creator of album #8 here, just wanna say a few words of gratitude real quick (she says as she writes 4 paragraphs)
so, when i started making tiapfyh i thought it was just gonna be pills & good advice as a single. then when i got offered an artist in residency spot in shoreline wa on richmond beach, i jumped at the chance & finished the rest of the album in spring, as vaccines were first starting to roll out to the general american public. so i began the record knowing it was gonna be a record in march of this year...
You're so welcome! Thank YOU for making the record in the first place!!

The Bo Burnham cutaway was immaculate. Laughed out loud
It’s so crazy to think I saw Little Simz just before her first album and blow up! When Gorillaz was on the Humanz tour, she was one of the openers and she’s amazing on stage!
I remember scoffing way back when at a reviewer who said garage palace was the worst song on humanz because simz "sounded too British"
@@rileyscherer129 Garage palace was a single, it wasn't on humanz
@@shimmipenguin1764 it was on the super deluxe bud. Check again
@@rileyscherer129 maybe you should clarify that instead of saying "on humanz", especially since the super deluxe isn't on Spotify, only the deluxe
It's such a gorgeous, special album that can help me through any hard time
The biggest problem of 2021 in music that even a Top 50 wouldn't barely scratch the surface on the amount of quality stuff this year
It's amazing how the 2020s were off with a fantastic start
I know, there were so many awesome albums this year!
Period, 2020 were the peak of music
totally agreed. i've been trying to compile/write a list of my top 50 of the year and i've had to make so many cuts i feel like i'd be able to go for another 25 if it werent for it being even more work .-. lmao
Fucked up times make for great art

Tyron was my intro to British rap and has become one of my favorite albums of all time. I tried is my favorite song of the year
Mic, you can’t just put crazy frogs crazy songs 10 times as a list, nevertheless I wholeheartedly agree
Oh god, please don't give Micthesnare the Melon comment section treatment

@@bigttheory its less funny with melon, but it makes sense for Mic cause he constantly makes that joke himself
Delicious Things easily record of the year.
i dont know.. i only enjoyed the 2 first songs and the last one, the others i felt like they were a copy from other rock songs
I especially enjoyed the genre switches pulled off by the band. Definitely in my top 10 of this year

6:03 I've only ever heard ONE song by porter robinson and i didn't even remember his name but the moment i heard those notes and saw a snippet of the mv i thought "Oh this is the guy that made shelter, isn't it?"
Which, I guess speaks to his talent of making himself stand out as an artist. Because mucisian and shelter aren't super similar songs, but his signature style shines through.

Bro you just encapsulated it perfectly
Why didn’t that album get a Grammy tho????

Yola's album is amazing. Hopefully she gets a grammy. Sadly little simpz wasn't even nominated. I loved Jubilee. I'd have loved to see it here.
I saw Yola debut Stand for Myself in its entirety at Newport's Blues Cafe (that point when we thought maybe things were getting better with vaccinations) and she blew me away!
This is absolutely, positively the ONLY best of list that matters this year
Yola is my absolute favorite! If at all possible, you have to see her in concert- her voice is one of my favorites that I've heard live. Even up in the altitude, she absolutely killed it and was a powerhouse. I absolutely agree about her's being the best album of the year

4. Little Simz - SIMBI
3. Silk Sonic - Evening With Silk Sonic
2. Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine - A Beginners Mind
