You were close with the word trousseau! It is a French term adopted by the English, so it is pronounced "tross-oh" ("eau" as in "beau"). My mum used to quilt a lot, but for the last 25 years or so she has only made quilts for weddings, as she has other crafting interests now. When I got married I didn't ask directly but I was really hoping that she would make us a quilt for our wedding, so I was thrilled that she did. I had one of her quilts on my bed as a child (I later found out that it was actually the first she ever made), but it was threadbare and full of holes by the time I was an adult. I kept it safe, even though it could no longer be used. On the underside she had embroidered "To *****, quilted with your mother's love, June 1992". A few years ago I took some fragments, washed and repaired them, then stitched the words "And framed with your daughter's love, June 2022". I had that piece with a few others professionally framed so that she could hang it on the wall of the house my dad had just finished building and gave it to her for her birthday, which also marked 30 years since the quilt's completion. To this day, it is still the most expensive gift I have ever given (professional framing is $$$!).
That is so sweet! I've made a few quilts over the years, I think I still have my very first one kicking around somewhere, and I only hope that if ever someone other than me ends up with them they will love them just as much!
It looks so cozy! It's cool to see all the patches of different projects together in one blanket. I've only ever made two quilts, trying out the skill on baby blankets when some of my nieces were babies, but one of my sisters quilted avidly for years. My mom has dabbled in it occasionally and is thinking about picking it back up.
Very cool ! I like using the homemade blanket as the backing ! Plus, it lets them decide which "side" they want showing ! I've been tempted to make a "blue jean" quilt ! I have saved many pairs - both blue and black, over the years, and I think they would make a cool quilt ! I think I saw someone here on UA-cam who had a tutorial !? I'm a total beginner, so it's a bit of a BIG project !
Oh a jean quilt would be awesome. I have several jeans I've saved that I've been wanting to try turning into corsets. I reckon that's going to be a project for next year lol
The quilt looks amazing!!! I've helped my grandma make quilts for all of my cousins when they got married, except we hand quilt.
I actually have a quilt that I started when I was 15 that's completely hand sewn. I actually just got it out to try and finish it off!

What a lovely gift.

It's something Im hoping to one day get better at. Especially as I don't want to waste my scrap fabric if I can help it

Awesome idea re the blanket. Looks great!
Thankyou :)
Hi Annabelle, that is a great make. I have never heard of a wedding blanket but it looks so colourful and comfy ☺.
Honestly might need to make one for myself. It was so snuggly!
