    After doing a lot of research and watching a lot of youtube videos on fuel efficient cars I finally decided to buy the Chevy Cruze Diesel. I have only had it a few months, but I gotta say its a crazy fun car to drive. I live in metro Boston but drive to Maine to my parents house quite often which is about 500 miles round trip. I have been doing some fuel economy tests using the cruise control and even in the cool weather I have been averaging over 47mpg driving at about 73-75 mph! Driving to and from work I average about 38mpg doing about 30/70 city/hwy which is great for me because lets just say I tend to drive above the speed limit..alot. You can't beat the warranty either and the free service for the first 2yr/24000 miles. I did opt for an additional extended warranty for $1400 added into my car payments so now the car is covered bumper to bumper for 10yrs/120,000 miles.. Oh ya and I don't know why anyone would pay MSRP.. I got mine for $22,800.. great deal!

    I test drove a Cruze and with the type of driving I do, I will stick with VW. I didn't feel the "the fun to drive" factor

    3:18 The BRM TDI's problem as well. Way too sensitive at very light torque demands. I hope they fixed that with the 2009+.

    I live in Canada and our fuel is just fine for being a good lubricator. Our 2000, 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2012 Jettas are all on original fuel pumps. I will always drive a VW because no models of theirs have let me down. When you buy a VW, theres a special feeling that no other car can give you. Its like an Alfa having a soul, its there and very real, but you can't really explain it. VW also has the most cars on the road above 100,000 miles compared to any automaker.

    I want to make a diesel into a delivery vehicle, How do you feel about the transmissions in each car for reliability?Automatics scare me! But you really know what you are talking about,and very imformative compared to anybody else!

      The transmission in that particular model (2014-2015) is made by Aisin, so I would expect it to be a pretty good transmission. Usually if it's made by Aisin or Alisson, you're good to go. The only thing is that Alisson doesn't make many transmissions for small vehicles. They're mostly into heavy trucks

    Sorry, meant wagon with TD motor, manual transmission and AWD...

  • @samsonian
    @samsonian 8 років тому +1

    The same things are needed every year but never offered...if vw or Chevy offered a wagon with manual transmission AND AWD without having to buy an overpriced Touareg or Q7 they would rule the UT/CO/WA market. Too bad they won't listen to the message boards.

    i would imagine the development is borrowed from opel/vauxhall diesels in europe... altho they seem to be mostly worse than vw counterparts so im quite curious what's so magically great about this engine....

    Cruze uses urea and doesn't have a spare tire. No thanks, I'm sticking with my jetta. Put 50k on it in 2 years and still running great.

      Yeah, how’d that work out for you during dieselgate? Now, you only see very old or urea injected TDi on the road. VW unilaterally screwed the small car diesel industry.

    It may return better mpg but not by much. But the off-the-line lag is unbearable and is dangerous. Also some people don't want leather or sunroof. The Jetta is cheaper at a base cost too. Jetta wins here because it will be more reliable and is more refined, roomy, faster, and much more quiet.

    horrible slushbox gearbox and no dual-clutch or suquential? i'll pass, not worth it, don't care about the rest.
    But i'd be interested in seeing detailed tech about the engine(fuel pressures, type and number of pumps, type of inyectors, what turbo and how is it driven, distribution system, how is EGR controlled, etc) and extras like what type of power steering, what kind of software you have for the PC(hardly anything is as awesome as VCDS)

    I plan on taking the engine out of a Chevy cruze diesel and putting it in a suzuki samurai. So much power and fuel economy.

    You can drive a cruise with no option for a manual transmission if you want your car to look like everyone elses in the herd.

    " The back seat is smaller?.....You need to clarify that because the back seat is much larger than the Cruze!..not even in the same league

    probably auto because that panders to a much larger market, this car was designed for an american release to make diesel cars mainstream again. Proof in that they've outsold the Passat 3 to 1 in the same month.

      I've had one for 6K miles now and love the Cruze so far. I have been averaging 41-43 MPG depending on what i did that week. I just had it tuned this week as well and it has a TON more power now, lol.

    Volkswagens may not be reliable in the US. And the hardware is perfectly fine. The engines are built to last(thats why the non-lemons will last over 500,000 miles) and so are the bodies. What fails VW? Chinese built and engineered electrical systems. And as for the fuel pumps, its Americas fuel that does it because European fuel is a very good lubricant and the fuel pump depends on the lubrication to work properly. Americas fuel isnt a good lubricator so the pumps fail more often.

    that is an opel engine in a korean car, opel diesel engines are horribible. 1998-2003 generation needs a injector pump every 60k miles

      Well it's a good thing they include a five-year hundred thousand mile warranty, isn't it?

  • @electrictroy2010
    @electrictroy2010 10 років тому

    Volkswagens are NOT reliable..... no in the U.S. anyway. Constant problems with bad camshafts or turbos, and now the latest generation has bad fuel [um[s that literally blow (tossing shrapnel into the engine & incurring $8000 repair)
    .
    Maybe it's time to try one of these European-designed Chevy diesels
    .

    I'll stay VW thanks, I don't drive American junk.

    • @bmw803
      @bmw803 5 років тому

      Don't worry, VW also made junk as well. The Cruze is a Korean design with a European engine. The new Diesel engine in the 2017 is made by VM Motori, which only specializes in Diesel engines. They're actually not so bad. Mine has 31K miles on it already and no problems. The Cruze is not an American car at all.

      I owe a VW and so as my couple of friends, I can not belive how junk they are made. 55k water pump, thermostat, blower out? Come on are u serious? DSG known for their endless issues ones they start....... I promised my self never again VW nor Audi. After owning A4 and Jetta TDI

      Junk? Who’s crying now? Dieselgate cost VW Group AG almost $40 billion with a BIG B. Now they’re being forced to make amends by producing electric cars like ID3 and 4. VW screwed themselves.
