I'd love to see Arcade shooters so House of The Dead vs Time Crisis or Virtua Cop. Another fun one would be worst games so like a best of the worst style
Well... A flashing screen might be more fun than snail maze... My Master System, though, has Hang-On built in... A flashing screen can't compete at all
This format seems fine as it is, in regards to the rules. Each comparison seemed very fair and valid, and brought some cool discussion about what was available at the time. I'd love to see more.
How is that a bad port? The colour scheme is questionable, and it lacks music, sure, but it plays so much more smoothly than the Master System port, and it's about as fast as the Arcade version. And if you play it on an emulator, you can change the ugly colour palettes to something more eye-friendly.
Yeah it's fast but you can't see your character or the projectiles because they inherit the color of the background. Might as well be in black and white, would make it a lot easier.
Speccy just had the classic British Micro issue of games being so cheap in that country that even official Atari games were just some bedroom coder who was paid 15 quid for a feverish weekend of coding. Oh, and the color clash. And the scrolling. I'm sorry for anyone who owned a Speccy, because the games were so bad, stuff like James Pond 2+3 were "good" by comparison.
Thunder Force 4 had an awesome soundtrack as well, particularly some of the boss themes. The intro music together with the huuuge animated ship that appeared absolutely blew me away the first time I booted it up in my Megadrive.
Imagine how it will be with 29" RGB broadcast monitor and a pair of 150W (real, not PMPO BS) 3 way speakers (not at full volume of course). That was the first time i played that game, it still feels like it was yesterday, and it was almost 25 years ago. Funny part - this game has one of the best soundtracks on the system but speech samples are so distorted, that you can't understand anything. Road, rude? No! it's "blade"...
I agree! I had the same idea after watching the episode. Things like Resident Evil vs Resident Evil 4 or 6 (or 7 if you want to feel better). Ninja Gaiden on NES vs PS2 Ninja Gaiden... Final Fantasy vs Final Fantasy VII.
Oh, and this format for an episode is really good; I like it a lot more than the random battles you guys used to do. Nothing against those episodes, I just like that these comparisons are well thought out and not random.
Graphic you got to endure more a challenging camera in Shinobi ps2 than in Ninja Gaiden XB. both are cool, but Ninja Gaiden calls Shinobi ps2 a "LESSER NINJA"
Maybe Super Castlevania IV (SNES) VS Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis)? Both games are amazing.... Or Symphony of the Night vs Dawn of Sorrow? Zelda 1 VS Golden Axe Warrior
I love all the detail you go into about sound and audio. I never would have guessed these old systems had such varying and high tech sound options at times.
This was a really cool change to the Random battle formula. I agree with a lot of the victors here. I got a few battles in mind: Zombie Revenge VS. Nightslashers, Virtua Cop VS. Time Crisis, Mario Golf (GC) VS. Neo Turf Masters or Legendary Axe VS. Rastan. Solid episode! \,,/
How about Resident Evil vs Silent Hill? Or Uncharted vs Tomb Raider? Perhaps you could do one episode on a series as a whole, like Kingdom Hearts vs Final Fantasy.
Resident Evil vs Silent Hill would be good. I really like Silent Hill but haven't been too far in the original Resident Evil. A damn good excuse to play it if I ever saw one.
Game Sack, This was a really great episode! I like the idea of your battle episodes and it's nice to hear you're open for ideas. The idea came up when you put Shinobi against Ninja Gaiden. I felt the same way about Ninja Gaiden until I played Shinobi III and Shadow Dancer on the Genesis. I do like your approach to what makes a game a better choice (I.E. Space Harrier because of content, experiences/gameplay, etc. over the NES having smoother transitions). I hope to see more of these episodes, there are plenty of great comparisons/battles to be made. Especially, the 8, 16, 32 and 64-bit days. The rap in the middle of the episode was also phenomenal. You made me laugh my ass off at the end with the console battle! Cheers!
Let's not forget Taito's Front Line either. To which both of those owe a large amount of gratitude to! I used to play the hell out of that one on the Colecovision. It was great with the Super Action Controller.
I think Franchise vs Franchise could do well in this type of video! Keep up the great work guys! You are definitely an inspiration for me and my channel!
Love this concept! While I don't have any battles to suggest, I do think it's only fair that they be from approximately the same generation since technology and what designers were generally looking to do can change so much over the next 5-10 years. Can't wait to see your next video (on any topic, not just a follow-up to this)!
Have a small potential list. (NES)1942 vs (NES)Sky Shark (SNES)Brain Lord vs (Gen)Light Crusader (Arcade)Tekken vs (Arcade)Virtua Fighter (or do PS vs Saturn) (NES)Dragon Quest vs (SMS)Phantasy Star (Gen)Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine vs (SNES)Kirby's Avalanche (PS)Spyro the Dragon vs (N64)Banjo Kazooie (SNES)LoZ Link to the Past vs (Gen)Soleil (or Crusader of Centy depending on region).. yeah I know who will win but the comparison will be fun Marvel vs Capcom.. oh wait that's one game...
Ah, Rad Racer! Actually, my nostalgia is in the game's sequel, Rad Racer II, which has a number of improvements. For one, it adds a Rocket Start ability where, if you hold ⬇+A until your power meter is full, then release ⬇, you'll instantly take off at 255 KPH! Also, your dashboard now had a GPS that displayed when a turn was upcoming rather than using road signs, making it easier to prepare to turn. Lastly, crashes where a lot less dramatic. Instead of your car getting tossed around, you'd simply spin out. Also, instead of being respotted, you'd regain control of your car the spot you stopped on, costing you slightly less time, although it made it possible to crash into something else that happened to be in front of you. There were a few things taken out of of Rad Racer II, however. You could no longer change songs in the middle of a race. Also, the game only gave 2 music options: Gum Ball Crash and Coast To Coast. "Sing Yourself" is no music. (Unlike Rad Racer I, engine sounds and music can't play at the same time, but the music sounds better as a result.) Now, I discovered a while back that there actually _is_ a third music option, Still Alive, but it can't be accessed without a cheat device. I uploaded the track here along with the RAM address to change if you want to listen: tcrf.net/Rad_Racer_II As for a quick thought on Space Harrier and it's "Background Sprite" technique, I wonder why the Famicom version didn't use this trick? Sure, it looked smoother by having sprites, but they were less detailed and more sparse. Actually, several Master System used this trick to make larger animations than what could've been done with sprites, although it made things chopier and chunkier, as you mentioned. The Nes could do this in theory, but I can't think of any game that did. Lastly, Gradius III: From Legend to Myth. I played the arcade version, and it didn't have any slowdown that I recall. It also a 3D stage set from behind that the SNES version didn't have since even the mighty *Mode 7* wasn't powerful enough to handle the multiple scaling sprites it had. Anyway, the arcade version is much better. In fact, if the comparison was between the arcade versions of Gradius III and Thunder Force AC, it might've been tougher to call. As for the SNES version "Thunder Spirits", I don't know about that...
It would be so cool if we had a 16 or 32 but Rad Racer. I remember counting the days down in school, waiting for that game to come out. I was so excited that I could drive the Ferrari and in 3D even!! The 3D stunk but the game ruled and I played that game every day after school for weeks after getting it. Ahh the memories.
hey guys, just wondering, you did the neogeos, but I have noticed NOBODY has done a HYPERGEO64 and I mean NOBODY!!!! I don't know much about this failed machine, could you review even if emulated? many thanks
Amazing Space Harrier rap. I love the SMS Space Harrier and it was the first game I beat as well. I won't count Miracle Warriors, Zillion or Wonderboy, because that lessens the impact. I love the scrolling story during demo mode that introduces a lot of the characters in small form as the march into formation. Shinobu should get an extra point for Marilyn posters.
Love this concept! Especially glad to see Streets of Rage vs. Final Fight (and the correct game won). Here are a few of my ideas: Double Dragon (SMS) vs. River City Rampage (NES) Beyond Oasis (Gen) vs. Secret of Mana (SNES) Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Gen) vs. Kirby's Avalance (SNES) GoldenEye (N64) vs. Halo (Xbox) Jet Moto (PSone) vs. Wave Race 64 (N64) Tomb Raider (PSone) vs. Super Mario 64 (N64) Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) vs. Madden '93 (Gen) Project Gotham Racing (Xbox) vs. Gran Turismo 3 (PS2) Tekken 2 (PSone) vs. VF2 (Sat) Crash Team Racing (PSone) vs. Mario Kart 64 (N64)
I just watched an early sack video, where joe stated"im about to talk about space harrier, wich I love.ive got a lot to say about it,considering I'll probably never talk about it again" I feel it's gone on to be the most talked about game on game sack, lol. joe, dont ever change my friend.
I love these guys.... they made me pay so much more attention to soundtracks in games and I am very grateful for it.
Are you dead yet?
Rad Racer seems to run at 60fps where as Outrun looked to be half that, hence why it was probably harder to control!
This! this is why i Love gamesack. Classic episode guys.
I'd love to see Arcade shooters so House of The Dead vs Time Crisis or Virtua Cop.
Another fun one would be worst games so like a best of the worst style
Retro Zone house of the dead vs time crisis is a good fuckin one yes!!!
House Of The Dead wins easily
It all about CarnEvil!!!
Call me in for that Lighgun Showdown!
Thank you guys! You have some of the best system and game reviews on the net!
Are you dead?
I like the idea of truly random matchups, like draw the names out of a hat or something.
If you wanna see a bad port of Space Harrier check out the ZX Spectrum version. In fact the ZX Spectrum could be an entire episode about awful ports.
How is that a bad port? The colour scheme is questionable, and it lacks music, sure, but it plays so much more smoothly than the Master System port, and it's about as fast as the Arcade version. And if you play it on an emulator, you can change the ugly colour palettes to something more eye-friendly.
+CarozQH And even the palette is not that bad. Gives it unique "speccy" feel. I'd choose speccy over master system any day.
Yeah it's fast but you can't see your character or the projectiles because they inherit the color of the background. Might as well be in black and white, would make it a lot easier.
You wanna see a bad port for that system? Look up for the ZX Spectrum port of Street Fighter II. Worst port I've ever seen in my life.
Love you're new episode. Keep up with the great new ideas. Wish new episodes came out every week. Heck every day!!
F-Zero series vs WipEout series!
This is a great idea, please do another 6,000 episodes. Thanks!
I had to stop the video and go listen to Thunder Force's soundtrack again sooooo goood!
My favorite Track from TFIII is either Twin Vulcan or G Lobster!
Thunder Force is known for having some of the THE best music in gaming.
John you should make a video about the best RPGs for every system. Wait... you did? And it's out today? Awesome!
Funny part - this game has one of the best soundtracks on the system but speech samples are so distorted, that you can't understand anything. Road, rude? No! it's "blade"...
I always appreciate a new Game Sack episode, no matter how long it takes to come out. Great job, guys!
I want to see a Generations Battle.
Mario 1 vs Mario World
Sonic 1 vs Sonic Advance
GTA III vs GTA IV
Doom for the Jaguar vs Doom 2016
Not a bad idea!
Doom on i486 vs Doom on gtx 1080
Funny enough is i have a i486 still (but with Doom II on it)
Shame i don't own a camera to film it working
I agree! I had the same idea after watching the episode. Things like Resident Evil vs Resident Evil 4 or 6 (or 7 if you want to feel better). Ninja Gaiden on NES vs PS2 Ninja Gaiden... Final Fantasy vs Final Fantasy VII.
+1300l
So do *I*!
Great video. I'd definitely like to see more of these.
hahaha i actually stopped playing the streets of rage soundtrack record to play this video :) thanks for filling in the gaps
That's what she said
Great formula - More of this series!
Thanks for another awesome episode guys, you're better than TV.
This is definitely my favorite channel on UA-cam. Good job, Dave and Joe; you guys are awesome.
Oh, and this format for an episode is really good; I like it a lot more than the random battles you guys used to do. Nothing against those episodes, I just like that these comparisons are well thought out and not random.
I loved this episode! I hope there are more of this kind of episode.
One more to throw out there....
Mario Kart 8 vs. Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed
Great video. Looking forward to more of these in the future.
I love it guys. Thank you.
Loved the video! Keep the formula the same. Keep the like games against each other, or maybe even tournament style.
Just when I'm about to sleep...
You should know better by now, every other Sun morning... LOL!
Just soothe yourself to sleep with the sweet sounds of Game Sazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
If you play Yakuza Zero, your character can go to Sega Hi-Tech Land and play both Space Harrier and Out Run.
Another great episode guys. Thanks!
I have to agree with Rad Racer over Master system Outrun. And i LOVE outrun. Have an Outrun arcade cab i'm fixing up now :)
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) vs. Shinobi (PS2)
Graphic you got to endure more a challenging camera in Shinobi ps2 than in Ninja Gaiden XB. both are cool, but Ninja Gaiden calls Shinobi ps2 a "LESSER NINJA"
+Graphic yeah that would make for an interesting sequel.
Graphic I have both of fhem... and Ninja Gaiden is way better than Shinobi...
nilton abobeleira I have both of them too, shinobi is the better game.
GrimGlenn At what level? Better grafics? Better gameplay? Story? Be serious...
Great video guys, hope to see more like this!
I never would have guessed these old systems had such varying and high tech sound options at times.
good fun for sunday morning
I think your format is fine as it is. Keep up the good work.
Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis) VS Super Castlevania IV or Castlevania: Dracula X (Both on SNES)
Glad to see Rad Racer gets the love it deserves. One of my favourites on the NES. Go, go, go, Rad Racer! :D
Omg guys that episode was awesome, thank you Game Sack
Space Harrier medley was amazing :)
This is like an entire season of the channel "Console Wars" squeezed into one episode!
Oh great !! A new game sack episode at 4:30 AM !!
Great concept, well executed. Thanks, guys, keep up the good work!
Mighty Final Fight (NES) vs. Streets of Rage (Master Sastem) next time?
I really like the idea of this episode. As always the quality of the video and the production values are great.
Wii Sports vs Kinect Sports would be hard to say... if you include Wii Sports Resort it's without a doubt Nintendo to take the victory
Great video. I'm looking forward to future episodes in this series. =)
sat down to eat dinner better check for new eps to my surprise uploaded 35 secs ago, winning
Another great episode guys!
I can't disagree with any of these winners.
I do need to know your opinion: Capcom's Commando or SNK's Ikari Warriors?
That would be a good battle!
Game Sack,
This was a really great episode! I used to play the hell out of that one on the Colecovision.
It was great with the Super Action Controller.
videogameobsession Can't say I'm familiar with it. I'm woefully ignorant of the pre-NES console era
You guys are just pure awesome. Keep it up!
Haven't watched you guys in a while. Glad to see you're still making good content!
Love the show, guys! Keep it up! I always get excited to see a new Game Sack episode!
Virtua Cop vs Time Crisis?
Virtua Fighter 2 vs Tekken?
Panzer Dragoon Zwei vs Star Fox 64?
Loved it! One of your best videos! Daytona USA vs. Crusin USA, Virtual Cop vs. Time Crisis, Virtual Fighter vs. Tekken,
Great video
I think Franchise vs Franchise could do well in this type of video! Keep up the great work guys! You are definitely an inspiration for me and my channel!
The Legend of Zelda vs. Golden Axe Warrior
I love these new Ideas. Love you guys as well. Good job creating new games.
I like the music from Ninja Gaiden a lot better than Shinobi's PSG or FM soundtrack
Of course - there's a lot more of it too, since Shinobi is missing most of the soundtrack from the arcade original
I don't get why they compare Shinobi on SMS to Ninja Gaiden on NES when Ninja Gaiden was on SMS too. Why not compare those?
Love this concept! While I don't have any battles to suggest, I do think it's only fair that they be from approximately the same generation since technology and what designers were generally looking to do can change so much over the next 5-10 years.
Can't wait to see your next video (on any topic, not just a follow-up to this)!
Joe vs Dave. Which is wittier? ;)
WINNER!! Nintendo's flashing screen
I can't win with that logic. :)
Nintendo.
I don't think wit is the strong point... Great slapstick though, these two put Harold Lloyd to shame!
I say Joe, cause Joe knows MEGA POWER!
This needed a Final Fantasy IV vs Phantasy Star IV section.
Snail vs flashing screen... Lmao!
*Sunday morning, 2 a.m., Game sack time!!! Yeeeaaaaaah*
Space Harrier 2 (Genesis) vs. HyperZone (SNES)!
Você aqui?
I liked this series. Plus it's something only guys and gals who lived and played through it could weigh in on. Another great episode, guys. Thanks.
This is epic!
a great idea! please do more modern games too!
Have a small potential list.
(NES)1942 vs (NES)Sky Shark
(SNES)Brain Lord vs (Gen)Light Crusader
(Arcade)Tekken vs (Arcade)Virtua Fighter (or do PS vs Saturn)
(NES)Dragon Quest vs (SMS)Phantasy Star
(Gen)Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine vs (SNES)Kirby's Avalanche
(PS)Spyro the Dragon vs (N64)Banjo Kazooie
(SNES)LoZ Link to the Past vs (Gen)Soleil (or Crusader of Centy depending on region).. yeah I know who will win but the comparison will be fun
Marvel vs Capcom.. oh wait that's one game...
(SAT)Sonic Fighters Vs (N64) Super Smash Bros.
:P
Smash 64 wins over any other fighting game from the 64 bit age.
Sonic the Fighters was never on Sega Saturn, only in arcades, and on PS2 and GameCube via the Gems Collection, then later ported to PS3 and Xbox 360.
Sky shark is bloody infuriating and no ending. Surprised I didn't suffer a stroke.
Do you mean Fighters Megamix?
You guys have one of the best channels on youtube, gaming or otherwise, keep it up bruh.
FF1 vs Phantasy Star
This was a great ass idea guys right on!!!! Can't wait to see more in this series
Shining Force VS. Fire Emblem
I absolutely love the low quality scratchy voices in Thunder force 3. I believe it adds to the charm!
Everytime game sack uploads I'm literally holding my sack and already watching game sack. Coincidence? No its just that good.
I uploaded the track here along with the RAM address to change if you want to listen: tcrf.net/Rad_Racer_II
As for a quick thought on Space Harrier and it's "Background Sprite" technique, I wonder why the Famicom version didn't use this trick?
KoF '94 vs Super Street Fighter 2
Great stuff, as always.
I'm looking forward to more developer videos, like you did with Sunsoft and Data East. Lots of potential content there.
GEMU BATORU:
ROUND ONE
FIGHT!!
a dose of gamesack before going to work ;) thx guys :)
I really.love their cheesy skits in the other channel two just makes me laugh my ass off..
I have the mark 1 master system and it has hang on, safari hunt and snail maze built in !
Does there exist a shirt with the Vic Viper with 4 options and the phrase "It's good to have options" on it? I hope so, cuz i want one
I would definitely wear that shirt.
YEAH DAVE. YEAH!
HELL YEAH!
..... A reply! K. O - DAVE WINS * 'FLAWLESS VICTORY'
hey guys, just wondering, you did the neogeos, but I have noticed NOBODY has done a HYPERGEO64 and I mean NOBODY!!!! I don't know much about this failed machine, could you review even if emulated? many thanks
Very well done, guys! Your competition/battle idea turns out to be an entertaining concept! Hell, I´d love to see more of this stuff!
You guys keep knocking it out of the park. I do agree though that some more modern games would be great, from PS2 onwards. love the end video 😂
Final Fantasy I vs Phantasy Star I
Phantasy Star all the way!!! :D
No question Phantasy Star 1, but the later sequels, no question Final Fantasy won out.
PS2 wins over FF2 too
hey they did it!
Hey, it's Skate, AKA Eddie.
I always liked it how you got on a dude's shoulders and repeatedly smacked him in the head.
Bonjour les amis de Game Sach!
Excellentes comparaisons, the Truth comes out of the Sack!!!!!!
Bravo et merci pour cette vidéo!
next time you do 16 bit consoles, can you compare the game kid chameleon with anoter game. Cause Kid chameleon was so good. Also nice channel.
Kid Chameleon is good. I just wish it had save points or passwords.
I must say the editing and quality of this vid is amazing 👍👍👍
castlevania vs master of darkness
Fantastic episode - prime Game Sack loveliness. I think it's more fun to make the rules up as you go along...
But the Master System II has a better built in game.
I had Alex Kidd, my friend found the Sonic version.
Not sure if the US had it or not but in the UK/EU the SMS 1 had Super Hang on built in and not that snail thing.
enigma776 My model 1 has regular Hang On (not Super) AND Snail Maze.
enigma776 I've got a french Master System 2... And the built in game it's Alex Kid...
I have Sonic on my Master System 2. I live in Poland, but my console is from Germany if i remember well.
Love this concept! Especially glad to see Streets of Rage vs. Final Fight (and the correct game won). Here are a few of my ideas:
Double Dragon (SMS) vs. River City Rampage (NES)
Beyond Oasis (Gen) vs. Secret of Mana (SNES)
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Gen) vs. Kirby's Avalance (SNES)
GoldenEye (N64) vs. Halo (Xbox)
Jet Moto (PSone) vs. Wave Race 64 (N64)
Tomb Raider (PSone) vs. Super Mario 64 (N64)
Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) vs. Madden '93 (Gen)
Project Gotham Racing (Xbox) vs. Gran Turismo 3 (PS2)
Tekken 2 (PSone) vs. VF2 (Sat)
Crash Team Racing (PSone) vs. Mario Kart 64 (N64)
final fantasy 3/6 vs. Chrono Trigger
I just watched an early sack video, where joe stated"im about to talk about space harrier, wich I love.ive got a lot to say about it,considering I'll probably never talk about it again"
I feel it's gone on to be the most talked about game on game sack, lol.
joe,dont ever change my friend.
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing vs Mario Kart Wii
Hell yeah that's a great one.
Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed vs. Mario Kart 8
Would like to hear what Joe has to Say about the Yakuza games!
