In these times of coronavirus crisis and confusion, I've been looking for a measuring stick of exactly the level of concern and attention I should give, to keeping myself, everyone I encounter, and my loved one’s safe.
I had made a video slideshow of an audio clip going around Facebook explaining 10 tips and practices to keep yourself safe from the virus. I asked for people to substantiate this and research it if they could to let me know what was bunk or not. And then a biologist posted a rebuttal to that, saying some of this is true some of this really isn’t, and they posted a helpful bunch of tips. So I went and removed my slideshow from everywhere I had shared it.
Then I came across this story in the New York Mag Intellegencer, and everything crystallized for what my level of caution should be, while greatly enhancing my understanding of this insidious disease.
I posted this on my FB page once already, and got very few responses. Then yesterday, I posted it in my comments of a post about the presidents awful handling of the virus pandemic response, where everybody was really happy to make comments on that topic, and dutifully pointing out how wrong some people are on the Internet, but only one person of dozens reacted to this article which I had again posted.
If people haven't seen this article, it's well worth the read, I would even say essential, as it was so eye-opening for me. You will totally gain a greater human perspective, on how infectious and deadly, and easy to spread, this contagion really is. Seriously, it doesn't take that long, and I would feel a lot better knowing my friends and family had grasped the gravity that this story imparts. And it's a good story...
