Titanium Jet TURBINE Shotgun Slugs - We test it!

- Today we have another imaginative projectile from Evan Perry. He machined some jet turbine blades into slugs. Made out of titanium, these are pretty light but very strong. These are loaded to obtain a speed of Mach 1.5.
Evan's video making them:

For some reason the comments and ratings were turned off on this video.... I never turned them off. Thank you AssumedPseudonym for letting me know!
UA-cam being UA-cam. Big surprise.
Thanks for your reaction, that´s what makes your channel matchless.
I love the preemptive language SmackDown
Just doing my civic duty. o7
I thought you were preemptively shutting down the arguments about "sabot" and "turbine" haha
Fun fact, those turbine blades are most likely made from single-crystal titanium, meaning the slug likely has a perfect atomic lattice structure with no discontinuities or dislocations throughout.
They are made out of 6/7 Ti made at Dynamet, or Perryman probably. Rolled at 1725°. Not so much from a power form coming from a blast furnace
Solid.
I knew turbine blades (exhaust side of anyone didn't know, not compressor blades) were commonly monocrystalline to eliminate creep but interesting that it's titanium. I've heard of using Inconel and other exotic super alloys
Yea, I've heard these sort of parts are more _"grown"_ than they are "made"... But that could be partially, or fully, incorrect. 🤷♂️
(a turbine mechanic mentioned it a video)
@@DUKE_of_RAMBLE it's true, they cool the molten metal at a single point and grow the entire crystal off of it.
Jeff putting a square slug in a round.... well... round. Thanks Evan, Jeff and OG.
No problem, you knew about it before most people 😊
I like this channel, it's like spending an afternoon with a couple of buds having fun. It's right down to earth and as real as the day is long. 👍🏻👍🏻
And the thing is, it hasn't changed in tone since day 1. Remarkably consistent
Glad you enjoy it!
@@taofledermaus I contributed some slugs once as well!
@@user-kz8tw4vj7z what were they called? I want to watch the video.
Titanium Turban, that's what kept OG safe during Desert Storm!
Titanium turbine projectile objects exploding and tearing up your armour seems pretty terrifying. Great load.
Hehe "great load"
problem they're slugs... lol or is it a problem lol
Turbo wrinkle was Greg's boy band name in 1997. Great video Jeff. Awesome projectile Evan.
thanks William
Thanks for posting this video. Loved the "Chef OG" joke.. Thanks to Evan, the OG and Jeff. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just love all your improvised DIY targets. 😁
- I have been watching your channels since your mercury period.
Glad you like them!
The Ole black widow in the record player.
I love the soft acoustic guitar Top Gun theme in the background
I like the overdriven Air Wolf theme myself.
I hear "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Santa Esmeralda, bro
How is it that I’m just discovering this channel again after almost 10 freaking YEARS, and it’s freaky how you sound exactly the same and how similar this channel still is!!
lol I don't know
Always appreciate the cool cutaways of the shells/loads. Thanks for all the great vids and especially the sarcasm
thanks!!
"Hey check this out,I buffered this slug with coffee grounds!"
"Neat!How do they shoot?"
"They shoot pretty good, and they smell AWESOME!"
Oh,and the "California Ballistics,High and Left"? PERFECT!
Might be illegally highly caffeinated!
Legend has it...
Jeff puts coffee grounds in his shotgun shells...
And brews gun powder in his coffee maker...
@@DUKE_of_RAMBLE I would honestly not be surprised if Gregg did that for real.
Happy to help, Jeff. As if stuff on UA-cam wasn’t getting bad enough without another thing to worry about… ¬.¬
Batman edit was HILARIOUS. Greg is funny as S. I love the humor you guys produce as much as the slow mo content. Thank you.
Thanks for watching, John
thanks John
@@OGsDangerShow I enjoy your channel greatly. I'm a retired LEO with 30 yrs on the job. Got out at 52. Now I just go to metal concerts in Detroit...lol
On the ravioli shot, it looks like the slug punched a square out of the can, that welded to the slug.
chef boyOG! tauflederstripe! officer Greg rocking it today!
I’d love to see a “turducken” slug. My idea is like titanium inside steel inside brass. That’d be neat
OG's super hero alter ego... the White Flash.
White Flash was actually Greg's college metal barbershop quartet
Looks like Tom Noonans Red Dragon character from Manhunter 😂
This is a test comment for your chemically accelerated impact-driven projectile youtube channel of science
It’s so entertaining watching you and Greg. The laughter and jokes are amazing. That head idea is awesome I bet you could sell them like hot cakes lol
thanks
I would like to thank my friend Joseph who donated the compressor blades, each one costs roughly $3000 😨
I'll send a couple back and you can give him one if you want.
@@taofledermaus I already gave him one ☺
This dude knew exactly what he was doing: titanium burns beautifully, hence so many sparks.
Great show.
Now that the comments are turned on...
_"The only difference between screwing around and science, is writing it down."_
-Adam Savage (Mythbusters)
So, OG, I hate to break it to you, but you and Jeff are *legitimately* doing science! (I feel that capturing it on video is almost equal to writing down the findings heh)
Chef BoyOG *might just be* my favorite OG quip _of all time...._ 🤣🤣
Breanna is a walking, talking, Ballistics Computer! If she isn't hitting where she wants to, you *_know_* she'll have it dialed in on the next shot!
Jeff, you watch the show _Archer,_ too?! 😮
Or did you pick up the _"That's how you get ants!"_ line from elsewhere?
And lastly: I'm glad my prediction for a shower of white titanium sparks during the lead plate shot, was correct. But I'm with you, surprised that even the tin cans produced some!
Now I'm wondering if including Ti shavings in a hollow point cavity, with some aluminum tape over it, would also cause a shower of sparks?? 🤔🤔 (and/or Magnesium)
Thank you Jeff and OG and also Evan. Very entertaining ❤
No problem 😊
@@TheRhinestoneHurricane wait, Evan!? Man I'm honored 😀
@@thesnipercat6792 the one and only 🤗
Glad you enjoyed it!
Appreciate these long as you can, folks. This stuff is seriously golden. Thanks as always, y'all!
Anyone else have flashback to a thermos full of the ravioli as a kid? I swear I could smell it when it blew up. A very titillating video!
I'm glad OG still visits Commiefornia from Hideehoe often enough to show up here now and again. Interesting ballistics.
"TurBIN" vs "TurBINE"- there are a great many things invented by the British that were perfected in America, not just the language.
I enjoyed the acoustic Top Gun theme running in the background.
i thought i heard air wolf?
Fantastic slugs from Evan as usual, and of course commentary from my favorite cunninglinigusts Jeff and OG :)
Thanks 😊
Taofledermaus and the OG. Priceless watching, every time. 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
This was awesome, hate the longer shots failed. All in all it was a enjoyable video. Officer Greg did his thing and even called out a few shots, that was cool. Jeff u know u're slugs and how to give them the best chance for success. 10/10 cause I liked it alot.
thank you very much~!
@@taofledermaus ❤️
Pronunciation and ballistics, name a more iconic duo.
Making your own zom heads is kind of genius.
I love how you support your data with facts! I was 20 seconds into your video & I knew I had to subscribe. I shared your channel with my buddies & they also love your content. Very educational and scientific. I love your format
If I ever started a hardcore Metal band. The name would be " Evan FN Perry"!
Nice..
Thank you
Thanks for popping by!!
Great shot with the cut through view showing how the shot was loaded !!!!!
thanks!
Great video. Nice to see you and OG on top form
Turbine, turbin 😂 as long as it goes fast i love it❤
Send in an A-10 strike and see how fast those turbans are
OK so wondering if you shoot a bottle of water with a projectile filled with coffee can you make an espresso out it ?
😂
Another great video guys thanks for sharing!
Our pleasure!
I love how in the intro there is the Spanish guitar playing the old-school Top Gun theme.
Just watched "Maverick" last week for about the 50th time ❤
5:00 was that the "Airwolf" theme in the background ?!
Even with my Mil-Grade Tinnitus, I still hear ok I guess.
Jeff, thats not a turbine blade, that is a compressor blade. There is a difference and they are not the same. Titanium isn't used in the hot section blading, its from the compressor section. Its a compressor blade from a gas turbine engine.
ok
" Its a compressor blade from a gas turbine engine." so, a blade from a turbine. Got it.
@@taofledermauswow a turban turbine compressor vane, sounds like O G s foray into seventys electronic music. Great beat but long winded lyrics.
You beat me to it. Unfortunately it looks like you hit the cricket button in the process. Kids these days 😂.
"That's not a tire! That's a car tire!"
So is it carbine or carbun? I'm so confused.
It is the stuff Han Solo was shipped in.
Thank you gents. Interesting stuff. Well done. Appreciate the demonstration and information.
thanks!
It just makes my day to see you dropped a video for me to enjoy! Thanks!!!!
A meal in a minuet with the chefs touch in it! Fly the friendly skies of Taofledermaus! Thanks Fellers! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
You're a genius OG 😂😂 9:28
watching and rewatching the sparks when it hit the lead plate. very colourful!
Love the squaya slug in the round sailboot, as well as Danny's lead eye sparking from above
The sparks are a suprise to me also, especially with great video Jeff and O.G.
thanks Zman!
Great video, as always! Awesome to see you shoot a TURBINE blade from a COMPRESSOR engine.
What you have there (or what you showed was) is a part of a compressor blade. A turbine blade is much heavier and much more robust to handle the heat. Both part of a turbine engine. And yes I am a certificated A & P mechanic.
“Too blunt to punch through “ That’s OGs head😂😂
Love the sound effects!
Oh man.. You guys made me laugh even though I had a truly sucky day. Bought a car from a dealership today and the check engine light came on after 30 miles. Didn't think anybody was gonna make me laugh today...
You guys are super cool dudes.
Hopefully you can get the car figured out!
good to see Gregg again.
That first shot sure did shut up those pesky birds.
Another good one.
Thanks Jeff. 👌
thanks Kevin
What you guys do is awesome!😮
thanks
The beauty of these DIY projectiles..
Some have been extremely accurate. Though I am betting that one that you haven't loaded yet will be the perfect one for both close quarters and distance.
Always enjoy seeing what's next
Nice work boys! Love your work.
thanks
When I was a toddler I worked for an Italian company as a technical consultant in an electrical infrastructure project. So I proudly showed the data in QPS Fledermaus (true story) and talked about the cable route. As a long time watcher of the Taufledermaus program on television, I pronounced route as (k)raut. To my surprise, I was lectured by a 70+ year old Italian on the pronunciation of the said route. "Why'a do-a you-a say-a route-a!? In-a E-europe-e we-a say-a route-a!" - In his spirit he meant route as in "root". But he was Italian after all, and my Scandinavian humility took it.
One of those silly things people get emotional about.
The effort in making a pronunciation case study sledgehammer statement over and over again as a side joke is commendable.
lol
I'VE BEEN HAVING A SERIES OF BAD DAYS BUT THEN OG IS ON THE VIDEO! I NEEDED A LITTLE WIN!
I hope things get better for you
I was surprised to see comments turned off...Jeff loves the comments. Odd little projectile that works with a rifled shotgun...good to see OG posting them right through the mail box
thanks
Perfect. Love the humor as always
thanks
I was a Turbine Engine Mechanic in the military and we were taught Terb- Eye-N
I'll have to ask my Dad, he was same in Air force, turbine mechanic, even sent me a chunk an engine spit out that was a near miss on him.
Since the word was coined in France and the French pronunciation is tur-bin. I think the more correct pronunciation is that one, but that's just my opinion.
Neat! Good stuff.
Great testing as always
Thank you!
Gotta say… I love these little educational asides!
This is the most entertaining channel I watch! Add to that I usually learn a thing or two while watching.
thank you Chuck!
Keep being yourselves through these fantastic tests!!!!💯
thanks Harold
I liked the "lifelike representation of a human with a superlong neck" in the last sequence. Immediately had me thinking of the Padaung tribe. Too funny. Cool video!
thanks!!
Great show and great slug!!!
Michael Herrell
thanks again!!
7:47 Say shit like this over my grave, and I swear you'll still hear me chuckle lol
I used to hang out with this live steel fighting troop that would go to ren fairs, they use swords made out of basically blunt flat bar steel and one of the dudes had a claymore made out of titanium flat bar and every once in a while if it was a particularly hard blade on blade hit it would make great sparks
Thanks guys always entertaining!
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved the pink mist!
I love this channel. You guys are cool. I especilly enjoy seeing O.G. on the channel.
thanks
You guys turned awkwardly talking over eachother in a staple for these episodes. It brings me back here every time.
It’s like The View. Except with two hot guys and a shotgun.
@@OGsDangerShow if the view was even remotely enjoyable, sure... but we know better. In any case, keep doing what you're doing, gents. we'll be watching.

OG and his Can-o-Worms with Blood Sauce this week. lol...
You know, I have to tip my hat and salute you guys. The right balance of Fun, Safety, and Education.
Thanks guys, I look forward to every episode.
Great content. Keep it up.
It's astounding that that much force comes from that little bit of gunpowder
Titanium is an awesome metal, it is used in lots of applications. I had a chunk of it on my desk, until someone relieved me of it. Great use of turbine blades, good post Jeff and oh 👍
thank you
Loving the acoustic "top gun" theme!
thanks!!
Evan needs to create a slug from a cast of OG's finger! You'd have to use a 10 gauge or borrow Kentucky Ballistics' 4 Bore...
Thank you for finding all those clips with “turbin” lol especially Jay Leno
4:41
Yeah that’s what I thought!
Squirrel got damn quiet real fast!
Fun video as always thx guys
Glad you enjoyed it
A very cool slug ang a wonderful video, Good shooting....
Loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it Saar~!~!
Awesome video fellas‼️🎯🎯🎯💯👌
Appreciate it!!
Titanium is what they use in white colored fireworks to give that big flash.
There was a guy in the 80’s that built 8ft shotgun barrels for deer hunting in the inner city ., they made almost zero noise and could be shot in neighborhoods without anyone being disturbed….
Thanks guys, interesting results
Glad you enjoyed it
Music from a childhood favorite show yet again, it’s funny what’s covered by copyright and what isn’t. It definitely deserved more than one season.
Thanks for the montage of turbine
lol thanks
The sparks from the lead plate and the tin can were crazy! Those would be expensive rounds!!
I loved the turbine pronunciation tangent! XD
