Sidechain mixer channels in parrallel to make your drums sound like they're clipping without clipping the actual drum sample that way the engineer can emulate that sound from stems, which will be difficult if the drum stem is already clipped. This gives the engineer space without you having to create headroom, but either way usually lower your mixer channels a little bit before sending it off.

Broo I just sidechain those two and add a bit of distortion and thats it. I don't really know why someone would mix the 808 that much.

yes let them clip in there individual channels, but make sure its not clipping in the master channel
