I never thought about it until seeing this video, but you’re completely right. Why buy the new Z, when you can EASILY buy an R33 GTR? It makes no sense at $50k for a performance Z (if you’re lucky enough to not pay markups) OR $75k (before markup) for the Nismo Z, which is honestly, the one to get IF it had a manual option. The R32 to R34 GTRs will continue to gain in value while these new vehicles will just stagnate.
Funny enough I was torn between a GTR or Nissan Z. I settled for a Z since no one has it and I want to show the world what it’s got. Eventually I’ll get a skyline.
I love the r33 Gtr, bought one 5 years ago and its so fun in the twisties, has great steering feel, rb26 sounds amazing Oem parts are not hard to find, just expensive, mine has been reliable, more complicated then a Supra but I can work on it myself, gotta watch out for rust on all the Skylines especially the strut towers. The new Z does nothing for me, just another z370 with turbo's.
Great comparison Marcus! I'm with you on the R33. I'd take that over the new Z but I'm not saying I mind the new Z either. That RB26, while temperamental and not as bulletproof as the 2JZ, sounds and surely feels way better than the VR30 does ;) That being said I do feel that all the golden era Skylines look quite dated now. The R34 probably still looks the best, but the curves of the 33 do standout quite a bit.
r33, ttrs mk2/mk3, m2, m135/m140/m240, mk4 supra, mk5 supra... there are a lot of replacements of the new Z throughout time... all under or around the new Z's price (at least in the uk) it all depends on what you want awd or rwd, manual or automatic edit: rx7, 300zx, 350z tt, 370z tt... r35 gtr from the early days... audi r8... that 60k is a lot of money...
You bring valid points but those R33’s are 20 plus yrs old and they will need everything brand new basically to be able to push the limits of the car safely. As the Nissan Z is set up to drive everyday and needs some coolers for it can be pushed hard at the track or street bc of heat soak. I would take the Nissan Z if I’m not a rich guy. If I was rich. I would just buy both. 😂
Exactly what I was thinking. UA-camrs always leave that part out. They make these 90s legends look out to be the best cars to ever own and like the coolest thing ever but in reality especially skylines they are maintenance machines. They're just about 30 years old. Everything on them is falling apart. They'res a lot of rough ones out there cause they were cheap at a time and anyone could have one. A lot of them have been beaten on without remorse. I had a r33 gtst that made 400hp. Was amazingly fast but everything else about it was falling apart. The rev needle was struggling to keep up with the extra power. Stupid things like the odo meter stopped working. Loads of little things. These cars are more roar in performance cause of technology but a brand new modern car heavily out ways it in every way. People only take them over new cars because of their iconic status. Of course they're fun too in their own way. But the time gap makes them too far to compare.
Stop looking at those overpriced importers. Get yourself an honest importer and they will tell you no on wants R33 in Japan, you can get them in the 30's, I know because I have one coming for my wife.
Just got a R33 GTR and I love it. Question, I love your wheels and want to get similar ones for my car, I'm assuming you painted/power coated them as I don't see them online? If so which base color wheel did you get and what color code or name did you get it changed to?
The R33 is my favorite GT-R, but I still pick the Z just because of reliability (and cheaper insurance lol) also because you can’t find a clean/decent R33 for under 70k (well I can’t anyway, all of the 60k ones look beat to shit or have high miles on them)
The VR30 is a better engine than the RB26 which has many known issues when pushed. The VR38 and VR30 are much better engines as you'd expect after 30+ years of engineering. Also not really a fair comparison to compare a single turbo rb26 which is probably pushing 400hp+ to a stock Z. I get it, they both are similar prices, but 1 you get to enjoy as a brand new car with less dodgy previous owners, rust and accident damage. Not to mention dodgy importers and wound back odometers etc.. Also for North Americans having a RHD car in a LHD part of the world is another compromise. I love both Z's and GTRs, the reason i have an RB26 car ( 260rs) is for the family to tag along. But the newer R35 and Z are better cars... Of course classic cars are about nostalgia also which is a powerful draw card.
What if i told you that i bought my latest model almost new condition r33 gtr and shipped it from japan for as little as €18k😅. It was in 2010 and sold it for €15k in 2015. How the times have changed. Im driving a r35 now.
After 2020 almost every drive-thru has attached their car reader to a stick / handle! Great side effect haha. No problem with drive-thrus in RHD cars anymore, at least where I live.
Its a silly comparison though. I mean one car you have to dump 50k at once, the other you do monthly payments on. Plus, unless you need a factory lsd, and leather, the base is the same car at 12k less
The reason that the older cars don't weigh as much as the new ones . Is because the older cars were lucky if they had one airbag as safety equipment . The new car has probably a dozen airbags traction control stability assist all sorts of other little nanny devices to take the driver out of the drive . If you took all of the safety equipment out of a modern car , and set it on a scale . It would probably average close to 1,000lb . 1,000lb of garbage that did not exist on cars prior to the mid-2000s . That's why the R35 weighs as much as a full size pickup .
I agree. I had an integra R from launch and that was truly basic but oh what fun to drive. After 4 years i traded it in for an r33 just like this one in tyrian purple in vspec … but i sold it back in about 2008 and bought an e92 m3

Thats a clean r33 right there. Single turbo rb26's sound the business
It just baffles me how a nearly 30 year old car can look that much better than a current year car from the same company. That is one clean GTR.
Yup.
Nah 33 is the ugly duckling of the GTRs.
😮woooooowwwwww! R33 you beauty! I don't know why people hate this car? It's such a great car so underrated. Thumb's up for r33 owners.🙂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
They dont anymore. And the few that do either have never driven and/or never understood where it fits on the skyline bloodline.
Nobody hates the R33
@@FonikosGazmas
Absolutely right! 🙂👍🏻
@@EmoDKTsuchiya
Yes we don't😅 but some people are out there who do hate r33 bro🤣🤣🤣. Haters gonna hate😅😅👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m saying I think it’s the sexiest one
How is Roads Untraveled not at 1 million subs yet? That's a crime!

Wow. I just saw a yellow ‘23 Z up here in Penticton for like $67k. . Sharp looking car !

R33 GTR are more close to the 100k than 50k nowadays. I have one and I am glad I got mine when prices were not that insane.
i love my r33 gtr!
Man... i miss my R33 gtr, but i wanted my own house so it sadly had to go to another owner...
House > R33 any day
The r33 is the middle child that doesn't get much love, yet its so underrated
Maybe 15-20 years ago
$50,000 for an R33 in the states Yea… for a TMU salvaged title vehicle 😂 😂 😂 😂

R33 GTR = 1540kg / 400Z = 1581kg ... R33 hands down as in chassis and engine, but the thing is since the R33 is old and to source oem parts is a pain.
Nissan Heritage Program makes it easy to source parts for the R32, R33, and R34 GTR.
The R33 is my favorite GT-R, but I still pick the Z just because of reliability (and cheaper insurance lol) also because you can’t find a clean/decent R33 for under 70k (well I can’t anyway, all of the 60k ones look beat to shit or have high miles on them)
Both seem great
Cars rn are so much. Especially trucks to. But ya I would have the r33 which is my favorite out of all the gtrs 😊
That RB sounds exactly my VQ, weird. First time Ive noticed that.
Maybe if a vq is turbo’d and only on camera because in person they don’t sound anything alike.
@@Jrob992 I'm not talking in person, I'm talking form this video. Maybe you should listen to a 350z in a video...

Next time if you can could you bring along a Infiniti Q60 Red Sport.
love you broo❤❤
I love my Nismo R33 GTR!!
Neither one of them is 50k both over
R33 any time

I thought it would be a comparison similar to carWow
twin turbo is the way
For that money, I’d take a 2017 ZL1 1LE
lmfao "Due to overwhelming demand"
Maybe from those criminal Nissan dealers marking these up to hell and back.
Just like a new Playstation wait till the price markups go away 😂 no rush ill get a use one with 30K miles on it lol.
Never had much interest in the new z car but always been mad about the gtr
Might?
this is a no brainer
Besides the ugly ass seats it is a fun and nice looking ride
R33 gtr over the Z 110% based on the fact I’m a giant 😅

Buy a Macan Turbo or GTS and save the leftover $15k, or spend it on mods or another car.
you will not get a z for 50k
Lol
Do you want a Rustbucket or a 400z from 2020s
😂
Nobody wants that piece of shit Z.
GTR. All day, everyday.
Do you see any rust? I don't.
As long as they get waxed underneath doesn’t that prevent rust?
Dumb ass comment 🤦🏿
Man i hate the Z look so much
It’s too small.
