I would be most grateful if you could make a second video of "Learn with Harry Potter". I would also love to see more transformations from you.:) It was a wonderfully informative and marvellously entertaining video! Thank you so much!
I can't even tell you how MUCH I learnt from watching the Harry Potter films. I once bingewatched them all (not in a day, of course not) but pausing at every word, phrase or idiom that I wasn't 100% sure of what they meant or how to use them myself, and then write it down. To this day when I teach something I learnt from doing that, I remember the exact film (sometimes even the scene) in which I learnt that piece of vocabulary.
Lol I do actually LOVE Hermione!! But I’d have to study your Harry Potter accent vids and not just watch them for fun!! That’s opening up quite a can of worms 😂
I found your channel today, after a hard week of too much work. I also work as a teacher and I believe the best classes are the ones that look like a friendly conversation. I’ve just realized I’ve been watching your videos and I learned so many things in a short period of time because it seemed like a cool mate sharing his knowledge with me. So, thank you! I’ll definitely keep watching your videos. You’re brilliant! I love it.
When I started to learn English by myself, I watched these movies so much to listening to proper English. Except for the "magical words" it's so easy to catch everything they say. Absolutely one of the best sources out there!
To me it sounds as if Harry's accent changes in the later movies. It sounds breathier, less well pronounciated. Or is it just Daniel Radcliffe's way of speaking that comes through more in time which makes it sound so different?
Could also be from, well... getting older generally. In the first two films he's little, and I'd say very young kids tend to speak more polite and well pronounced, and that fades gradually over our teens. Like adult Harry probably would've used a much shorter sentence with the guy at the train station than 11 year old Harry. But I really do suppose that that's really the dialogue writing and now I realize that's not what you meant at all lol. As for Harry/Dan's pronounciation, it's probably still comes from the same reason. He is getting older, he gets more well versed in using slang, which whether he is using terms from it or not, are affecting the way he speaks. In a way making his pronounciation more "lazy" than as a kid. Which is just natural I suppose. He can/could revert back to it even subconsciously when speaking to a person of authority, but that's his normal speech now. Think everyday english vs formal english. Even in british and american english, your normal day to day talk is not quite like formal speech. Formal speech is more like young Harry's request at the train station. Longer sentences and more clearly pronounced, to ensure the person you're speaking to understands you, as well as to sound more polite and respectful. Meanwhile day to day speech is well. We know how that is lol. Least this is my take on it.
Wow Tom, this video is great! I teach English as a foreign language and I'm sure my students would love this video! I'll definitely show it to them during one of my future lessons. They are young teenagers and they love Harry Potter!
Woww i really love this videoo. Hagrid’s accent is the most difficult to catch 😂 i couldn’t understand him if i didn’t put the subtitles on lol. This video is the perfect combination of learning both vocabs and accents altogether at the same time with the movie i love. Thank you for making such a wonderful video. Wishing to see the upcoming videos about the whole harry potter series😘
An amazing video about the British accent in this movie... Please make videos with the whole HP movies to teach British accent and the vocabulary in there. Thanks for your work!
Great suggestion! I’m from Brazil and I’m going to subscribe the learn English with Cambridge right now! Thank you, I love your videos. You’re the firs British Chanel of English I met
thanks, Tom! It's a great video, I like that you focused not just on accents, but on vocabulary either! Could you make a video for the second film? (It's just my favourite part from the whole series). Anyway, thanks a bunch! :)
E L ; How about [vocabulary] "as well" and perhaps, "Thanks Much" 🤔 Just a couple of, "Alternatives" 😏. JaneLee 🕊️ 4/26/19 9:59 AM - in Pennsylvania USA
Aww yeaah🤗 I'm an English teacher too in my country and of course I'm gonna share what I've got from this video, love from Indonesia!😍 *I hope the next video is Sherlock Holmes series🙈
Tom this is amazing!! U totally nailed it! When I was a child I had to decide if I wanted to learn British or American English; I chose British because of Harry Potter haha! Absolutely great! Thanks mate! Greetings from Chile! 🇨🇱
Very interesting, Tom! I would suggest to make a video about differences between Uk and USA HP versions, as a lot of words and sentences might be different.
The most correct and polite pronunciation in english is the brittish london pronunciation!!! La mejor de todo el mundo porque es clara y se entiende todo lo que dicen
Your videos are a treat to watch. I learn so much about the English language in general and specifically about accents. My language is French, I am from Canada and learning so much about those beautiful British accents is really fun. Thank you. I wish you would do a video about Game of thrones' characters' accents :) !!
Thanks a bunch. A lot of learning there. Could you please make another videos for british accent? I want to understand british accent in movies and tv shows cause it's hard to listen to the accent. It will help a lot. I think british accents are cool.
Yes, please do another Harry Potter film! I adore Harry Potter and this video has given me a completely new understanding of this beloved film. Thank you! 👏👏One small thing, though: to be fair, I think sneaked is probably the safer past tense of sneak. Sneaked would technically be the last tense when sneak is used as a regular verb, whereas snuck is an irregular verb useage. Also snuck is far more colloquial and less formal. When in doubt, it's a good bet to use sneaked (even if it sounds funny!😅). And it's especially important to use sneaked in an academic paper. Anyway, wonderful video. Not throwing shade. Just sharing a little info.
Yes finally. I guess I was waiting for this one. ☺ I have mainly learnt English watching those films. It would be great if you could do the whole series. I really like your videos: they are interesting, dynamic, diverse, funny and we learn a lot, no matter our level. Thanks for you job.
I read somewhere that the Potter family (In the books) came from the Potteries, or West Midlands 'West of England' from Pottermore, so Harry might've been naturally drawn to Hagrid because his voice would've been similar to his dads, James Potter. I would love more of these!
Next suggestion Learning English with the Crown, please. So far enjoying your videos, but could you make a video covering how to hold a sensational speech like churchill and the way he uses language?
Outstanding Video Tom! Thanks! Please keep doing it with films, in that way I think is really enjoyable and mucho more easy to keep te vocabulary fresh i our minds, I'd like also to thank for the tip about Cambridge's youtube channel, I personally think that is going to be a complete plataform for english learners. Cheers!
It doesn't really make sense how the Weasleys are from Devon, yet in the films, Ron and Bill have Cockney accents (Bill's being really strong), Ginny and Percy have RP, and Molly, Arthur, Fred and George are Brummies (or West Midlands at least).
Please please please do every movie of the franchise!!!!! I loved it and found lots of new things for myself even though I thought before that there cannot be anything surprising, as all HP movies been watched thousands of times!)))
I am from Hong Kong and I am here to learn British English accent. My friends who have been learning British English in Hong Kong like using American accents to pretend as they are ABCs so I want to be different from them haha!
I am a potterhead and i couldn't not to enjoy the video of course, so yes please: it would be great if could do other videos about HP saga, teacher Tom ! 😍
Thank you for doing another excellent and high-quality video Tom. I really enjoyed it! I look forward to seeing another video for the second Harry Potter movie haha. :)
He actually looks like Mister Potter.
What an excellent video, perfect teacher.
He really does :D
Haha yess im not the only one who think that
I think he looks and sounds like Ray Davies...
Tom really looks like harry when he is old
Did you call me a muggle at the beggining of this video?
I did! How do you feel about that? ; )
I didn’t like that :( *My father will hear about this!*
haha :))
@@EatSleepDreamEnglish that was rather humiliating...untolerable😂😂😂
Ikr I got offended
I’m 10 , doesn’t mean I’m not a witch, I just need another year to get my letter
Another video for second movie! :) I also like the accent of Draco Malfoy and his father, Lucius.
Me too, and their characters in general.
Me too!!
Yes, please!:)
I want too
Oh yes, please 😀
I'll be waiting for Severus Snape's and Albus Dumbledore's accent. :)

Exxpelliarrrrmusss!
Snape is RP also, isn't he?
Dumbledore is Irish
OBVIOUSLY, we need six more of these, if you follow the novels, or seven more of these, if you follow the films. Great stuff Tom. 😊👍👍👍😎
Great idea Grady, looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me

Lol I do actually LOVE Hermione!! But I’d have to study your Harry Potter accent vids and not just watch them for fun!! That’s opening up quite a can of worms 😂
Loved it! But it was too short 🤣🤣 please do a second, and a third ,and a forth... 😁😁😁
He should do a video about every single character. Imagine that! How great!

Please talk about the Scottish accent! (have you seen the Bodyguard?) how to sound Scottish? and HP review is great, too.
I really loved this. I'm Latin and I know a lot of English but for me it's important to improve my English pronunciation and vocabulary. Thanks a lot
Even though I am from the northern U.S. and speak fluent English, I still watch all your videos for the lovely accents. More HP!
I’m from England ( I sound like Ron) idk why I’m watching it
