This was a random recommendation from UA-cam, and I couldn’t stop watching it. Watching someone break down the differences in accents is weirdly fascinating. 👍🏻
I am one of those crazy-obsessed with Sherlock fans who would watch an entire 4 hour video if you explained the accents and slangs of just one single episode haha! I’m serious!
Hello from Japan. It is for the first time comment. His accent is beautiful for me. I want to learn Benedict Cumberbatsch's british accent more. He is one of my favorite actor.
Your videos are great! I'm American, Southern. That "j" sound, like in news, that is dropped in most parts of America is kept in the South. We say that sound. There are many sounds in coastal-Southern (the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida) that are the same as RP. I would love to see you do some videos on the similarities between the Southern American and Engish. That would be fun.
I’ve been watching these videos and thinking the same. Would love to see such a video. We use a lot of the blended words and such too. Also noted many similarities between southern British accents and southern US accents. And I notice when he is saying words in American English, he tends to have a slight southern accent himself. Or at least moreso than not. I’m also from the southern US, btw.
I am a French guy who isn't very good in English but I want to be better. Your video is really good for me, I really want to use the British accent (because I find it so interesting and sexy) and you help me to recognize differences in sounds that my French ear has difficulty perceiving. (And I'm sorry about my mistakes)
It was only this morning when I was discussing with my sister about how versatile Benedict is with his accents and suddenly I see this video in my recommendations! Thanks for the video!
I've always loved learning new accents (which makes sense because my dad's a linguist) and my absolute favorite accent is British so thanks for breaking down Benedict's accept! I listen a lot to Benedict to try and replicate his accent and it really helps to have you break it down!
What a surprise! Thanks, you made me smile just today that I was feeling sad because John Peter Sloan ( maybe the most famous English teacher in Italy ) died at 51 😢 By the way, I loved The Imitation Game 👍
@@nursima9496 same because somewhere in the middle of my learning of English I realised that there is British accent and American accent and I decided to try to learn British pronouncing

It would be really interesting to see a video of an accent of someone who either studied in English medium growing up in a non English speaking country (yours truly) or who learnt English as a second language. To see what nuances and types of inflections s/he would have picked up
Thank you. I who am of British parents and many British extended family was born and raised in Canada. However, being exclusively influenced by the accent they have/had....Enfield Middlesex...have myself an inherent British quality to my own speech. I tend to enunciate most if not all hard consonants. I tend to throw my voice in louder, concise and clearer tones than my fellow Canadians. I rarely slur or blend. I think it must be that my heritage has instilled a sense of pride in the English Language or better still "proper Kings English". And I maintain a sense of pride in that. I am no scholar by far, but I revel in the use of good grammer and having and building a good vocabulary. I am proud to be Canadian, but prouder to be of good British decent. I am a fan of Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch.
I *thought* I knew English well, because it's my first language, ... but I'm American. Turns out I can learn a TON from this channel. Time to learn accents!
British accents always have been hard for me to understand, because I leaned English with someone with American accent (it's my 2nd language), so I'm loving your channel because get to really understand and learn about British accents!! Also, I'd love to watch Tom Hiddlestone
I absolutely adore RP! I first learned about it from actor Patrick Stewart. Tom, I teach English to immigrant adults in the US. I just found your channel and truly enjoy it. I have to say that my cousins, who grew up in the city but just 30 miles from where I grew up, say their words differently from me. For example, I say Monday, Tuesday, etc. They say Mon-dy, Tues-dy, etc. Drives me nuts! Thanks for your postings.
I'm from Indonesia and English is my second language. My accent is pretty messy, got a little bit of British, American, Australian and even Indian sometimes. Watching your videos is so fun and it helps me a lot. You just gained a subscriber ✌🏼

I Love British modern English. American accent is usually strong. Some Americans from the North speak soft English. Funny thing. 48 percent of English is Latin and French Latin...
Triphthongs are constanrly used in a southern US accent. And we do a lot of that dropping the T between words where the next is a consonant thing. And a LOT of blending words.. for example, “at least” is “t’lees,” “yes sir” is “yessa,” “yes ma’am” is “yessum,” “isn’t it” is “in’t,” etc etc etc

Benedict Cumberbatch is an accomplished actor who can perfectly adapt himself to different accents due to his training (London has plenty of drama schools like Sylvia Young etc.) Regarding Harrow, it's a public school (elitist private school just for boys, another famous example would be Eton, they only exist in England, not in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland) that reminds me of the famous and succesful film "Dead poets society" with Robin Williams released in 1989. All the best from Spain and I hope to visit London soon again (My first time there was in December 2005) Carlos M.S.
This is the first time I've really identified a difference between Canadian and American accents. In Canada, we pronounce the "o" and "tume" in costume like a hybrid between the southern English and American accents.
I'm French (so I learned "British" English at school) and I'm glad to notice that my accent hasn't been spoiled by Hollywood and American TV shows. I naturally pronounce most of these words in the British way 🤗
So interesting. I grew up in the southern state of Louisiana in America but have very little southern accent any longer but watching this I find that the way I pronounce a lot of words is more like the English version than the American version such as; costume - the pronunciation of that ‘u’ sound.
