Great video gents. Awesome feature on your channel and so cool to actually prove out the gains over the whole power band. This is way better than having no gains over the power ban and a peak in power. This kind of increase over the ban will be felt at all times and on your every day driving. Way better than just a peak of 15-20 HP. Nice work Build It!!
I plan to install a inertia motorsports SRT Max camshaft, and now you just convinced me I need a 392 manifold. My wife says she currently dislikes you 🤣
I know I'm late to this, but just got a 2010 challenger. Look how much leaner it ran with the 392 intake, granted, that's a good indication of more airflow, but I'd be careful not tuning it, 14.0:1 afr is pretty lean.
Just did mine and what a difference! Agree, well worth it! If you have a shaker beware, you WILL need a 392 shaker bracket. They are different from the 5.7 shaker. From the dealer the bracket is ~$310. Once I am sure I have the right part number I will post it here.
Midrange gains aren't near the same. Tacamo01 and several others including myself are seeing gains of up to 30hp and 60tq in the midrange. Low and midrange gains are what this mod is for where you spend 90% of your time driving. Peak gains are nice but you don't run your car at 6000rpm all day so you hardle ever see them. Why bother to do a mod that will be used les then 10% of the time?
Glad you got this comparison video with Dyno proof, everyone asks me all the time since I did it to my rt Durango and I have only been able to give them a guestimate lol keep it up!
Where do you spend most of the time? Low to mid range or peak rpm? This is an excellent mod that I recommended to R/T LIFE and helped him with. I've had it on my car for almost 2 years now.
so alittle confused i see 6.4 intake needs wiring to open up runner valves but 392 which is also a 6.4 just needs wires extended?? i’m guessing people are using the trucks 6.4?
I put a 6.1 intake on a 5.7 and I lossed power now im thinking that I should go back to my 5.7 intake, considering I just put long tube headers , stage 2 comp cam, and a tune u would think it would be more powerful with the 6.1 intake but its not
This should make sense to anyone who knows a little about basic engine performance. Motors, especially hemis, love to breath, both in and out. Increase the efficiency in their breathing cycles and you will see more power. The reason max HP isn't really increased is because nothing has been done to give the 5.7 more room for the power, just more efficiency and access to air sooner in the RPM range. It is less restricted by the amount of air it gets right off the bat. To get more power all together you'd need to tell it what to do and how to find room for more power (turbo, cam, tune, fuel system, injectors...). You still end up with the stock programming for fuel/air mixture so your max HP doesn't move much, but you access more air quicker, letting that beast suck in beautiful air. Guys who expect huge gains from just an intake crack me up. Same throttle body and intake manifold mean minimal gain because all that excess air now coming in gets underutilized by the stock TB and manifold. Some gains are seen, yes, but its still restricted. I love my 16 ram 5.7. It surprised a challenger and camaro trying to run a 45 roll the other day. Caught and passed both of them in a quad cab 4x4 with 34s. Lol. Confuses the hell outta stock "muscle car" drivers. Did get my ass whooped by a sleeper lightening before though....lol
I should specify i was talking about an air intake, not an intake manifold, when talking about people expecting huge gains from one bolt on. If you get huge gains from an air intake, your old intake filter must have been trashed. Haha
OK so my 14 challenger has a corsa cai kooks longtubes and 3" slp loudmouth catback. Looking to add a ported 392 intake manifold and a ported 87mm throttle body next... Last step will be a cam but before adding the cam will I see gains from the intake an tb coupled with what I already have after I retune... Or only throttle resp once until I get them cam
Hey @RTLife Im going back through some of your old videos, and I'm getting ready to do the intake on my 5.7. Should I go with a 6.4 intake or should I go with one of the Holley intakes for the Edelbrock. And then my next question is. Can you Bolt the 6.4 intake on without a tune or do you absolutely have to tune as soon as you install it
Great info. For a do-it-yourself I would be hesitant to install without being smart enough to activate the active runners. I swapped a 6.1 manifold I ported and polished myself on my 09 5.7L after watching a few UA-cam videos some years ago.

@@RTLife 2nd question. You said he went with the 6.1 manifold and you went with the 6.4? From my understanding in the comments, it was stated that 6.1 manifold would be better for a future procharger?
I went with the 392 6.4 manifold but used the 392 fuel injectors he used the 5.7 fuel injectors. The reason the 6.1 is better for forced air is it isn't plastic like the 5.7 & 6.4 manifolds

So can I do the bolt on with one of these bad boys... he mentioned something about rewiring do we have to that to the 17s and you mentioned about adjusting RPMs.....🤷🏻♂️
Hey Man great video Can anyone help me and explain what "Setting the RPMs" mean? And how it cannot be done? I have a Bulleydog BDX tuner, would I be able to it by myself?
@RT Life - I Have an 18’ Charger RT and researching this upgrade now. What can you tell me regarding retaining the active runners during swap? Is there any mention of a control module or something? Do I need a 6.4 PCM to control the runners? Thank you
What about fuel volume (not pressure)? Do the 345 and 392 have the same fuel systems? Do you swap out injectors also. The reason I'm asking way back in the day before Fuel Injection we had 4bbl , dual quads or 6 packs. When you upgraded intake air flow we re-jetted the carbs and installed high volume fuel pumps along with timing mods to optimized the increase fuel and air flow. I know you can optimized the engine timing with a Diablo but can you increase the amount of fuel or the duration of the nozzle of the injectors?
The air/fuel ratio likely has to be adjusted after this install - he chose to keep the 5.7 injectors, I chose to put the 392. He is going to get this tuned properly so he maximizes the gains & makes sure the engine is running properly with this new setup. This just proves though the manifold is in fact helping performance even without a tune
What other mods does he have prior to the intake swap? How are they setting the RPM limits and shift points without tuning? Does the computer need unlocking in order to do this?
He has a 2014 so the PCM is unlocked already. He has long tubes w/ no cats, mufflers & resonators. I believe he was tuned for the exhaust... he is currently getting tuned now for the intake upgrade so I'm sure he will squeeze more HP/Torque out of this.
@@RTLife hey man bout to subscribe after this. Just got a 2012 charger rt. Does that pcm come unlocked as well? Would you suggest a diablo tune, and do you like the peddle commander. I love the hp but there is a slight lag unless im flooring it. Thanks in advance
I wondered about that. But it's Good to know. I do like the consistency it delivers and with other mods it will be a compliment. Was the wiring really that bad to do? I'm a technician so I'm used to dealing with wires, but is it really that terrible?

Whats the differnace between the 6.4 and the 6.1 i dont know anything about the 6.4 i was planning to swap on 6.1 heads and intake but would 6.1 heads and 6.4 intake be better?
If you plan on doing a procharger type of setup down the road go with the 6.1. If you're planning on staying n/a the 6.4 is the better option. it has long/short runners that will feed your heads air more efficiently.
Ok thank you i guess that's something I'm going to think about about before i get parts. And someone told me that the 09 eagle heads are better then the 6.1 Apache heads is this true ? Thanks for any help
He did - I'm sure the air/fuel ratio needs to be adjusted & tune to maximize the HP gains but the car should run just fine. He saw a nice gain without adjusting the tune for a new intake
What intake manifolds are available for pre-eagle 5.7’s? I have an 04 and I can’t seem to find anything that really works, everything usually starts with 05 and up

Does it matter the year ? Or does the year of the rams has to match your car’s year ?? In order to do the direct swap ?
The ram intake won’t fit under the cars hood. The throttle body points up, then the tube goes up then bents to the passenger side.

Man can I run this mod without turning? or is it a must?
He did - I'm sure the air/fuel ratio needs to be adjusted & tune to maximize the HP gains but the car should run just fine. He saw a nice gain without adjusting the tune for a new intake
Would this trick work for a 2015 ram with a hemi
Nahhh - don't bother. You have active runners already.
What intake manifolds are available for pre-eagle 5.7’s? I have an 04 and I can’t seem to find anything that really works, everything usually starts with 05 and up
Where did he get the manifold from ?
Ebay
@@RTLife will any 392 intake worki got 2014 5.7
Would something like this work on my 5.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
yes it will work
I appreciate the response!
So could I put a 6.1l intake manifold on my 07 Daytona ? To get almost similar results?
Not sure about the results but yes you can
Why pay more for the 6.1 when the 6.4 is cheaper and better
Good stuff man !!!
Thank you
Hi. If i dont plant on boosting my r/t can i still add the 392. Whats the benefits to adding it
Can you put a 392 intake on a stock 5.7?
yes you can put the 392 manifold on a stock 5.7
I'm interested in doing this mod to my '14 Charger R/T AWD. How much did all this cost you? Including parts and labor?
Everything is about $1000. This is a solid upgrade.
@@RTLife Thanks. Now I read something here about air injectors or something like that. Is that an important step in the process to have done?
Just got a new 2019 R/T and trying to plan out some mods. I know you have a stroker kit in your R/T. What are your thoughts if any on the Arrington 410 stroker kit?
I would only consider doing 400+ if you're staying N/A. They will need to bore the cylinders a lot for that displacement
@@RTLife okay so that's why you went to the 397 instead of larger?
Thankkkk you i didnt know it was plug and play
Do you know if the Edelbrock manifold is a similar gain as the 392 manifold? In the sense that it increases across the band and not at peak?
I remember researching it a couple of years back - I have to check the dyno gains again
@@RTLife if you do look again could you let me know I want a new manifold without having to get a new cold air intake
Does he have headers also or just the intake?
he has long tube headers
@@RTLife what was the total rear wheel horsepower with stock cam long tubes and the 392 intake gain ? From stock ?
he isn't tuned for the intake upgrade yet but he was 365/412 ballpark which is pretty solid.
@@RTLife yes definitely and that's without a good tune ... good info ...
Can this be done on a Durango?
Yes it can - check this video out @7:52 - ua-cam.com/video/5XVmG-5a6aI/v-deo.html
I know that guy. Ok didn’t know he had that set up. Nice!! Food for thought
I love you channel i find it very informative an you have alot to do with me buying a2019 charger RT . an i been looking into starting a UA-cam channel of my own an i was wondering if you had any information to help me. Plus i love your car an your image with the RT and the bug you need to make that a emblem I love that I would definitely buy one
Thank you, I really appreciate the support. You should def make a channel, a lot of really awesome people out there. Keep on enjoying that hemi!
Would this be a good mod for a 2019 RAM with the HEMI?
Can I install a hellcat supercharged intake on my 345 hemi
Do you mean the intake or supercharger?
@@RTLife the super charger
YO RT /great videos / question: do you think a JLT cold air intake is a good simple upgrade on a budget ? or is it worth it to spend the money on a hellcat cold air intake / assuming we're keeping the stock 5.7 air intake manifold
The first mod most ppl do is the intake. Honestly an intake by itself isn’t going to be noticeable in any way, really. Get a good cheap one lol
@@justanotherone685 intake + cat delete ? Thoughts ?
