Thank you dear you've really helped me after having some headache
I'm glad this helped you out Valentine, thank you for watching!
Hi, really appreciate your video. Thanks.
How do I remove the border from a textbox? I cant figure out how to do this? It used to be so easy in previous versions of word
Hi Joe,
If you draw a textbox and want to remove the border, go to your Drawing Tools Format Tab. From there, click on Shape Outline. Below the pallet of colors, you'll see an option for No Outline. Click that and it'll remove the border from your text box. I hope this helps you.
I need help on inserting a text box, this happened to me today. I looked for everything couldn't find it.
Please do a lesson on how to edit a pdf document without using the expensive acrobat pro program
Hello, I'm trying to finish an assignment and I have a problem. Don't know if this is possible, I downloaded a pdf. from my classroom and I inserted. Now I want to write above the text without the program suggesting that I want to move around the text. So, for me, its quite impossible for me to write on top of the text. What do I do?
Hi Dariya,
You can convert the PDF back to a Word document and edit it there. Here is a video I made on Converting PDF files to Word documents, I hope it helps:

Text box doesn’t show for me
Hi Liam,
What version of Office are you using. If you're using Office Online, you won't see it. You'll need a full version of Office to insert a text box.
I have a Word doc where I placed a text box over a photo. I eliminated the background & the border. I need to edit the text, but I cannot get the text box to highlight? Thanks!
Hi Stevie,
Try clicking on the image/textbox and seeing if the Text Box or Image selects. Whichever one selects, go to the Format Tab, Arrange Group and click Send Backward. It'll send it to the back and allow you to select the text box. From there you should be able to highlight the text and remove it. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Why can't I put the cursor where I want to paste a text box and have it go there? I put the cursor and the text box pops up elsewhere on the page. It's really a pain when I'm pasting a bunch of them and have to chase them around the page.
Hi Bonanzaman100,
Make sure you're using the 'Draw Text Box' option. If you use that, it should draw the text to the correct area. Then you can copy/paste the text that you want into the text box. If you use a different text box, it'll jump to wherever your insertion point is at on the page. I hope this helps.
Thanks for these wonderful videos! They really help when cramming for the moss exams! ^u^
Hi Natcat,
No problem, I'm glad they're helping! Remember, you can request a video on any subject I haven't covered and I'll make it for you. Best of luck with your upcoming exams!
What is text box my friend😂😂🎓🎓
How to use bullets or numbering to highlight the sentences as point wise
You rescued me, I'm an adult student with no computer skills and working from home I have gone through loosing my assignments at the last minute to creating my own poster which you have helped me do. All i did was draw text boxes in different sizes with and inserted my work lol and this has taken me all night lol. Thank you so much
Hi Viola,
I am glad my video helped you out. Thanks for watching and have a nice day.
Hi I'm creating a flow chart using text boxes..how do I stop them from all moving out of sinc when I add text/make one text box longer.. how do I get the following text boxes to just automatically move down the page?. I'm also using Shape arrows in between. Thanks
Sir,
I'm unable to add a new page after the initial page(where Text Box is added).
Once i'm adding a blank page,it's getting added before the Text Box containing page, not after
Please help me
Hi Tirtha,
Try clicking after the text box, then pressing enter to move your cursor down within your document. From there, insert the blank page and it should insert the page after your cursor without bumping the text box to the new page. I hope this helps you.
It's so weird that the settings in format including text fill, text outline, and text effects are missing alongside others hmp
Hi Professor, I created an image with a small amount of text, I would like to move the text and the box, BUT, it leaves the image behind, how do I lock the 2 together so that I can move them together please?
I teach a computer class to adults and I find your videos so helpful. Your easy going style and simple instructions keep the learners from being overwhelmed and lost. Thanks for making these!!!
Hi Maura,
I'm glad these videos are working well for your students. I really appreciate you sharing them, thank you! Have a nice day!
Thanks for this amazing video and all the details! A lot of my friends always refer to your videos when they need help 😃. Can you kindly tell me how can I ensure my text box won't move when others open my document on their computer? I find my teacher telling me you have some things out of place. And I just can't figure out how to keep a text box in place?!? I choose move with text, it moves, i choose fix on page, it moves. Why does it seem so complicated for something just to stick in place and not move. I always try all options of wrap text, or other things and it still moves! Desperately seeking advice, thank you very much
Hi purple9rain,
I am glad you enjoyed my video, thank you for watching! One way to ensure that your text box won't move is to convert it to a PDF document. The problem with keeping it in Word is that if your teacher is using a different version from you, some things may be moved around. You could also change layout options to lock your text box in place within word. Here are 2 links that should get it sorted out for you:
Word to PDF video: ua-cam.com/video/rhwTsARMNto/v-deo.html
Layout Options in Word: support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/wrap-text-and-move-pictures-in-word-becff26a-d1b9-4b9d-80f8-7e214557ca9f?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us
Adam. how to duplicate a text box across all mirroring pages but with individualized content for each page? I did a text box on the header, but the text is repeating all over the pages. Thanks. I am annotating a word document of several pages. Thanks.
Hi Natayqueso,
The text will repeat on each page that it is copied to. If you want to use the text box as a template part. You can save it as a building block or just copy and paste the blank text box to each page. Here is a video I made on building blocks in Word that could help you out:
ua-cam.com/video/b6en0KDBZHE/v-deo.html
Hi professor Morgan, I was wondering How do you remove the text box? The example I dod paper and I'm not sure how I got the text box on there but I need to remove and I can't figure it out can you help please (ACE) stuck in a box
Hi John,
Try clicking on the border and pressing the delete key. That should remove the text box. Thanks for watching.
Please help me ....I'm doing a word document ie an SOP with lots of textbooks all over the document. How do I make the textbooks all same size without doing them one by one. Is there a way to link them. Thanks
I know I am doing something wrong but...I have created a text box and then inserted a picture into that text box but I do not have the option of position for the picture. It will only stay inline with the text. I cannot find a way to move it around since the position tab is grayed out. Can you help please?
Hi Debbi,
If you're working with Pictures, you probably don't need to bother with the Text Box. I'd recommend just working with the Picture Layout Options. I show how to use them in the video below. I hope it helps you out:
ua-cam.com/video/wmy74ja6Foo/v-deo.html
I have a Word 2016 document with what looks like a text box with flow control. All I need to do is correct a typo inside the box but cannot access in any way. Can you help?
HI Bill,
If you're able to delete it, you could delete it and recreate it. I'm not entirely sure why it is locked without seeing your actual document. I hope this helps.
Yes, it's clear now. Thank you so much for breaking it down..
Perfect, glad that helped out. Thanks for the comment!
Hi, can you help me in inserting figure within the "text box" of two column word document. I have selected the relevant options in wrap text of text box like "square", "unclick on move with text" text is box is not moving but feels difficulty in arranging on right position.
Hi Simha t,
You will need to arrange the object so that it wraps with the text. If you go to the Picture Tools Format Tab, and choose the Position button, you can set specifics. If you want it in an absolute position, choose the Choose More Options button at the bottom of the Postion button gallery. Choose the horizontal and vertical Absolute Position options and line them up with the exact point in the ruler where you want the text box to stay. I hope this helps, have a great day.
Hi! Great video. I have an interesting problem, maybe you have a solution:
I have two different unlinked Text boxes in my document. I have a numbered list in the First text box, and I want a separate numbered list in the second text box. When I put the Numberd list in the second text box it continues the numbering from the first text box and when I go into the format- bullets and numbering, the restart numbering it just do not work. :( Is this a bug in Word? (I am using Word 2016)
Hi Bence,
Click inside the text box where you want the numbers to restart. Then click the Numbering Arrow (Home Tab, Paragraph Group) and at the bottom of the list, you'll see an option for 'Set Numbering Value' to click on. Click it to open the dialog box and you can choose if you want to start a new list or continue from previous. From there, you can choose the value of the new numbered list. I hope this helps you out!
Does windows 10 come with word and excel by default? I'm thinking to reset the system since I deleted the files needed to run them. Will resetting Windows 10 restore Word and Excel?
Hi FriedFrudda,
It does not come with Office. You have to purchase Office in order to use it. I hope this helps.
hi! wonderful video! How can I add a modified ARROW to the picture on top of the text? thx
Hi Galina,
You can add an Arrow by going to the Insert Tab and clicking the Shapes command. They have a variety of arrows that you can use to draw an arrow pointing to your picture. I hope this helps, thank you for watching.
I'm trying to do a document for hw with little information from my tutor. All I have is the instructions which I DON'T understand
Dude thanks so much. I was so frustrated with my text boxes and this video really helped me
Yes 🎓
Hi, I can't figure out how to lock text box in place so when someone opens the document to edit the text in it, they won't be able to move the text box out of place.
Hi Paulo,
You can try locking the document. Go to the File tab and click Options. From there, choose Protect Document and click Restrict Editing. let me know if that helps.
I have a document with text boxes. When I save it and open it again it doesn't save the format. How can I get it to save the format?
what if you wanted lines inside the box to divide the box into multiple sections. Like for example if you had 4 boxes and wanted the boxes sectioned into 3 or 4 parts and similar types of information was meant for each section of the separate box.
Hi Kingzfan2000,
For that, you would need to create 4 separate text boxes and add the text to each one individually. The only type of boxes that can have sections split or merged together are tables. I'll link a video to that below in case that's what you're looking for:
ua-cam.com/video/nxOx228e5xk/v-deo.html
Thanks so much, saved me a lot of frustration creating a document, without wasting time on chit chat!
No problem Debbie, I like to keep my tutorials short and to the point. Thank you for watching!
Thank you! How do I create a text box that doesn't move or re-size when text is typed in it?
Jesus saves God loves y’all sm through Jesus all is possible
Sir I created a text box, bit I need to add more pages, it is not creating new pages , If I select add new pages in the end
First-time viewer & new subscriber / The video was helpful ~ thanks!
Hi Marilyn,
That's great, thank you for watching and subscribing. If you have any questions on any videos, let me know in the comments and I'll try to help!
Apparently i need to ask my school to be able to use a textbox
Do you know of a way to make a text box that doesn't get bigger as more text is added, BUT the text that is added auto adjusts to the text box size (in other words the text box stays the same size, and any text that's added in will all show up in the box by changing it's text size to fit)?
Hi Jon,
Word text boxes don't do that. PowerPoint placeholders do. What I would do is draw the text box. Add the text, then reduce the size to the size that you need. Then select all of the text and reduce the text size until it fits in the box. I hope this helps.
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan ok thank you!
what is your template name used in this video , i want to use the page box
Hey Arun,
Unfortunately, as of now I don't save the templates that I use in my tutorial. I am going to start doing that at some point in 2018 once I figure out the best way to distribute them. You should be able to follow along on a blank template. The box around the page is a page border. Thanks for the comment and have a nice day!
can we stop duplicatong text box in every page and how?
Thank you, I learn something new everyday
When i insert an image into a text box i can’t seem to move the image please help me

Hello, what if you can't type I'm the text box anymore b/c it became an image? How do you get back into edit the text?
Hi Professor Morgan. I just came across your You Tube channel. I am teaching myself how to foil my quotes to put on resin key chains and I want to know how to fill in the whole text box with words to fit an 8 1/2"x11" page. Is it possible? Thank you.
I can't understand ur language bcoz i am an indian..
Not what I was looking for but I found this to be excellent, excellent, excellent!
Hi Anita,
I'm glad this video ended up being helpful for you. Can I help you with your original question?
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan As with Anita, very helpful, but I was looking to format a small, blank text box (which I did) and to be able to put a check mark inside (checklist) which I haven't/can't. Thanks for the content.
How do you rotate the text box in 365? I don't have that green swirl at the top of the text box to do it? So frustrating.
Hi Lillane,
Yes, usually you will see the rotation handle at the top of the text box as long as the text box is selected. If not, go to the Drawing Tools Format tab and check in the arrange group. You should see a button that says Rotate. If you click that, it should allow you to rotate your object.
NOW Its 2023 and this Baby Boomer is taking online courses. You have saved my life and my sanity. I hope your chosen profession helps people as you do here on UA-cam 💛🖤
Tytyty tysvvm Hun. I'm not computer savvy at all so it's extremely challenging for me. Your explanations were perfect.
Thanks great video explained really well
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching, Tassia.
Why is it that even having a big textbox, some of the sentences are still invisible and a smaller portion of the sentences are seen.
Hi Giratina,
You can try typing within the tex tbox, pressing Control+A to Select All of the text. From there, go to the Home Tab, Font Group, and choose the Font Size button. Since you have all of the text selected, if you increase the text size, it should update the text within the text box. I hope this helps thanks for watching.
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan thank you so much
No problem!
How can I set a character limit for a text box in MS word 2016, for the purpose of using the document as a template?
Hi Colby,
Unfortunately you can't set a character limit in a text box. However, you can go to the Insert Tab, Text Box Command, Draw Text Box button to create a fixed height. If the person types to much in the text box, the text will disappear. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it's your best option.
Professor Adam MorganThank You for the reply!
No problem
How do I edit a text box that I already saved?
How can I get things I insert to print?
how to restrict the number of words in the text box
Hi Augustine,
I don't think this is a feature anymore. I know in older versions of Word, you can do this. I don't think 2016 has the functionality for this. Now, words shrink to fit within a text box and won't extend beyond what the text box can fit. I hope this clears it up.
How to delete a text box but keep the text
Hi,
if we already have texts in text box which is anchored in a word document,
how to convert them into normal text?
Cheers.
Very useful thank you for sharing.. I have a protected word doc that allows recipients to fill in certain fields. My question is can I add a free type text box that allows data entry whilst the rest of the document is protected and "Can I limit it to a number of characters or words" Heeeeeeeeeeelp been all over the internet and can't find a solution
No problem Andrew, thank you for watching. This is an interesting question. I don't necessarily think Word is the best program for this. You'd probably want to use an Adobe Acrobat form if the software is available to you. I suppose another alternative would be to create a Form in Microsoft Access since you'd have more control over what can be typed and where it could be typed. I'm not sure Word has these capabilities.
Will do~ thank you!
No problem, have a nice day!
Thank you it was really helpful and detailed it's 2022 and it still top of the search really good content.
Hi Professor! Pls how can I continue onto a next page?
Hi Brazil,
You would need to add in a page break after your text box. Here is a video I made on how to do that:
ua-cam.com/video/lTwNT4-VlWI/v-deo.html
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan thanks very much Prof....this is helpful
Is it possible to wrap text within a text box if a line exceeds the parameters of the text box you set for it?
Great video. Can you customize the text boarder to something like a boarder of stars or teddy bears?
Hi Chris,
Sure, it would take a bit of customization and creativity. Basically, you'd have to remove the current border on the text box. Then you'd insert a picture of a bear or star border. You could find the picture online on Google images or go to the Insert Tab within Word and choose Online pictures. Then you could add the picture to your document, and move the picture over the text box. From there, you could click the picture and go to the picture tools format tab and click the send backward button until it's behind the text box. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions.
hi. i am also trying to insert an image inside a textbox it does not move backward, the image won't show. pls help. :)
How do you delete the damn box? Not so clear
Hi Cyric,
To delete a text box, click on the border of the text box and press the delete key on the keyboard. Let me know if this helps.
I have a question: Do you know of any way to make the font size shrink when resizing a text box (so that it's relative to the size of the text box) without having to manually go back and reduce the font size? (Thanks also for the clear post) - cheers, Pauline
Hi Pauline,
I do not know of a way to reduce text size automatically when reducing text box size. I think this is an operation that needs to be done manually. If you figure out a way, please let me know. Thanks for watching.
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan Yeah, I figured :( - I think there's a way it can be done in Publisher/PowerPoint but so far I don't know of a way to do it in Word text boxes. Thanks for the quick reply. Kia kaha (stay strong) from New Zealand
Hi again Adam - I just figured out a pretty good way to work around the issue just now - I used the Snipping tool to select the text box and copied the image into the document - resizing is now a breeze!
That's a good work around. Thanks for sharing!
COULD U PLEASE SHOW HOW TO MOVE A TEXT BOX?
Hi Steve,
Okay so I should be able to explain it in this comment:
With a text box you should be able to move it by doing the following.
1. Click somewhere inside the text box
When you do this, you should notice a border appear around the text box with little circles (sizing handles) on each corner and side.
2. Move your cursor to the border, but not on a sizing handle.
You should notice the cursor changes to a black 4-directional arrow icon
3. Click and drag the text box to the place that you want it on your page.
Hopefully that is clear, and helps you out. If not let me know and I'll make a video on it. Thanks for watching the video and have a nice day.
This is a good video (which I see was published over a year ago. So I hope you still reply to questions and requests).
Can you (if you haven't already) upload a video teaching how to insert, format, and customize, text boxes, shapes, images, and WordArt?
Also, do you have a video demonstrating drop caps?
Hi Nasiruddin,
Yep, I try to reply to every comment on the channel. I do have videos covering text boxes and images. I have a video on shapes, but it's in PowerPoint, which is pretty close to how it's done in word. WordArt and drop caps can be a video I make soon, good suggestions!
Professor Adam Morgan thank you! Yes, I actually found the video on shapes after I asked the question last night.
Great, glad it helped out! Have a nice day.
Is it possible to insert a box that appear everywhere in the right panel?
Really appreciate the explanation
No problem Larry, I appreciate you watching the video.
