If only that whistle would be recovered… Edit 6/4/23: The whistle has been recovered and used on ATSF 2926 when her original whistle was being repaired back in 2021.
that's correct. Most people are normally accustomed to hearing the SP-6 chime being blown on 190-220 PSI, as that is what most modern day excursion locomotives operate at. The cab forwards ran at 250 PSI and the GS-4s ran at 300 PSI, so both of those locomotives would have blown their 6-chimes at a higher pitch.
... first off, the difference is more like 100 PSI, and secondly, it makes quite a noticeable difference in pitch, or do you not understand how basic acoustics work?
@@FanRailer Yeah, it makes a noticeably different sound because it’s TUNED that way. There is not much difference between a whistle on 250 PSI and 300 PSI. It’ll sound a LITTLE different but it’s not much. Don’t try and act like a know-it-all for whistles. Dick
The fact that you’re even saying “tuned” goes a long way in showing you don’t understand the the basic working concept of a steam whistle, or how acoustic resonance is affected by temperature, which is notably higher at 300 psi vs 200 psi.

It also had the white lining on it's wheels when it hauld the Freedom Train, painted in black in 2000-2001, the Freedom Trains return 2002 and back to daylight in 2004
There is actually a sidetrack which allows one train to pass another. The Daylight train had to wait on a siding to let the Amtrak train pass before the 4449 can proceed.
