    You don't need immigration, You need to fix the tax system to allow more growth in the birthrate. Now we have 2 spouses working outside the home and ones paycheck pays for the childcare and groceries and the other for paying the mortgage and bills. Just insane.

    Wanting to preserve your culture is not racism. It is a natural response to a lack of immigrant integration changing the familiarity that gives comfort. Abandoning a massive 28 country bureaucracy that has an absurd currency union is simply intelligent.
    The EU is doomed!

    Japan doesn't have immigration, despite their increasing aging population. Their solution is to bring in temporary workers without a pathway to citizenship. I.e. bring jobs/skills in as needed, but don't increase long term cost of government with new citizens.

      You're wrong about that....there are many immigrants in Japan (most of them are Koreans, Chinese, Filipinos and even Brazilians)...but Japan is picky when it comes to immigrants...they only want those who can fit in well with their culture...this is where Europe messed up...afraid of being called racists...Europeans would take in anyone who is physically strong enough to cross the Mediterranean who doesn't even have a passport

    "Racism" means to have loyalty and solidarity to people of your own ethnicity. Why is this bad? And if most people feel this way, should this not be reflected in policy? Assuming Italy is a democracy?

  • @Hustlin87
    @Hustlin87 5 років тому +28

    Funny how he mentioned Brexit and this attracting racists who dont want immigration. Its now considered racist to not want to be a minority in your own homeland which will be the case in England in 40 or 50 years. They try and get around this by redefining what “English” is and that definition is anyone with a passport (so African, Indians, Pakistanis are now all English apparently). Hope the masses wake up soon before its too late.

    • @MrAmbrosse
      @MrAmbrosse 5 років тому +3

      Jack Daniel Unfortunately this has all come about due to government policies. They have 100% control over immigration and theyve allowed this to happen. 3 ways this can go down. 1 - Europeans do nothing and watch as their entire continent, heritage and people are displaced by African, Arabs, Pakistanis, Indians, etc and theyre now a hated minority in their own homelands. 2 - Mass repatriation and deportation of anyone from a non European background. 3 - Full out civil war, Balkan style ethnic cleansing.

    Yes interesting 3-part series, but VERY thin when it comes to immigration. Guys you seem to value history so pls go look up the word "racist": who invented it, when and for what purpose?
    It was invented in 1930 by USSR's Leon Trotsky to ridicule and shame traditionalist Slavs who loved their culture and nations. I.e. in exactly the same way it is used now to stop debate and free speech and to belittle patriots.
    First the socialists destroy traditional values including family values, this makes women "free" (immoral and promiscuous) and then they steal peoples money making it very expensive having children, which in turn results in less than the approx 2.2 children/woman which is minimum to keep the population at a constant level.
    So instead of FIXING the problem - re-instating family values and letting people keep (more of) their own money - socialists and it seems economists along with them can only think of 'immigration' sponsored by the stolen money of the original population!?
    I am not impressed!

    • @mypearl53
      @mypearl53 5 років тому

      Correct on the word 'racist' in the 60s English dictionary there is no such word rather it was invented out of reactionary response with a combination of bigotry and racial ... bigotry is not necessarily a racial term and racial is simply a general reference.

    Little said about the Italian economic outlook of any substance, but any interview done by Grant Williams is too notch! On another note...
    It’s unfortunate that all countries allow citizens grow up with the ideal that the country ‘owes them’. Every citizen should have the ideal that they determine the future and health of their own country. Allowing politicians into power that destroy their country makes no sense at all.
    Points:
    1.) The wealth of a nation is determined by the wealth of its people.
    2.) The inability of politicians to focus and conserve capital is the root evil of the destruction of all countries.
    3.) A nation’s population needs to be stable, in that the birth rate needs to be higher than its death rate. Governments MUST focus on increasing birth rates, instead of immigration. Controlled immigration is better for the people of any given country.
    4.) Giving political power to politicians the right to destroy your country is a dumb idea. The people in a democracy must reign supreme over politicians bent on destroying one’s nation.
    5.) Vote like the future of your nation depends upon the tick you put on your ballot!
    More another time.

    The economy of Italy and Europe as a whole would improve greatly if those immigrants that are on welfare are repatriated back to their country of origin. Productive people aid an economy, useless people drain an economy. The money saved should be used to encourage native Europeans to have more children through tax incentives and grants.

    I got a base in Malta and the amount of Italians that have come for the jobs, it's crazy as the place is booming. Plus we got refugees coming from North Africa. It's like a dual invasion of sorts, and when the downturn comes, I wonder how it will play out.
    On predicting or planning out a possible trade in Italy, my advice it's like how we say in Malta, 'cultures come and go, but the land remains'.

    What a great series! Although I feel more European than anything else, I totally recognize the challenges facing the Union. The way the Greek crisis was handled was shameful and did a lot of harm to the Union. That harm was compounded with the management of the immigration crisis. I really hope the leadership will step up its game for the coming economic crisis. The situation is likely to become so bad we will need political solutions. Politicians will not be able to hide behind central bankers and sit that crisis out.

  • @DonVoghano

    Remember that high interest rates were in great part offset by high inflation. A higher rate of inflation in Italy, while much maligned in the past, is actually positive in many ways: Italians tend to be hoarders and highly risk averse, the high inflation actually forced velocity into a naturally sluggish economy. The other side of this hoarding mentality is the tax evasion and tendency to create excessive debt at the collective level, and here Inflation lowered the burden of debt. The deflationary scenario of the Euro days has effectively acted as a multiplier of all the endemic negative aspects of Italian economic biases. It made debts heavier, it encouraged hoarding even more, it caused wealth inequality to spiral out of control and killed the real estate market.

    The thing about checking the tax status of luxury cars owners happened back in 2012 and only lasted a little while. The real reason you see fewer luxury cars on the road in Italy nowadays is that they are brutally taxed (there is an annual registration tax with a big surcharge for luxury cars... it almost killed the market). Also, you were not driving through the wealthiest part of Italy. Go to Emilia-Romagna and Lombardia to see supercars on the road.

    Why do Germany and Italy need to increase their population through immigration? Perhaps the birth rate is falling because of the high taxes. Incentivise native Italians to have more children by offering tax breaks.
    Increasing automation in the near future means that there will be much higher rates of unemployment. Presumably, many of these African immigrants will still have to be financially supported by the State then.

    There is enormous wealth in all European countries but usually due to conflicts, wars, corruption and bad or incompetent government results in lack of economic opportunities. According to Wikipedia, between 1861 and 1985, about 29 million Italians emigrated to other countries to earn a living, 16 million of them before the First World War. About 10 million returned to Italy and about 19 million permanently settled. In the 21st century due to the social-economic problems, especially among the youth, according to the Public Register of Italian Residents Abroad (AIRE), figures of Italians abroad rose from about 3.1 million in 2006 to 4.6 million in 2015.
    For many countries, immigration due to conflicts, wars, corruption and bad or incompetent governments resulting in lack of economic opportunities still appears to be continuing in the 21st century. It is interesting that Italy is now also a destination for immigrants rather than a major source of immigrants.

You're making the assumption that the future is going to similar to the past. It isn't. A revolution is coming that will change society forever at a very fundamental level. Crowd fund the pothole fixing and see where it goes from there. 21st century fiscal policy. You do not know which public goods can't be crowd funded until you try. Also if its dominant assurance contracts its a new investment opportunity. No government needed but they need to allow it.

Prices in the centre of Milan continue to increase, despite Covid, the Porta Nuova district is one of the more expensive in Europe and has the higher per Capita income. BUT, you can buy property ay fairly decent prices in other nice areas of the city or in urban centres sorrounding Milan, which is very Well connected to all the rest of Lombardy.

    But the immigration is a net deficit on the economy. How come this will save the economy? We know why birth rate is down. It’s because women use their 20ies on college and a “career” entry level job. Solution is to make women wait with college til after 30. Then they will have 1-3 children in their 20ies and maybe 1-2 in their 30ies. They can get their career from 30-67 years of age. That’s almost 40 years of a career. Nature haven’t changed. Women’s fertility drastically go down after 30.

    The “I haven’t seen any nice cars” bit was obviously a question planned in advance. I mean come on, random observation with a whole interesting and relevant back story of which the driver just happens to know all the details? :)

    Has anyone studied the economic impact on the Italian economy of foreign millionaires living in Tuscan Villas? OK, so I'm being a bit facetious, but maybe that's the solution to Italy's economic problems: have 1 million millionaires and billionaires from China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil etc. build Tuscan villas and live there....

    you don't need immigration to do the low skilled jobs you innovate with technology ... putting more hungry elephants in the kitchen is typical of poor leadership, sovereign nations have irrefutable nationalism, its a natural condition of human beings.... what is obvious is over complexity and making the wrong decisions, where simple solutions are available re Joseph Tainter.

    What a great show. Let’s see how this plays out in other European countries. In Berlin pitch forks definitely get sharper by the minute. They want to freeze rents for the next 5 years. Let’s hope we are not all socialists by then.

    Interesting to see that they avoided talking about the elephant in the room, China. Don't you think that China will offer to help Italy recover by offering to build a new infrastructure such as a deep water port large enough to accommodate Chinese war vessels, there by assuring themselves a foothold into Europe.
