@@Jellybean0009 Yep, I enlisted a year before the war ended. I didn't serve in Vietnam, just in the Army when it was winding down. CCR was a HUGE deal to the Vietnam Veterans.
It was written for Gladys Knight and the Pips but was first recorded by The Miracles in 1966 but wasn't released until 2 years later. Then it was recorded by Marvin Gaye in early '67 but not released until late '68, two months after the Miracles version. Gladys Knight finally recorded it and released it in late '67. Her version became Motown's best selling song up until then. A year later the Marvin Gaye version outsold it. The 11 minute CCR version came out in 1970 on an album and this video was an after-thought. The CCR version was used for the California Raisins commercials. John Fogerty ( Lead singer and guitarist) was one of the founders of CCR. He wrote “Have you ever seen the Rain?” , “Proud Mary”, “ Fortunate Son”, “Who’ll Stop the Rain?”, “,Looking out my Back Door “, Rocking All Over the World”, “Centerfield”, and “ Down on the Corner”. “ Heard it through the Grapevine “ was actually written by Marvin Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records and was recorded by Gladys Knight and the Pips, released in 1967, and by Marvin Gaye, released in 1968. Even though the Miracles were the first to record it in 1966, their version wasn’t released until 1968. While the standard versions from Motown were 2:50- 3:00 minutes long, CCR recorded an 11:00 minute version for their album, Cosmo’s Factory in 1970. I love John Fogerty’s voice. It’s funky and unique. Down on the Corner, Centerfield, and Proud Mary are all great, but Fortunate Son is probably his most historically important one, as a Vietnam war protest song.

This has to be the shortest version of CCR's version of this song! I am used to this being a 15 minute song!!! Born on the bayou is an awesome CCR track and definitely worth a listen!
Because album versions are the longest many times especially in these past eras with shorter ones for radio and if it had a video in-the-day. Really, 1970 was not yet a video making era so most from them eras are live snippets or at a studio jam or TV show performances sometimes lip-synthed used now as a - Official Video. I personally do love the fact these now used-as-videos showing the artist in their prime still have a lot to offer those who are not familiar with the era. LIKE THEY SAY.... a picture says 1000 words. Less so for music the whole experience, but still 50+yrs later... you cannot capture the group by just the song without seeing too.
@@patrickquinlan3056 Still as a boomer myself. I was a kid in 1970 and did not buy records till late 70s. I did not get to see TV shows they were on late night or even prime-time since a kid had no control of the TV so seeing even shorter versions of them in their prime has a SUPERIOR POINT TO MAKE and of of course the album has its reason to buy it for the whole musical experience alone..... I remember how my Father who already hated the music of the late 60s 70s 80s etc.... saying all they do is yell and screech. He wanted a crooner voice LOL. Kind of like my ear for most Rap Hip Hop today is not great. Exceptions sure. Over-use of autotune you easily hear is no help either and few actually live performances not lip-synthe to because it is so altered. You can alter your own voice and fix it at home today by apps etc. So talent is far less necessary if you can be promoted and a song that will also get promoted as individual radio stations and owners have little say in what music is played. It all since the late 90s comes from some TOP ELITE choosing what the masses are to hear. SO THE ROCK ERA WAS CHOSEN TO END....
CCR is total fire no matter what song they do. Their "swamp rock" sound can't be beat even though they're just a bunch of California boys! Check out "Bad Moon Rising" or "Fortunate Son", or "Proud Mary", or........ ANYTHING they do, really!

I love You and Your Reviews, keep them coming!!!
I was blessed to go to high school in the late 1980’s, graduated in 1990. After the home football games we always had a dance, I used to dance to this song. I would go to the dance right after the game and wait on my boyfriend who played football to change and clean up. I remember slow dancing with him, he’d showered and he of course had the mullet, I’d lay my head on his shoulder and his hair would be wet and he’d smell so good. I’ve never forgot that. Just one of those sweet memories that certain songs take me back too. We’d went our separate ways by senior year and I married the guy I started dating the last few months of my senior year. But I’ve never forgot those high school dances after the Friday night home football games. Those were such great innocent times.
They have a huge catalogue of hits! Looking Out My Back Door, Run Through the Jungle, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Suzy Q, Down on the Corner.....All of these were massive hits and well worth listening to, but the list goes on and on!
John Fogerty is a real gem. He now performs with his kids and tells a little story after every CCR he and his children played. Last time I saw them was about 4 years ago and they are still on top of things! Bad Moon Rising definitely is on top op my recommended list of I put a spell you!
CCR is the first band I think of when I hear the term "classic rock." They had an insane number of classic rock songs in a relatively short amount of time. Their batting average was crazy. Every album is almost like a greatest hits.
I love the rabbit hole you have found. I’m younger then you, by about 8ish years I think but was exposed to so much music growing up. I absolutely love seeing you feel the joy in the music. Pretty much can’t describe how it makes me feel. Pure bliss in the joy of discovery. *Thank* *You* *For* *Being* *You*
My dad brought me up listening to CCR. Classic. Definitely listen to the extended studio version of this song for the guitar and drum solos. And for your next CCR reaction, I nominate Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary.

John Fogerty's voice and style, yes. Grew up in LA , they were thought of as a garage band. The best. We love them because they sounded like they were from somewhere else like the swamp. I love this. Thanks

Two iconic bands that influenced so many artists are CCR and Skynrd. They both have their own sound that can’t be matched. ❤️🔥💙💜. You have to check out their version of “PROUD MARY”
CCR is unique. Their songs are amazing. Take a deep dive and you'll realize that you've heard a fair amount of their music. The singer, John Fogerty, is one of the most unique voices of his time. He has had a long solo career, after he and CCR had a major falling out.
Two other R&B artist sang "I heard it through the Grapevine" besides John Fogerty: Gladys Night and the Pips was the first recording of the song released as a single in Sept 1967. It was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for "Gladys Knight & the Pips" and released as a single in September 1967. The next year, Marvin Gaye's 1968 version "...transformed the song into a raw, anguished cry for the truth."
Give "The cars hiss by my window" a listen too! It is sang by Jim Morrison from the Doors! it's an awesome tune! it's definitely a bluesy tune! It'll blow you away. Of course it's from the album "LA Woman," he also sings the song called "Gloria" it's pretty funky you might like that, the dirty version is the best! Jim Morrison OD'd over in France in 1970 "heroin" so there band obviously broke more or less at that point! their music still lives on, its definitely very iconic!
YES!!! CCR is in my top 10 bands of all time, they are absolutely THE BEST back yard hangin, whiskey sippin, beer drinkin, joint smokin, sitting by the fire music around. Im in for all the CCR reactions you get out.
Jesus, love me some CCR. In fact back in 69 I heard them for the first time and was hooked for life. Our soldiers in the Vietnam war enjoyed them so much. Kick up some more when you have time. CCR will never disappoint. Fogerty is still singing concerts to this day.
My children are 46 45 42 and 41, and I am so jazzed to watch your reaction to my, MY, old music, the music of my time. To see your "feelin it" like I did way back then, makes my day. I been stuck in bed with vertigo binging on your channel because I can't do a thing right now and this is making vertigo endurable for the first time. Being still and just walking back in time and watching you relate to some good old time tunes, yeah, YEAH!
My personal requests would be CCR Fortunate Son and CCR Bad Moon Rising. You've surely heard FS before once you start listening, it has been used in so many movies.
It's amazing how a song takes you back in time. My dad introduced me to this band when he got back from Vietnam War. He had Creams CD, this band , Jimmy Hendrix, and one of the song Spirit In The the Sky Norman Greenbaum.
I have loved CCR since I was a small child because my sister was 10 yrs older than me and she loved them! To this day I know the words to most of their songs! I am here for this all day every day! I recommend Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, Lookin Out My Back Door Born on the Bayou HELL, you can pick just about anything and it will not disappoint! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Every time I hear a new CCR song it just instantly goes to my playlist. There are so many songs you've surely heard throughout life, but wouldn't know was by them, they produced so many bangers in the short timeframe of band's existence. Also, there's a 10 minute "jam out" version of this song where they just vibing, if you liked this, might want to check it out.
Oh, CCR has been such a huge part of my life musically since I was a kid! You can't go wrong with anything they've done! John Fogerty is the driving force with his raw, one of a kind voice and amazing, magical guitar work. Went on to a very successful solo career and I was lucky enough to see him perform live several times. Please react to CCRs 'Born on the Bayou'...guarantee you'll love it !
Love this. The bands from the 1960-1970s were mostly Garage Bands. They spent every weekend and all summer banging away at their instruments until it sounded good. Then they were at school and community dances.......Then the road to college campuses and then to fame.

One of the greatest bands of their generation. This is hilarious and I love it.
CAN’T BEAT THESE GUYS……MY BEST 60s BAND……❤❤❤❤
Ccr is another level of awesome
CCR is total fire no matter what song they do. Their "swamp rock" sound can't be beat even though they're just a bunch of California boys! Check out "Bad Moon Rising" or "Fortunate Son", or "Proud Mary", or........ ANYTHING they do, really!
One of the most legendary band of all times, great reaction!!!
Just saw Fogerty last fall in Nashville and he still brings it after all of these years.
John Fogerty: the voice, the singersongwriter, composer, the legend.
These cats were together for only like 4 years, but the music they put out is endless. Cotton fields and midnight special are my favorites
Born on the Bayou, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Green River, Fortunate Son, and the list goes on
CCR is ONE of THE bands, you know: history, legendary, songwriting ... dive into it, bro! Buy a "Greatest Hits" record and you'll geht the GREATEST HITS! :) ♥
My fav: "Suzie Q." and "Fortunate Son" ♥
I Put a Spell on You.
Long version.
They come from my Home Town and they are GREAT!!! I am an Older White Woman (62) who Loves Music and I love to see The Younger Generation and Hear some of the Music and also know how y'all react to Our Generation 60, 70 & 80's Music!! I also love Gospel and I have Sung some of Our Generation 's music just no longer able to because I have had surgery which cut my vocal cords and it has ruined my Voice both to talk & sing!
*Thank* *You* *For* *Being* *You*
I'm 71 love all their songs my dad who would be in his 90s. Loved Creedence also
My dad brought me up listening to CCR. Classic. Definitely listen to the extended studio version of this song for the guitar and drum solos. And for your next CCR reaction, I nominate Born on the Bayou and Proud Mary.
Hate that the “‘official” video doesn’t have the long version! Definitely should check that out on his own time. And I vote for I PUT A SPELL ON YOU!
OMG yes they have soul !! LOL They have no bad songs and a BIG rabbit hole to jump into to, loved this group !!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥gives me damn chills as usual ! 😄
I love John Fogerty & Creedence Clearwater Revival. We cruised through town drinking beer listening to CCR in high school in 1970. You definitely need to listen to more CCR!!!
I saw them in concert that year I was fifteen years old.
good memories, right? the good days..
John Fogerty's voice and style, yes. Grew up in LA , they were thought of as a garage band. The best. We love them because they sounded like they were from somewhere else like the swamp. I love this. Thanks
They were NOT from L.A. They were from the SF Bay Area. East Bay.
@@geerterri not from LA , but I was. We new them as a garage band maybe cause in the early days their licks were simple and easy for all the kids to play. Either way we all loved them.🤗
one of these very best bands ever
Yes do more they are awesome I grew up with them. The more you listen the more you will like them.
Two iconic bands that influenced so many artists are CCR and Skynrd. They both have their own sound that can’t be matched. ❤️🔥💙💜. You have to check out their version of “PROUD MARY”
These guys have been on fire for a long time! So glad folks are finding these guys again 😏😎
It doesn't matter race or color. When artists put their hearts and soul into their music, magic happens.
well said!!
Also sung by Marvin Gaye and Gladys knight and the Pips. I had so much fun tonight listening to 70's music. Thank you.
CCR is unique. Their songs are amazing. Take a deep dive and you'll realize that you've heard a fair amount of their music. The singer, John Fogerty, is one of the most unique voices of his time. He has had a long solo career, after he and CCR had a major falling out.
Yes more CCR!! One of my favorite bands to just chill out to! Fortune son is probably my fave. Jeremiah was a bullfrog is different but good too!
This is a great band with a deep catalog of swampy grooves!
Awesome band. You should do a reaction to their cover of "I Put A Spell On You".
Second that!!!
Great songs! 60s. Very popular group. They were one of my favorites. I am now 72 so a time ago.
I just turned 62 and was brought up listening to an eclectic mix of music. Love listening 🎶 ♥️ Thank you
John fogerty is one of the greatest vocalists in rock history, I have always considered him to be an underrated guitar player.
My personal requests would be CCR Fortunate Son and CCR Bad Moon Rising. You've surely heard FS before once you start listening, it has been used in so many movies.
Music of my youth!! Makes me want to dance every time , every song!
CCR is one of the best bands EVER!!
Yes more CCR! So many hits, so little time!
Soulful rock band. All songs are bangers. Check out more. You won't be disappointed.
CCR is absolutely amazing!! Gotta love this music!!❤
My favorite band of the era - above the Beach Boys, the Beatles, the Stones - I loved their sound, such a blend of influences.
Yeah 10 min. Version is amazing
This song is so good that all the versions are great. And they were all hits!
Looking out my back door and Lodi are two of my favorites 👌🏻 what a band 🔥
Blaring through every speaker in 'Nam - one of the most prolific groups of the time, great stuff. Fogerty got pipes!
So fun watching and listening to you. Thanks for the joy!
Their version of I Put a Spell On You is great too. It's hard to find a bad song from CCR.
Their extended version is even more 🔥
Born on the Bayou!!! There greatest tune
Love this. The bands from the 1960-1970s were mostly Garage Bands. They spent every weekend and all summer banging away at their instruments until it sounded good. Then they were at school and community dances.......Then the road to college campuses and then to fame.
