Back in 1969 through 1972 Creedence Clearwater Revival were all over the radio dial. From my junior high school days to high school CCR was blasting out hit after hit. The lead singer, John Fogerty and his Brother, Tom Fogerty, had a gigantic falling out which broke the band up and started a long list of law suits that made CCR disappear from history for many decades. Thanks for bringing them back.

    • @thomasjones4570

What do you mean disappeared?!? They became associated with the Vietnam war thanks to many MANY movies and shows about the war using their music and as can been seen by how many views their videos have on UA-cam, they have remained reasonably popular.

Another killer reaction to a classic banger. What I loved about Creedence most; it was just 4 guys with instruments having a good time hangin’ out. Their music could be a soundtrack to almost any activity you were getting into that day.

From Songfacts: This song was partly written for John Fogerty's son Josh, who at the time was three years old. Fogerty said: "I knew he would love it if he heard me on the radio singing - doot doot doo, lookin' out my back door." In the song lyrics there is a reference to a parade passing by which John says was inspired by a Dr. Seuss book that he read as a kid titled To Think (That) I Saw It On Mulberry Street.

The ultimate in ridiculousness occurred during one trial were Fogarty was, essentially, sued for sounding too much like himself in his solo efforts! That was thrown out of court also.

    • @stevedavis5704
      @stevedavis5704 11 місяців тому +18

If I remember correctly the judge ruled that Fogerty wasn’t imitating the sound of CCR, but that CCR was using the sound of John Fogerty. The ruling was that you can’t forbid a person from sounding like themselves. The bad feelings from that and other legal actions kept John from singing any of the old songs for many years. I guess if you want to look at it one way this meant that for many years we got new songs from John that we might not have if he had just been content to sing the same old songs.

In the song lyrics there is a reference to a parade of strange creatures and sights passing by which John says was inspired by a Dr. Seuss book that he read as a kid titled To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street.
Many people thought this song was about drugs when it was really an innocent song inspired by a child. According to the drug theory, the "Flying Spoon" was a cocaine or heroine spoon, and the crazy animal images were an acid trip. This wasn't plausible since Creedence Clearwater Revival was never into psychedelic drugs.

I watched this before--I love the way you appreciate John. He wrote this for his kids. Also, John loved country music and he had several country tunes as The Blue Ridge Rangers, (John was ALL of The Blue Ridge Rangers). Plus, he loves baseball!! and wrote and sang "(Put Me In Coach/ I can play) Centerfield". John wore western cut flannel shirts and plain cowboy boots; so did his fans. He lived, wrote, and played working man music.

I saw John live last year. He's coming up on 80 and still going strong. I just want to know what kind of vitamins he takes, because he's still bouncing all over the stage! Two of his sons are in his backup band. One of the most famous mis-heard lyrics in all rock 'n' roll is in his song "Bad Moon Rising," and it was sung so many times, John actually sings the mis-heard version in one chorus of every performance. "There's a bad moon on the rise" became "There's a bathroom on the right."

You can’t go wrong with early rock n roll and its evolution into the 80s. John Fogerty made a great comeback album with “Centerfield” in 1985. If you haven’t heard any of it, you should check it out. This came out when I was 13, and I was just transitioning from The Monkees and bubble gum pop. Not having any older brothers or sisters, I was a late bloomer I guess to the "harder" stuff 😂
Always always loved this 🎵 ❤

Their albums were awesome! You could put one on and listen from end to end and not be disappointed! I have several of their albums!! We all used our imagination back in the day, we wouldn't have survived without a good imagination!

Fogerty was one of those singers that was basically the voice of a generation. CCR's album Cosmo's Factory is easily one of
    the greatest albums ever made.

I am watching this video on February 7th, 2025. The mention of Buck Owens, a Country Singer. He was born in Texas and died in Bakersfield, California. In Bakersfield, Buck Owens owned a mansion in the "out skirts" of Bakersfield. Over the years while Buck was alive, we slowly drove by his mansion between 1960-1975-1980(can't remember for sure). Often, we would see Buck getting in and out of his front door. Also, watched him get in and out of his cars. He had a large semi circular driveway. That was handy when he had a lot of people parking. The driveway was wide enough for two rows of cars. People would park in such a way that they left enough space between cars so people who were leaving before the people in front or behind them, could easily get get out without bumping into the cars. And, wide enough between the cars to the left and right. Smart planing!!! When driving by, We never rolled down our windows to call out his name and bother him. He often would smile and wave at us, appearing to silently thanking us for not making a specticale of the situation. The mansion was one story with a basement. It gets HOT during the Summer!!! Average temperatures between the end of May and First part of October, waere between 85-110 degrees!!! At night, it got down to between 75-85 degrees!!! It was common in the 1960's 1970 to have "coolers" that blew cool air indoors. People who could afford a/c when they first came out for indoor use quickly cool down a room//house really helped people from fainting from "heat stroke" indoors!!! I could share more but feel my comment is a long enough "novel"!!! Comment from Karen living in Seattle since 1979!!!

John Fogerty at 78 yrs old, is still a superlative singer and guitar player. He's written some of the most iconic songs in the world. Most don't know it, but Proud Mary is one of his songs. People think it's a Tina Turner song. I'm happy you found CCR and John. Check out his solo cd.

I can hear the ‘Help’ in this too.
Do yourself a favor - not sure if you’ve ever heard of an Aussie singer by the name of John Farnham but he is an AMAZING male vocalist, one of the best you’ll ever hear and he has his own version of Help, live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
It’s hands down one of the best live performances you’ll ever hear. Check it out, you won’t regret it 👌🏼

I LOVE CCR!! I walked down the isle to get married to their song "Put A Candle In The Window. I couldn't find the Wedding March anywhere and my Dad loves CCR so that was our Wedding song. It's bluesy and his voice is incredible. But, John Fogerity has a great Solo catalogue is good too. Vance Can't Dance is a great Solo song of his.. I am so happy that you found CCR! I grew up with this music. Boomers and GenX had the best music of all generations!!! ❤

I grew up listening to CCR. Great memories. Greater Band. He mentions Buck Owens. Great country musician from Bakersfield, California. You should look into that, He is a great singer in his own right. Good enough that CCR made his name part of their lyrics.
