The more I learn about mixing, the more I realize how important it is to have a deep understanding of how our hearing works. I don't see a lot of engineers talking about this sort of thing! If we know how our ears perceive sound in a live setting, we can use this information to circumvent the limits of our speakers! I appreciate the care you give to these topics, Daniel. While the concepts aren't as flashy as learning a new trick or technique with the latest plugin, I feel these lessons are extremely beneficial in developing the understanding of audio and deepening our appreciation of it. I've been loving the Mixing Bible and look forward to more. Best to ya! 😄
Totally agree ! Great content Daniel such great value to your viewers, i’ll definitely going to spread the word and buy your online course, is there any books you can recommend that talking about the usage of reverbs and delays in mixes in these sort of way ?
@@joshbenzin I have not found good books about that topic. Not at all I have to say. But my next paid Tutorial will cover all aspects of that topic, as that is the wish of most users of the Bible, that in depth reverb is next, so i'll do that. Reveb and Space is a topic on which it really is hard to get usefull information. The American masters all are good with Reverb Design, but they fail in explaining it. They are just able to do it. I hope I can make a good tutorial, I have been spending many years on thinking how to explain that mythic thing.
@@danieldettwiler.official Thanks for the great video. The mentioned examples ( e.g. Frozen by Madonna) make the hugging really obvious. Do you also have a listening recommendation for orchestral/classical recording?
@@gidoherbers you got to listen - I usually look in Tidal and compare the recordings, until I found one (of what ever I want to listen) that is both played in the way I like it, and that sounds the way I like it. Usually, English recordings often sound great. If you compare different recordings of the same music, you hear the difference immediately.
Hi Daniel - absolutely love your channel and that you take the time to respond to the comments you receive! Was very, very curious what your all time favorite jazz records are, in terms of mix. Would love to know what you reference when working on a straight ahead jazz record. Thanks so much!
Thanks for liking it, spread the word!! Joni Mitchell "Both Sides now", I love that one. (The version with the orchestra). Diana Krall is what I often listen. Most records sound good. The song "Temptation" is a good reference... That's about it. I love the old school recordings by Fred Plaut (Kind of Blue, or Take 5), but those, while sounding great, are not good as references. Cheers, DD
In the Bible, there are 2 chapters about reverb, and I show some tricks there, how to make reverbs wide, but that thing with the "Blauert-Frequencie Bands" will be covered in my separate Reverb Tutorial, that I will create very soon.
Actually my answer was incorrect, I thought you were only speaking about the blaertsche Frequenzen. However how to get a wide mix with depth is covered very much in the bible. And then later, when the Reverb Tutorial comes, it even will be covered more in depth..
Hey Daniel! Thanks for your videos, I will be buying your course in the next month or 2 as I have learned so much from just a few of your videos that I haven't learned from any other vids, and they have immediately improved my mixes, thanks! BTW Do you just drink wine and make music in that studio? If so, sign me up!
Yes, wine sometimes, and also we, obviously, do make music there.. Great if you buy the courses, they go way, really way deeper than the free UA-cam Videos:-)

I love the idea of being hugged by sound. I really love immersive experiences, so, that makes sense to say it that way
And it really is this: A good mix, even in stereo, is able to hug the listener:-). Share the video!:-)

Wow! Very well articulated. I never thought about it his way.
Great, spread the word!
You’re the most valuable channel when it comes to mixing knowledge, thank you!
Happy to see more content on your channel
Great to hear. But let others know about it, that would help to let the channel grow (and that would help me to produce more free content:-)
Always waiting for your new videos!!!. Thank you so much. Please, keep doing what you are doing
I will, if you (and others that like the channel) would push it a little bit more. Tell others about it, so that the channel can grow.

Is there more detail about how to apply this method in your mixing bible?Or maybe you could make separate tutorial about this?
