Although the homage to Chadwick at the beginning and end of the film was beautiful, the plot itself was very weak. Very little character development for characters new and old like Riri and Namour was a poor iteration of the classic character. The motivations of certain characters were very questionable. Plus, for a 2 hr 41 min movie, we didn't get to see the new Black Panther until the very end. I respect the fact that people enjoyed the movie, but to be honest, it wasn't for me.
Man I’m so glad to see someone who doesn’t think wakanda forever isn’t woke feminist garbage. I honestly feel like Shuri is a good example of how to write a female protagonist which is focusing on her as a person first. I love this movie!

This is exactly how to write a female protagonist. It feels like an origin story for Shuri, and one that actually builds an integral character that we can feel for. Movies that focused too much on writing a female protagonist and did not develop them enough are Captain Marvel and the Star Wars Sequels, but this movie far surpasses those and is probably my favorite MCU movie since Endgame.

The acting really stood out to me. Tenoch Hurta stole every scene he was in. Letitia Wright an Angela Bassett nailed the mourning, loss, grief. and especially Danai Guriras Okoye was incredible IMO.
As someone who wasn’t a huge fan of the first Black Panther and someone who has had very mixed opinions regarding phase 4, Wakanda Forever feels like a breathe of fresh air; i don’t feel like i’m watching just another Marvel project, i feel like i’m watching a FILM. I can see that there is a lot of love, care and passion behind this movie, which has been such a rarity in Phase 4. Despite the bad hand the creative team were dealt with Chadwick’s passing, i’m very impressed with what they made out of it.
Exactly it felt like an actual film with purpose on its own rather than something that was just leading into something else or looking forward to some bigger project. This is one of the few marvel films that can be viewed and enjoyed without the support of the universe itself. It tells a great story of grief and recovery which is universal.
@@CasualCat64How is it racist to dislike a movie? I like the character I just think the first movie was boring, villain was bad, and overall it was just forgettable. The most memorable black panther moments are from civil war and avengers.
I dealt with loss early on in 2021, it was even a sibling. Seeing Shuri going through the same pain as me, and still somehow managing not to give in to her anger broke me. This was a the first time I felt more than just a "light amusement" from a recent marvel thing.
I think she did give into her anger tho almost killing namor but I think that’s what made her a bet her a better character. She’s not perfect and I’m glad they portrayed that. Characters that are flawed are always the best.
I loved how the movie didn’t feel like to rush things out and let some things simmer, and the power of silence was utilized to deliver certain emotional scenes right from the Marvel logo. It’s like they trusted the audience to feel what they want to feel without holding their hands, and again these moments were slow yet solemn. Perfect for mourning.
I saw this film last night with my mom, brother, aunt and grandma and this film was everything it was supposed to be. Everything in this film was elite
Thank you for this. You love film and it shows every time you post. I loved just about everything Ryan Coogler wrote. Like you said. It was about the quiet moments. The faces. Okoye’s bridge battle is a prime example of that. Her character was so fierce in battle, I loved watching her have her moment on the bridge. No music, no cgi, just the sounds and expressions of a warrior refusing to submit to an unstoppable opponent. It feels like it has been such a long time since a superhero film has really put me on the edge of my seat with action and consequences.
I don't know man... in one hand I really did felt like there was a lot of care put into dealing with the death of T'challa, but in the other I can't help but feel like there really wasn't anything else that truly felt different from any other mcu movie. I guess you could say this is the best that phase 4 has to offer, but that really is not saying much. Rest in Power Chadwick Boseman.
Wakanda Forever is easily top 5 of the MCU in my opinion. Spectacle, character, emotional it’s everything that you could want and mind you this was a movie that had a lot against it after the loss of Chadwick and they absolutely nailed it
I literally agree with everything you said! From the visuals, the costumes to the emotions of the characters.. I really hope the future MCU movies learn from the serious tone of this film. I legit got teary during the ending.
It was really great. I especially love the fact that they made me like Namor, since ever since I was little I had a resentment towards him but they made him really likeable as a villain/antihero and a future hero, can't wait to see more of him and our new black panther
THey really did! Namor was so well done, giving him a lot of relatability was the correct choice. Cannot wait to see what they do with the character next!
Everything about Kukulkan and Mesoamerican culture were my favourite parts of the film. And so hard to pull off that well, considering this was all in the midst of grieving for Chadwick while being a big blockbuster movie at the same time. Masterwork from Coogler for sure.
@@ShadowSonic2 No. Namor stupidly gives a sample of the vibranium flower to Shuri, a super-scientist, and Wakanda is on the verge of war with Talocan. Shuri is a genius who can easily use the plant to make a poison against the Talocan, strengthen her Wakandan people or revive the heart shaped herb.
Black panther has always been one of my favorite avengers, mostly from previous media like avengers: earth mightiest heroes, and I admit, I’m not the biggest fan of the first movie. But this one has actually become one of my favorites in the Mcu in general. Shuri’s arc of grief and even faith hit me right in the feels. I found namor to be a pretty good villain even with the changes, and as someone who finds the iron heart character to be annoying, I actually liked riri more than I thought I would. I enjoyed the slower pace, becuase it felt like for once it wasn’t a rush to make the story happen.
You and me both! Wonderful experience, with such a mix of emotions - sadness, comedy, fun, hope, so much. Can't wait for the continuation of this story!
I haven’t seen this film yet but I want to see it even more now cause of this video! Just watched this on patreon the other day and it’s such a well presented and well spoken video. The editing is stellar like usual! I’m hyped to see you’re posting more often again!
Your take on the film has truly calmed my anti-marvel phase I was thinking after watching it and the experience from the films. It's funny how we've all got the Endgame high of looking for every detail, every Easter egg for the next phase but we forget to just enjoy the film. To enjoy the passion poured into a project that felt impossible to try, impossible to move on from. Again, it's not perfect, and it doesn't need to be. Everything can be improved with time and correction but was have is enough. This filmed paid homage to a person who seemed to embody the tropes of both the character he played, but also the ones we all looked up to in our own lives. He wasn't perfect, but he made us feel in a way I think very few people have had an impact on. I'm still in a limbo of whether I'll enjoy marvel again, but this has closed the lid on simple movie goer having enjoyed a good film. Thanks for the awesome take dude 🙏🏾 In the words of Stan Lee, ' 'Nuff said '.
It's really great I liked it alot. Probably my favorite marvel movie since Endgame. I didn't find it boring or slow paced it went by quickly in the best way possible and I felt it respected Chadwick really well.
@@mmaScholar99 I'd say it is definitely better than NWH, Spidey is my favourite hero and I loved the nostalgia of NHW. But it doesn't hold up well on repeat viewings. I'd say Shang Chi would be a much bigger rival for best film since Endgame
Shoutout to Bailey for making it so we can get pretty much a HiTop video every week 🙌🏻 and for also somehow still making great videos like The Batman one
I'm glad you enjoyed it, but it left me entirely cold. Yes, I agree with you that it was the best film of Phase 4, and yes I agree with you on a number of other points (costuming was better than the first film, the first act treating Namor as a force of nature or classic unseen movie monster was great), but I think it collapsed under the weight of the rewritten script, Disney's 'We'll charge you today for a better story tomorrow' mentality and other problems. Never for a moment did I believe the film would let Shuri 'burn the world', so her grief went from touching and powerful to boring as I waited for the eventual redemptive moment. Namor's people never felt like a true threat to Wakanda, even during the flooding. But that's going to be a problem of scale moving forward: we saw what Wakanda could do in Infinity War, and in this they had a handful of ships. Consistency matters.
I really liked it alot. No real complaints. 8.8/10. Only thing that I wish that I had was a Dr Doom post credit scene that links it to possibly doing DoomWar. They handled everything really, really well in every facet.
As a as a Puerto Rican and black male both brown and black I have never seen so many black and brown people together other than my family reunion. I love this film is not just a love letter and a tribute to chat with Boseman but I am so impressed with how the cast came together. I am a sucker for when you can tie in the real world events such as the metal Americans being overtaken by Spanish colonizers and bring it into my fantasy. I love the power scaling of name or his backstory didn’t feel rushed everything for organic. Everyone from the first film that is included in this film has grown.
My honest feelings? The first Black Panther was an above average film with INSANELY good themes, characters, feelings, and message. It also had a huge impact on world culture and tackled some heavy stigmas in our societies and interactions with each other. Solid hero movie, with a huge impact. Wakanda forever, was a near masterpiece. Riri's presences was a little shoe-horned, but otherwise, this is in fact the best phase 4 film, and one of the best Marvel Films in general. Everything was so RIGHT in so many ways.
This film was Beautiful! The story, the characters, action scenes, it was all executed beautifully. I just wished Chadwick was here to see it , this film was an amazing commemoration for him. RIP Chadwick boseman you will never be forgotten and you will always be the one true black panther 👑👑👑🎆🎇🎆🎇
I'm looking forward to Creed III a lot more after seeing this movie, and where Ryan Coogler took it. Phenomenal directing. I absolutely have to see more of his work
As a Mexican American who has immigrant patents this movie did something for me that I always wanted. A cool Mexican superhero. People especially white people and it’s not their fault because they are seeing it more as movie or another Marvel movie then a Cultural phenomenon. This movie gives us Mexicans someone to look up and see someone that looks like us. The movie I will admit might not be the best but for me it’s more than a movie.
I loved everything up until the last 20 or so minutes. Shuris character arc after the death of her mother felt incredibly rushed, and a continuing storyline with shuri leading both wakanda and not-Atlantis as killmongers spiritual successor would have been incredibly interesting.
I love how you say “the movie was amazing” and then you say “but the 2nd act was a slog and the 3rd was rushed. A moment of silence for those who thought this was the best phase 4 movie.
I still prefer No Way Home, but outside of that I can't argue with this easily being the best movie of phase 4 thus far. Wakanda Forever and Werewolf By Night were like palate cleansers after the crap we've gotten recently.
Ive been a bit depressed lately because of personal reasons and i just watched this movie 2 days ago and i feel sorta better. I loved every bit of it and i was surprised when shuri was less funny and more serious, Its like when spiderman (toms version) was serious in the end of nwh. Sure it had some flaws like with when namor attacked wakanda because the cgi in some parts was a bit off but other than that the movie was almost perfect and the message of hatred and revenge hit me. I left the cinemas feeling good and i felt hope for the new movies that might come from the mcu. The only problem is that not everyone gets it, not everyone understands the meaning of the movie. For example my family said it was garbage and a waste of time and i just didn't understand them. These are just my thoughts and every time you upload it puts a smile on my face :)
THIS MOVIE HAD CHARACTERS AND FEELINGS!!! I LOVED THAT, I FEEL LIKE THAT IS SO UNUSUAL. also the villain was silly, and dumb comic booky but it was embraced and done well!
There is not a single movie that HiTop Films does not like in the Marvel Universe. A bad movie is a masterpiece, a very bad movie is a disappointment. It is very sad to see that a movie with so many plot holes and such horrendous writing as Wakanda Forever gets a video with a title "The Best of Phase 4," when it is one of the worst, if not the worst movies in it. If this is a masterpiece, then what is She-Hulk? A solid 9/10?
Nothing you said made any sense, he doesn't like the majority of the films in the MCU. And explain to me again, how liking Wakanda Forever made you think that somehow he would enjoy She-Hulk? where the fuck is the correlation to that?

Ppl who hate on this movie, i feel like they are just grieving the loss of chawick. I hope they will come to appreciate this movie when they have finish their morning. I really like this movie. I appreciate coogler telling the tale of the aftermath of a hero's death. Superman only half counted bc he came back. This gives shuri the chance to really grow and mature n move on instead of regress bc "Yey, i saved t'challa!"
To me I just see black Panther as another predictable generic and mediocre superhero movie. I think too many people have been blinded by the love for Chadwick.
This is probably the BEST "solo" film of entire MCU outside of Avengers. Because it is not just a fun product or a commercial for toys, it is art filled with soul and a message. A lot of its cinematrography was outright outstanding, quiet moments impactful and soundtrack was cherry to my ears. And Angela Bassett, her outfits, posture and raw emotions were BREATHTAKING. And Shuri was making me emotional all the time. Really piece of art this is.
I think it has some great acting, the bridge fight was the most tense fight in the mcu. But they criminally underutilized M’baku and the conflict with Namor felt like a rehash of both the first black panther, and Aquaman.
I absolutely agree. I went in the biggest hater but came out absolutely stunned. Everything was amazing from the visuals to the action. I actually teared up three times. It's a masterpiece
The movie was ok. The first black panther was ok it wasn’t a masterpiece but it was a marvel movie. In this movie I never got I never really got emotional for the characters. And the cgi was mid like a lot of the mic movies.
I definitely think Wakanda Forever had the most character of the Phase 4 films so far, the writing was all very fitting, a bit cheesy at times but that’s the MCU nowadays, the story they kind of had to write for T’challa felt off to me but that’s probably just because I don’t want to accept Chadwick is gone. I will watch it again once it releases on D+ so I can get a better understanding of it as a film
Even as someone who doesn't hate phase 4 as much as some other people (definitely the weakest phase, but still more hit and miss than out and out bad, I'd say), Wakanda Forever absolutely blows it all out of the water (no pun intended). The characters felt real, there were moral shades of gray all throughout the movie, the world building for Talokatlantis was great without fully dominating the movie and saving plenty of threads for later (casually name dropping Namora and Attuma, I see you) *HERE BE SPOILERS* Probably my favorite thing about this is the fact that, thanks the heavens, there's no asspull third act villain that unites the two sides. I was so sure that was gonna happen, it's the easiest way (and most narratively unsatisfying, but ya know...) to make people realize Namor and his people aren't so bad after all, right? But no, they let Namor be the antagonist throughout the whole movie. They allowed us to understand and empathize with his character while also letting him do some pretty dark shit like killing Queen Ramonda. Some have asked if he can truly be redeemed after this, but I mean, come on, Loki's sitting right there in the phase 4 lineup. If Dragon Ball can have half their heroes be guilty of messed up stuff, then Marvel can too.
I was worried they were going to have Attuma overthrow Namor and become the final villain and Namor would have to work with Shuri to defeat him. So glad they didn't do that.
@@ShadowSonic2 Yeah, when his name was first mentioned, my first reaction was "uh oh," but fortunately they're more than likely saving that for a later story.
Why are people keep going under other peoples comments for saying Black Panther Wakanda Forever was trash??? Just leave them alone and let them have an opinion.
I really loved Wakanda Forever. Definitely up there with Loki as the best of Phase 4 IMO. There were some gripes, but overall I really loved the movie. Like the visual effects were really fantastic compared to other MCU outings lately, and the characters were really well rounded. Letitia and Ryan did a really good job in turning Shuri into an awesome character, using her traits of her arrogance and intelligence as coping mechanisms for the death of her brother and mother’s death. Though I didn’t gel with the colonizer plot, I know that part of the film wasn’t made for me. Namor was Killmonger but BETTER. Loved this performance and the story. Overall, great film.
@@hazeplazs3599 No no, not that part. I mostly meant just the kinda retreading of the same “war against everyone else” kinda thing. It was more overt with Killmonger’s motivations and stuff, Namor did it a lot smoother and I feel he was the better villain, but the overall war like that just felt weird to me? Then again, I’m not the movie’s ideal audience (white teenager XD)
@@wyattrose5511 I’m white and 21 lol I think we fall into the ideal audience😂 BP was my hero too regardless if he was black. Don’t be insecure about being white. Our ancestors have done terrible things and someone another has lived as long as Namor would have seen all of it. We just gotta accept it
As much as we miss Chadwick, the legacy he left behind not only as an actor but as a symbol; a character in the lore of the grander MCU, will remain unprecedented. His portrayal as King T'Challa will never be forgotten but remembered for generations to come. Rest In Power, our King 👑
I don't think Boseman would be happy that they killed T'Challah in the same exact way as he died in real-life. Boseman and T'Challah both died from a mysterious disease and they kept it secret. Boseman would've definitely wanted T'Challah to either live on (re-cast) or to die as a triumphant or tragic hero. Nah, T'Challah died from natural disease in the first five minutes of the movie. Lame.
@@ShadowSonic2 Ledgers death wasn't exploited in the Dark Knight trailers or storytelling. But, go ahead, explain your schlocky case. More details please. Did Joker die in the same way as Hedger? Was their a Joker Jr? Was the Dark Knight one long funeral service for Ledger/Joker? No.😌

@@TimDaco I'm glad that you like it more, but Wakanda Forever reused a lot of story beats from Black Panther and other movies. T'Challah vowed revenge that he would kill Zemo for murdering his father, but he let him go. Shuri vowed revenge for the murder of her mother, but she let Namor go. Killmonger gets stabbed and begins to die because, hey, it's a serious injury. Shuri gets impaled by a thick spear (all the way through the body) and she's like "Tis but a scratch. Spiderman flippidy flipty time."
The flim to me has one of the highest praises: "it's a movie". It stands. A movie should watched on its own and make sense. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't like the final battle with the choreography in all stages but, I mean, that's very fixable. The emotion is the hard part and that was there.
I’m seeing this film next week. I am so damn excited. This movie sounds like the perfect one for me. Phase 4 had its highs and lows. I’m really hoping this one slaps as Black Panther is a favourite of mine, Civil War and Black Panther 1 where amazing and some of my favourites in the MCU. They felt like they had passion and love poured in and Boseman. Boseman was fantastic. He made so much of us happy. Put a reassuring hand on our shoulder and told us to keep going. RIP Chadwick Boseman. Wakanda Forever. 💜
The Black Panther films really are some of the best films of the MCU and Ryan Coogler is one of the best MCU directors. Wakanda Forever was so great and you're right, the film feels so distinctive compared to the other films of Phase 4 even Spider-Man: No Way Home (still love the film though). It was a beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman and I loved Shuri's journey and I can't wait for her to continue T'Challa's legacy as Black Panther. Spider-Man: No Way Home and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are only two of my favorite films of Phase 4.
Personally it was too long with too many things going on to keep up. Love the idea but the execution could have been better. The acting, visuals/soundtrack was great. This movie might be the best of phase 4 honestly. However, the FIRST Black Panther was AMAZING because of the characters and the script as you mentioned.
Marvel had 2 choices with how they handle the movie that addresses the matter of Chadwick's passing: Either knock it out of the park with class, respectability and skill or get crucified for essentially taking a dump on Chadwick's memory. Marvel are not up on the cross. This movie is among the best in the MCU. This was a tender and heartfelt tribute to Chadwick in our real world and T'Challa in-universe. It dealt with the consequences of such an event of the man himself passing, the events established in prior movies, expanded upon the MCU without it feeling like an infodump that the audience is forced to learn and was ultimately a movie about moving forward, even when the world inflicts so much pain on oneself. I hate that this movie exists because the only way it has been able to is through Chadwick's passing but despite that, we have managed to get a beautiful movie that worked as its own movie and as tribute to a man taken too soon from an unfair cause.
I thought it was impractical and extremely overrated. Superhero films are being milked dry and this is no exception. Literally cookie cutter territory. It just sucks that one of the biggest draws for the movie was rip Boseman. Imo it didnt do him justice, and Disney just wanted your sympathy money.
@@ShadowSonic2 The Batman wasn't good either, anyone that has a decent grasp on story structure and "How To Not Put A Ton Of Plot Holes In The Story" will tell you. Especially in this recent capeshit , Wackanda Forever.
I admire the love for Shuri by the director. He takes this little side character and turns her in a fully fletched, 3 dimensional character. He gives the opportunity to feel with her and cheer for her. And the best part is: it doesn't matter that she is a girl. I've become bored and annoyed with depictions like captain marvel and in recent times doctor who. They all make it a character trade for the main role "to be a woman" and they are powerful for a woman. This film does it nearly perfect and needs to be applauded for that.

Perfect for mourning.
right? the theatre was dead quiet on that scene and when someone was reminiscing the death

Awe thank you
Thank you for this.
Agreed! For a moment I got that “no one is safe” feeling like I did watching the walking dead. Lowkey thought she would kick the bucket

I agree with you. It felt lacking to me.
Not agreed
Wakanda Forever is easily top 5 of the MCU in my opinion. Spectacle, character, emotional it’s everything that you could want and mind you this was a movie that had a lot against it after the loss of Chadwick and they absolutely nailed it
The writing had too many problems. It's not even close to top 5. It's probably middle of the pack, maybe a little bit below.

I literally agree with everything you said! From the visuals, the costumes to the emotions of the characters.. I really hope the future MCU movies learn from the serious tone of this film. I legit got teary during the ending.
Yeah lets hope Phase 5 picks up on some of the great qualities of this and suhers in an even better phase next!
Too many problems, far from a masterwork. Coogler kinda choked. Wakanda Forever was nowhere near as good as Black Panther.
@@sunnysied713 It was better than "The Batman"

Mannnn that Earth's Mightiest heroes is GOOD!!
Genuinely think this movie is the best thing the MCU has put out since like the first Guardians
Man, I loved this movie. What an experience.
You and me both! Wonderful experience, with such a mix of emotions - sadness, comedy, fun, hope, so much. Can't wait for the continuation of this story!

Don't understand this guy's hype, it's like someone paid him for this review. The best of phase 4? Rather the most boring
Thanks for the awesome take dude 🙏🏾

I absolutely have to see more of his work
Absolutely. I personally love this movie and is one of the strongest movies they have ever done
Honestly I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would
THIS MOVIE HAD CHARACTERS AND FEELINGS!!!
A solid 9/10?
thank you, exactly.
Nothing you said made any sense, he doesn't like the majority of the films in the MCU. And explain to me again, how liking Wakanda Forever made you think that somehow he would enjoy She-Hulk? where the fuck is the correlation to that?

@@DestroyerThedefender he made a video on Multiverse of Madness, Raimi’s WORST movie up to date and almost called it genius. He made a “Falcon and Winter Soldier” review, although the show is a bad take at trying to show the problems of the American politics. Anyone with base education at film studies (I’m not even talking BA. I’m talking like a minor college level) would understand that falcon and soldier is a bad show with a lot of bad writing, terrible CGI and a lot of plot holes.

@@literallyvergil1686 Iron Man 1 is just ok.
I think it has some great acting, the bridge fight was the most tense fight in the mcu. But they criminally underutilized M’baku and the conflict with Namor felt like a rehash of both the first black panther, and Aquaman.
But I still think Namor is well acted

The characters felt real, there were moral shades of gray all throughout the movie, the world building for Talokatlantis was great without fully dominating the movie and saving plenty of threads for later (casually name dropping Namora and Attuma, I see you)
*HERE BE SPOILERS*
Probably my favorite thing about this is the fact that, thanks the heavens, there's no asspull third act villain that unites the two sides.

Are you referring to Martin Freeman’s part? I think it was just setting up for Thunder Bolts mostly
I don't think Boseman would be happy that they killed T'Challah in the same exact way as he died in real-life. Boseman and T'Challah both died from a mysterious disease and they kept it secret. Boseman would've definitely wanted T'Challah to either live on (re-cast) or to die as a triumphant or tragic hero. Nah, T'Challah died from natural disease in the first five minutes of the movie. RIP Chadwick Boseman. Wakanda Forever. 💜
Imagine if Taika was in charge of this film 😅
Well, he did a wonderful job with "JoJo Rabbit" so...
The way you cut the Mickey Mouse segment was perfect
Am I the only one who didn’t really care for this movie?
Really glad this movie was good. Chadwick will never be forgotten.
It was a good movie , shuris arc was absolutely incredible
The fact that the last Phase 4 movie was a masterpiece makes me mad because WHY WASN'T THIS PHASE THIS GOOD SINCE THE BEGINNING?!?!
If you take Ironheart and Ms Hydra out of the movie, maybe one can make it work… Didn’t like it as it was
Marvel had 2 choices with how they handle the movie that addresses the matter of Chadwick's passing:
Either knock it out of the park with class, respectability and skill or get crucified for essentially taking a dump on Chadwick's memory.
I will never forget the fear I felt when I heard the Sirens making everyone jump out of the ship.
I thought it was impractical and extremely overrated. Superhero films are being milked dry and this is no exception. Literally cookie cutter territory. It just sucks that one of the biggest draws for the movie was rip Boseman. Imo it didnt do him justice, and Disney just wanted your sympathy money.
It was better than "The Batman"

Lovely video as always
I loved this Film, a Perfect Love Letter to Chadwick Boseman. Rest in Power King
This is the most access media type video you’ve ever done.
