I never expected this video to hit 100 views, let alone 1 million views! Thanks everyone :)
Sonicfan129 thanks g for the upload really important to us here at Uptown Records 💯👌🏻 Employer here 😎

Sonicfan129 AND THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS LET'S GO RAY
Yeah you did it🔥
Jamie Foxx earned every bit of that Oscar.
Fuckin' A he did!
Jamie Foxx one of the best acters ever is an understatement
Every!!!
Amen
Amen brother 🙏🏼
The pinnacle of acting.
Jamie literally became Ray, he blew my 12 year old mind when I first saw this.
Hey, I was 12 years old when I first saw this too in 2004/2005
Wait, that is not Ray?
This is a hollywood movie?
Wow!
Ha I was 14
Man I was 7 years old watching this. He had me listening to ray charles on the psp. 😂 shit crazy
I'm 12 right now so yeah
I don't care where you come from or what you do, Jamie Foxx nailed the holy shit out of this role. He embodied everything about Ray Charles from the voice, the movements, his genius, every damn thing. Most certainly a well deserved Oscar to a brilliant multi talented man.
That's my nigga
That's not Foxx singing that's actually audio of Ray, even though Jamie Foxx can infamously to an incredible Ray Charles impression
@@abdulrahaman7722 watchu mean infamously?
Agree 100 percent. He’s one of the best actors. He also was nominated for collateral that year and that’s one of my favorite movies of all time.
Hell yes.... many artists tried to act the life’s of legends but Jamie Foxx bailed that sucker on the head.... best of the best
The best thing about this scene is.... this actually happened.
wait really?
Wouju Lol yeah! He had to improvise so he just came up with this song to finish the contract.
MCP/ChronicBuzz That Was The Best Thing About The Movie. Each Song Was Shown How It Developed. When Jamie Turned The Mic So The Crowd Could Hear Him Clearly. That Was Actually Done By Ray In Concert In London
MCP/ChronicBuzz Cant Watch This Enough
This is how you know which artist to show respect to. The ones that can do what you can't do. Like make a hit song on the fly.
Frank Sinatra once said "He's (Ray Charles) the only real genius we have in this business."
He definitely had a point on that one
A good idea not apart of your comment I know dumb but how about a biopic of Frank sinatra
Oh damn!
@limited access and he can promptly leave
Stevie and prince after him
Ray knew his band would catch on. I'm convinced. You don't take this kind of a leap as a leader unless you know your people can adapt.
Access and I love when the trumpets come in
So you're telling me he just came up with the song on the spot!!!? Props to his crew too for going with it!! Legend.
Not only that, but What i'd say is officially considered as one of the top 100 best song of all time.
An artist ALWAYS have unheard songs.. the crew just never heard it!
...thats why hes the genuis!
That is what you call creative GENIUS!!!
12 bar blues my man. it's in their blood. ;)
My dad taught me to play "What'd I say" when I was 7 and attending classical piano classes. Every time my piano teacher left me to practice some classical tune she returned and saw me playing this and she got mad :) When I was graduating the music school 7 years later my teacher asked me to play this for the final graduation concert instead of playing the piece by Frederic Chopin :)The audience got crazy. Miss my dad.
Do what comes natural...story from the Heart, thanks for sharing.
You are amazing
❤️❤️❤️
That's a happy story thanks for sharing as well
Teacher didn't like you disobeying them teaching you variety, but wanted you to express yourself in the big moment
The subtlety of Jamie turning the mic cause he’s “blind”, brilliant
Netflix needs to put this movie on !
•Tee Mariposa• it is actually in Netflix. The name's Ray
@@realtalk49 not anymore
I just watched it
Mrs Navy, name of movie??
@@jordan4003 Ray
Foxx didn’t become Ray, he was Ray. What a performance!
1:54 - I love how Fathead caught on to what Ray was playing and explaining it to other musicians.
He’s literally the only one in the crew who stayed no matter what, even when they faught
Lady: where can I buy this record
Guy: it doesn't exist
why is that so funny
Jamie Foxx was BORN to play this role. PERIOD.
At 1:02 when he started to sing but the voice was low so he had to flip the microphone to where the speakers are at so he can be heard... It was an extremely small detail but it was well accounted for since they're using real recordings of Ray Charles singing, so however the recordings are when they use it, it's what it is without altering it. So instead of changing it or doctoring it, they created the scene a certain way to fit the original recording that made total sense... How Brilliant Was That?!?!
Damn right!
Brother… the song itself is sung by jamie foxx. He‘s got a great voice.
Jammie murdered ths movie 🔥 🔥
Damn, Jamie Foxx encapsulated Ray Charles so well
Aaron Krupp Berry Very Well
I'm so glad Jamie Fox won an academy award for his portrayal of Ray. Outstanding!
He disappeared into this role. It’s pure magic
Pure magic. Gal in the middle is intoxicating.
Arguably the greatest biopic impression ever!
For Ray to come up with this song off the top of his head in 30 seconds explains 1 reason why he was a "Genius"!
This is an original freestyle.
That...... Is very true
One of the best freestyles I've ever heard
0:40 he pushes the mic out of the way
1:02 he starts to sing, but the mic is backwards
1:04 he flips the mic to the right position
Now THAT'S great attention to detail
This movie is a masterpiece
Larry Wolfgang he approaches to the mic, I saw that too😂, but before he flips the mic you can listen his voice Weaker than after. After this I can say that he is not miming anything right? I would say that you would agree with me
Actually Foxx mimes all the songs in the movie, but yeah, the mic thing was a pretty cool touch,
Larry Wolfgang he mimics all the songs. Ray Charles original version has that weak voice part. That's why they put the mic trick in the movie. Still beautifully put.
its from Ray Charles Live in concert released 1965
True. But anyway I miss the first line in full power. I checked several times but haven't found any better version...
This is next level free styling, my guy composed a whole song with lyrics just like that.
This film gave me a deeper love for music than any other film.
i agree 199%
"this scene is an example of how a mind of a genius works"
That song just goes to show how good Ray and his crew were. Didn’t even know what he was gonna say but made it all work to create a hit right there on stage.
More like he had to fill up 20 minutes to get that contracted agreed upon payment
That why the song call “what I’d say”
One of the most "powerful" films I've ever seen - "Ray". Even if you are not a Ray Charle's fan, you will find a great film here. No angel, but a lot of respect for him.
My respect for this man truly knows no bounds. Jamie did a fantastic job portraying him.
So this is apparently a true story and to come up with a banger like this on the fly is beyond amazing!!!!
That's an actual recording of Ray Charles performing this song , Jamie Foxx mimicked every key stroke and movement to match the recording .
Is it on youtube? Do you think you could link it?
ua-cam.com/video/QINL1mXa1Vo/v-deo.html This is recorded as an album: "Ray Charles: Live in Concert"
And a great musician

Jamie took lessons from Ray when they went through prep and from what I got Ray made fun of him all the time :D
There's a vid on yt somewhere^^
“ Tell your mama, tell your pa, I’m gonna send you back to Arkansas🎵👍🎹”
My father showed me this movie when I was about 9 and introduced me to Ray Charles as a whole and its one of my favorite bonding moments we had. They were few and far due to his PTSD and legal issues with him and my mother. But this reminds me even though he was a complicated man he still tried and cared.
His music sounds like what happiness feels like
You know someone’s a true artist when they can come up with a hit song right there on the spot!
Everything about this movie is Amazing
The Music
The Direction
The Performances
The Cinematography
The Script
The Production
It’s a good time but an amazing story about one of the most influential man on music and the world. His genius and talent are legendary
Amazing how odin was helping ray with recording his music
Jamie Foxx is an amazing musician, actor, director, comedian, rapper and song writer. God bless you Jamie Foxx and your million talents!
As a little kid I thought jamie foxx was actually ray Charles that's how much he killed this role
Only Ray Charles can make up a song out of thin air and be a success Wow. Base on a True story.
I love how the Raelettes and Fathead had such good chemistry with Ray. It's like Ray knows exactly when Fathead is is going to come in with the brass, same thing with the Raelettes. It really was something special a true American national treasure.
Still can't get over just how awesome this performance was
When and individual can make up a song, from one take (either in a club, recording studio, etc.), witb no sheet of music and it becomes a hit, that is pure God given talent. All of Ray Charles' songs are a hit. We will never possibly see another individual like this again 😇
Even though this was acted this was a fckin great version
Watching Jamie Foxx do that made my uncle go crazy it brought tears to my eyes how cool 😎 he did that.
This scene was created to show that RAY made this classic right up on the spot it went on to make The Rolling Stones list of the 500 BEST SONGS EVER MADE IT WAS 10TH BEST OVERALL!!!!!
The fact he glued his eyes shut. He’s a great Actor most would never be this committed.
One of the coldest scenes in cinematic music bio history....
Jamie Foxx, as Ray, is one of if not the greatest performances ever.
He even gluer his eyes shut.
This is easily my favorite scene in the entire movie. Creating an all-time hit on the fly like that. That Genius Stuff Right There.
I can’t even play half this song. And I have BOTH MY EYES!!!
Jamie Foxx is truly amazing
Ray Charles. A man who could make up a song out thin air. And it ended up being one of his best known songs. Now THATS a performer
The best biopic ever. Jamie foxx killed it. He deserved his Oscar. Great tribute to the genius of soul.
I don't know any other singer who could just create a song out of thin air. Genius.
Ray and Ahmet Ertegun were excellent together...Atlantic Days.
Yeah! Alright alright! 💃 🎹
This was my favorite part of the movie, seeing genuine creation of music is amazing. I know it’s rare and this is a movie but even so it’s beautiful
easy one of the best scenes in the movie!
Jamie Foxx IS Ray Charles. What a multi-talented man, wow.
A musical genius! I wish the original song was sped up like this.
If only ray could have seen how much he rocked these crowds I'm from Saint Lucia and loving it
Oh I'm sure he knew ^^
The man composed this song...on the spot!
This movie was great I loved it. Rip Ray Charles Robinson.
You know when you have an empty case
No DVD in it…. Mine. Movie Ray. Most disappointed I’ve ever been to loose a dvd . Brilliant movie. Brilliant subject.
Magic performance by Jamie
Jamie is so talented
At no point in the film I thought he wasn't ray awesome.
They ought to build Jamie Foxx an statue in honor of RAY CHARLES,,HE cross all the T'S and dotted all the I's on this one right here,,hands down
Jamie and Ray had some serious chemistry for this film, damnit they even look alike😂
Well that wasn't just tearing the house down - that was straight up murder!
Incredible.
Jamie Foxx's best performance in cinema. He amazingly turned into Ray.
When life gives you lemons, be like Ray Charles and make a ton of lemonade 🙏🏽
That’s why you learn which Keys go with each each other , my greatest challenge in music !
I have a crush on the tall backup singer. so damn pretty. so charismatic.
Renee Wilson... i followed her on social media after this movie.
Amazing 😍
The lady on the table gets me everytime ,boy i tell ya. She was working it out. Go ahead.😊
This is one of my favorite movies!! ❤️ 😍 🤩!!!
Ray Charles by Jamie Foxx is so awesome, I loved this movie. This is one of my favorite scenes to sing along to!! 😊😊❤
His best role ever!
In egality with Django
That was the last song in the book Ray 😂😂😂
The second time I watched this film I actually forgot I was watching Jamie fox playing Ray Charles, he played him so damn well. Ray Charles was a musical genius, and Jamie fox was amazing in this.
RAY CHARLES WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST HANDS DOWN.
This was A Legendary Moment Think about it "Where Can I get that Record from"It doesn't exist yet"
Everyone in there heard this song before it was Recorded..Out of Sight...
This was Song a he pulled of stored Data Banks in Memory..JAMIE FOXX OR SHOULD I SAY ERIC BISHOP YOU DESERVED AND PLAYED WITH SO CLASS..THANK YOU...
jamie foxx was born for this role
Jamie Foxx did a fantastic job in portraying this man. He embodied everything about Ray Charles from his voice, his mannerisms, and the smallest things he does. Even Ray Charles himself was impressed with the way he brought his life story to life. He most definitely earned that Oscar.
Watching the interview on the Howard Stern show it wasn't actually Jamie singing he said he wanted Ray's voice but Jamie was playing the howitzer and piano.
2:20 best part.
i was 8 when i saw this movie for the first time, me and mt grandpa watched it on cable a couple years after it came out and i didnt realize how good of a job jamie did until after i actually looked up ray charles. i was like “holy shit ur telling me theyre two different people?”😂
I remember watching Ray Charles on a black and white TV perform this song (not necessarily the one shown in this video). Anyway it was during a Bar-B-Q that a bunch of Army military families were having. In the afternoon, after everyone had eaten, the adults were chatting and the kids messing around, and the TV started playing Ray Charles playing this song. I kid you not, everything stopped and everyone watched this song. I do not remember the show, but I remember the impact that this song had.
Rest In Peace to the great RAY CHARLES 😔💯
Ray was the happiest person ever existed
The end part of the scene in the studio with Atlantic president Ahmet Ertegun and producer Jerry Wexler is also authentic in that they eventually decided to issue the song as a single with half the song on each side. Instead of shortening it they came up with a creative and somewhat weird solution. Having to flip the single over mid-song after all was way better than issuing a watered down version of the song. "I'm telling you, that's a hit!"
Classic. Thanks Ray and Jimie
Just do what I do do What I say pure genius
If I did something like this i'm pretty sure I would forget the lyrics the next day, Ray is a legend
I just feel that he was real one 😌❤️🤩 what a artist man you really deserve more than Oscar
This is one of the best bio-pics I've ever seen. And I'm a historian, I've seen a few more of these than most folks.
For absolutely capturing everything I know about the subject, 'Ray' has only two other equals: Daniel Day Lewis in 'Lincoln' and Bruno Ganz in 'Der Untergang/Downfall'. I give those latter two movies a very slight edge because I will never think of Abraham Lincoln and Adolf Hitler without hearing Lewis' and Ganz' voice respectively. The key difference is that Ray Charles left a full and vibrant record of his voice and mannerisms at almost every stage of his career. That made Jamie Foxx's job just that much harder. But lawd have mercy what a job he did with it!
I love this song
I wish all live performances would be like this
Raw music making at its finest...
Goosebumps!
