Power Carving A Bird - Making An American Woodcock
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лют 2020
- In this video I carve a mother and baby American Woodcock from a piece of tupelo.
This piece is power carved using a Dremel 3000 with an assortment of bits. The texture is added with a ceramic bit in the Dremel and by wood burning.
The paint is applied using thin washes of Liquitex acrylic.
Base - 2 washes of Gesso and 3 washes of Raw Sienna
Bill - Light Portrait Pink/Burnt Umber base and Burnt Umber washes
Chick - Yellow Ochre/Titanium White/Raw Sienna base and Burnt Umber details
Wings - washes of Burnt Umber/Titanium White/Paynes Gray
Dark Feather Details - Burnt Umber/Paynes Gray
Gray Feather details - Ivory Black/Titanium White
Chest highlights - Transparent Mixing White/Raw Sienna
The head was washed with Unbleached Titanium before the details were added then all but the chest was washed with Burnt Umber/Burnt Sienna over the details.

Awesome job. Thanks for sharing.
One world "Awesome" 👍
Great video. Love watching great talent
God damn, talented, wish I had yer carving instincts
Jeez incredible work
WOW!
Absolutely gorgeous
You are KILLING it with these videos! Amazing work ( and yeah you've always been good at carving) but these new video skills 👌
Thanks man! I have been trying to make small improvements on both fronts. The new camera really helps!
You do such beautiful work. It's a joy to watch!😀
Marty Rose thank you!!
👏👏👏💯
Very talented, you make look easy
Your attention to detail with the paint job is quite evident. Nice work!
timothy holt thank you! That one had me stressing!!
Wow! Great video. That tureen out amazing. Such a tricky bird to get right with the colours and patterns but you did a fantastic job! Really enjoyed this ✌🏼
Thank you! This one was definitely a challenge!
Great work man, amazing detail in it. Always impressed how deft a hand you have with that dremel.
P.S. You could teach your brother a thing or two about video production. Ain't sayin, just sayin haha
Timothy MacDonald thanks man!! I am looking forward to when I save up for a micro motor. They put a Dremel to shame.
Video production has been an evolution plus I just invested in a camera.
Adorei,, bom Trabalho 👏🏻
Ricardo Mendes obrigado!!
Really cool, well done!
Thank you!
Amazing skills Sir
Thank you!
Great work as usual Matt, nice edit!
Burton's Attic thank you! This was a fun one.
Great video. Smooth visuals and audio to match. Seamless. And the final product is un-real in its reality.
Thank you!! I put a lot of work into this one so it is nice to hear the feedback.
Beautiful work! Do you ever use two dimensional reference?
Thank you! I collect a ton of photos before I start. Often, like in this case, one photo gives me the inspiration for the piece. I follow a bunch of photographers for that reason.
Proves you don’t haft to Woodburn the entire bird to get brilliance. Painting feathers still live on lol
Such detail! About how many hours does a project like this take for you to complete? I'm just getting started with carving. Thanks!
This probably took 30 hours. I am terrible about keeping track.
You have to be related to Audubon. Amazing gift you have sir! Are any of your works for sale? Favorite bird-- Carolina Wren.
Thank you! I currently don’t have anything available. I am hoping to do a few new projects this winter.
@@MCBWoodworks Would you consider accepting a commission for a piece? Would love to have a Carolina Wren done by you. Let me know your thoughts on the matter. Maybe we could make it happen. Thanks. Mike the wood turner.
@@MikeM-sc4tx I was a kid the last time I did one so it would be a fun one to revisit. I don’t like the pressure of commissions but if I do one I will let you know.
@@MCBWoodworks I completely understand, believe me I am a woodturner not for a living but for a hobby. I’m retired and get requests all the time to do this, that, and the other thing. People know i don’t charge anything for my creations , so i simply tell them i turn what i want when i want because i know the next question will be when can it be ready? Such is life eh Thanks for the chat. Smooth sailing for you in everything you do.
I’ve never been first.
can you make a hummingbird out of wood
I have made hummingbirds on the past.
