First death was due to dehydration. Water drops fast and does quick health damage. You can tell it wasn't due to the cold because your "feels like" was at 0c and your bed warmth bonus was 5c. Hydration was your only risk factor.
timberwolf mountain and forlorn muskeg are two of the hardest spawn locations on interloper, espesh when you have no idea what your doing or where your going. on interloper there are no firearms, but you can craft a bow and arrows(you'll need scrap metal, birch saplings, maple saplings, these need to cure), make teas, make all the teas, once youve made teas you dont need to put them on the fire, but place them around the fire, it frees up the fire place slots for cooking and making water, also the longer your in interloper the colder it gets. stay on voyager, learn where the buildings are, learn where the forges are. build up a routine of doing things, then when your ready tackle interloper.
As a Canadian nothing freaked me out more than hearing that haunting call of a loon in the dark of a winter's night. Loons are a migratory bird species that only comes north in summer. Perhaps its a wendigo trying mimicry to lure an unsuspecting Splitsie?
Well, the first 44 mins went exactly how I expected it to go knowing the types of games you play. Haha your chat hates you for suggesting interloper for your first go. I'll watch more later but this is my all time favorite game (survival) now. Glad to see you playing it. Even after you become accustomed to the game mechanics it's by no means an 'easy' game. Good luck and look forward to seeing you survive more than a day!!
Until it was mentioned about the feather in the corner, I thought it was an auto save icon... Also, this game is more "What happens when you jump out of a plane with nothing, in the worst winter weather in the most northern mountainous regions of Canada" simulator
This game is as much about time management as anything. You should always be looking at how long any particular action will take. There's also a lot of waiting out the weather, if you go outside and your temperature starts dropping rapidly, consider hunkering down for a couple hours to see if things get better.
The Long Dark is one of my favorite games of the past decade. There is something deeply satisfying about the experience in general. It teaches you to be cautious, and enjoy every little victory that comes your way. Your first coat is a godsend, your first wolf kill - a triumph, your first trek across the wind-scarred wastes - an absolute journey to rival the Odyssey. Its been described as a "lonely" game, but I would compare it more to a healthy solitude - being alone without it feeling awful. When you aren't freezing to death or being mauled by a bear, the soundscape of a cold winter night by a crackling fire is one of the most peaceful and thoughtful experiences I've encountered in a game. It's almost... therapeutic in a way. I highly suggest to everybody that has even a passing interest in the game to try it at least once, preferably on "Voyageur". It's a very beautiful experience. Don't spoil yourself with maps or anything, however, as a lot of the fun is forging your own path through a world you are unfamiliar with. Unrelated to my rambling - That is an absolutely MASSIVE timberwolf pack you find there at the cannery. It was really fun watching you figure everything out there!
I have been waiting for you to finally play this. You did very well for your first few runs. Not surprised with your survival game playlist. Looking forward to seeing you master this game. The wolf car alarm had me rolling.
Glad you enjoyed it, I'm also glad I finally got around to playing it - I'm looking forward to starting to feel some mastery in it after a bunch more deaths 😅
Welcome to the Long Dark! I have loved this game for years and am always glad to see someone new learning how to play. I thought it was hilarious when you tried to kill the bear by throwing rocks at it😂 Voyageur is probably best for you right now, and stalker is fun when you have more experience as it's hard but not insanely difficult like interloper is. Some tips from someone who regularly plays stalker mode: Always travel with 3-4 bandages to stop bleeding just in case of bear or wolf attack. Do everything you can to avoid wolves, bears, or moose until you have a rifle and ammo. Flares keep wolves away when lit. If something does attack you, get away from it immediately since it can attack you again, when you're safe apply bandages, and then use antiseptic or the hanging moss to treat the infection risk. Overall, avoid wolves, bears, and moose until you're comfortable using a rifle! I don't usually comment on UA-cam but I hope this helps! I'm subscribing now and I look forward to seeing you master this game!
Found your video in my recommended. I am sitting screaming at the TV that you aren't checking the glove compartment in the cars. All the time you are strolling around collect sticks without realizing you don't have matches. LOL At least you have kept your cool.
I was well aware of what the warning meant, though wasn't certain if it was a chance based thing so might get away with crossing anyway, by the looks of it there's a point where you'll fall in no matter what
You are the second Australian UA-camr I've watched playing this game (and I've been wanting to watch a playthrough because the story kinda intrigued me); the first was Magz.
Good job. Might want to think about reparing/improving your clothes and reading book anytime your just waiting near a fire during the day. And any crafting.
The wolves were most of what I remembered from my brief play years ago, seems like they particularly like certain areas - at least one of which I found later on...
This game could have been phenomenal if they just avoided the story mode. The writer was far less talented than they thought and sandbox wasn't developed at the same pace as it's early access.

Always fun to see something new, especially when we are learning with you. Thanks.

Yup, definitely seems that way. It's an interesting change to how I think about survival challenges in games 🙂
To add insult to injury you started a fire (finally) but didn't add enough fuel. Ugh. I love this game. LOL

Whoa! I wasn't expecting that bear going full "Revenant"!😱
But it sure is nice seeing you struggle with a new game every once in a while.

And don't worry about dying, I must have died hundreds of times by now, and I learn something every time!
The bear silliness did help me learn a few things about their behaviour at least 🤔
Thanks for the tips 🙂

Probably too much cool in the end 😂
The red exclamation point that appears on bottom center when you are on ice, means "your walking on thin ice."
It is a hard way you have chosen.

I figure I'll have a crack at the story once I feel more confident with the survival so I don't need quite as many tips from chat 🙂
I’ve owned this since it’s initial release, and still haven’t played more than an hour.
Yup, that's pretty much the situation I was in 😂
Good job. Might want to think about reparing/improving your clothes and reading book anytime your just waiting near a fire during the day. And any crafting.
I’m now curious where Splitsie would file “food”…
Would it be under the edibles or the hunger section?
Food goes in the fridge, not the filing cabinet! :P
Admittedly I am only an hour in, but where are all the wolves? I didn't go ten minutes into any setting before getting stalked and attacked.
The wolves were most of what I remembered from my brief play years ago, seems like they particularly like certain areas - at least one of which I found later on...
Interloper cause of death guess at 3min. Timber Wolf pack is my guess.
If only... 😂
Very entertaining! Thanks for thos stream.
I've owned the Witcher 3 for several years still haven't played it.
Been waiting for this.
This game could have been phenomenal if they just avoided the story mode.

If you want to know how you died you need to play zomboid ;-)
I'm not sure it gave me the answer, since it gave me lots of answers...
