    I actually opted for the 7i over the Alienware m15 r3 for a couple
    Reasons. All of your points here are valid, along with ones like you can’t put it on performance mode unless plugged in. The quality control is pretty sub par as I did have a dead pixel in the screen, but this screen with the HDR /Dolby is BEAUTIFUL! And the battery life is actually quite good

    Gonna go with this laptop. It's better than anything on the market right now at the price. HP Omen 15 with the 4800H is out of stock everywhere. I don't use touchpads in any laptop because they're slow as shit compared to a mouse. Thermals look great and the screen is miles ahead of the GS66. The ethernet/HDMI being on the back is a huuuuuuge plus for me.

    Just purchased this for my first gaming/creator laptop with the labor day sales to replace my 5-year-old Dell Inspiron 7500. It comes with 1TB/16GB/2060 and a 144hz-500 nits display for $1500 with the military discount (+tax). It was a little more than I wanted to spend for this loadout but I really wanted to future proof with TB3 compared to the 5i. The Omen 15 was the other contender but I felt this overall layout was more suited for me with I/O design, brighter display, and keyboard. The complete RGB control is also really nice, not that it really matters anyway. I should receive it later next week. I hope it was a smart purchase overall. I think Lenovo, in general, has a good reputation which convinced me to go this route. Time will tell.
    P.S. Love your reviews Matt, newly sub'd. keep it up.

    I ended up sending mine back. It is beautiful and next to the 740,the screen, keyboard, bigger battery, rgb lighting and smaller 230w power supply are all winners... Not to mention the 2080 gpu that was in my configuration.... But I couldn't justify the $1500 difference in price that I was about to pay... My 740 has a 2060 gpu same 32gb ram, and 1.5tb of storage plus wifi 6 card and Bluetooth 5.1... Mine is already paid for and I got it at a steal of $1100 so... While the new 7i is a winner, I'd wait for major discounts or stick with what you got for a while.

    I believe the gap between pad and the rest of the body is actually a good thing, this "feature" will compensate the tiring of the plastic around the pad (if this thing would ever concern anyone at all lol). Just think about rivets being used in plane construction, yes they use rivets instead of welding technique.. same in shipbuilding. Its a smart architectural solution for bending compensation after all. My only suggestion would be, dont make your laptop a dining table lol you will be fine!

    I have my 7i for a few weeks now. (got it for 1700$ = 2070RTX max q + i7-10750h + 32gb ram + 1tb nvme ssd) for that price, I think it's an amazing machine. (I wouldn't pay 3049$ like you.. I really don't understand why your laptop costs almost twice!)
    I think I was lucky with the built cause I don't have the issues people talk about.
    the screen is amazing, best I've ever seen. no real issues with keyboard and mouse pad...
    the only thing that bothered me was the temperature. It does run hotter than expected, all those talking about vapor chamber etc. I thought this laptop's gonna chill my beers lol I played some games like battlefield 5 with it, and noticed that it runs perfectly smooth on quite mode (less fps, but keeps it on low temp and honestly, I don't think my eyes can see the fps difference) balanced mode kinda sucked. it was no salt no sugar... felt like it's struggling between temps and performance. performance mode was also perfectly smooth... gave an amazing performance. (in gta v all modes were perfectly smooth)
    iCue software is useless. y'all should delete this garbage.
    I hope Lenovo will make some more software updates, cause I do think this laptop has tons of potential, and better software can amazingly improve it.

    • @gabrielcaceres4921
      @gabrielcaceres4921 4 роки тому +1

      Same configuration here. Yours is a useful review. I agree with you. I am not sure Optimus is really available but battery lasts more than 2 hours only if Corsair is disabled. Icue, RGB lighting and Lenovo Vantage software are not really well adjusted. They need updates asap. Especially the terrible default RGB with every reboot.. Also I don't like the power button, looks very cheap for such a stylish laptop otherwise..

    We bought this laptop less than 4 months ago and the only issue we had was the hinge peeling and loosening from the frame. Upon researching whether this issue is isolated, I found out that it's not an isolated case, some reporting it as early as days to few weeks and months. We decided to return it to the vendor since it is still under warranty and would require 10 to 15 days to repair or replace. Now, vendor said that after weeks of being there for repairs that they will just replace it with a new one, but then after a day or two they called again and said that lenovo will repair it and will take another few days to be fixed. Now we are still waiting for the update. Some of you will think that it is okay to get a new unit but what if the problem is repeated? I think fixing it would be much better if lenovo have a way of fixing the issue by adding more structural supports and replacing the type of glue used. I hope they recall the laptop and fix the issue before releasing it again.

    I've been watching laptop reviews for a while now. I don't get why everyone talks about keyboard flex and trackpad gaps, who the hell presses on the keyboard and trackpad that hard on a normal use case. Why is that so important? Please explain.

    • @nitric75
      @nitric75 4 роки тому

      Now, i placed both my palms on the 7i and typing. I don't feel it flex when i type. Of course it is not as firm as my surface book but you just dont feel it flex or wobble under the weight of the palms. Normally i don't tap at the upper middle part of the trackpad. Mine does have a small gap. I don't notice any flexing if i tap or click on the trackpad when i use it normally. The typing experience is not as nice as the SB 2 but close enough. For daily use, i don't think the keyboard flex and the touchpad issue are so so serious. My old ge63 keyboard also flex like that.

    IMO the unique thing about this laptop is that Lenovo will sell you the 2080 SMQ with a 6 core CPU. As a result, it's much cheaper and cooler than most other 2080 machines that only comes with 8 core. I got 32 GB ram and 1.5 TB for only $2300 and it has yet to top 80C during gaming. For anybody concerned about the trackpad gap, don't be. I took back my old one, and my new one also has it. My previous one I let lenovo on site support come and take it apart to put on an entire new top. Underneath, there was nothing serious causing the gap. We were not even sure why it had a gap. It is legit just the plastic top frame it's self. It is no cause for concern at all, it's just a defect and can make it feel cheap. Another common defect that can cause possibly damage if pushed down, is when you close the laptop, the left side isn't flat, you can still press it down more and it will pop back up slightly. If i paid more than $2k I'd be angry. But I got a $2,399 deal for only $1,800. Thanks to a sale+student discount. I looked at every other laptop in this price rage, and nothing compared to the Lenovo 7i. Razer, MSI products you would spend $2300+ on had the same or worse specs. I would say that you should get the 7i when it's top speced versions have very good sales. Otherwise hold off or buy another laptop.

    I have an issue with my y740 and i believe it can come on 7i too in the future. And i.e. some keys aren't showing green light and i think it is because of bad firmware.
    Edit : I think the issue maybe related to the windows update because some msi laptops are having the same issues after latest windows update.

    Lenovo and Asus are almost there. If they listened this year, we may finally have some great options in 2021. Up the build quality/construction, use new unique materials like the G14 Zephyrus, offer the full power in a 15/17 in option, add camera, offer AMD Ryzen high end and slim options with new RTX 3000 series, improve thermals, up the brightness of the screens and quality if possible..The tech is there, just put it together guys!

    This comment concerns a battery leak issue on the Lenovo Legion 7 related to the ICUE app. I contacted Lenovo and was sent instructions on how to solve this problem. The problem was solved very simply, I used only one item from the instructions - reset the power system to the default settings. This helps to restart the power for all elements of the laptop again and in the right order. So. 1. I removed the ICUE app from my laptop when I was trying to solve the problem myself. So I had to re-download and install it from the site. If you did not delete the application, then it will be enough to update it. 2. I have updated the ICUE app to the latest version. 3. Turn off the laptop and disconnect the power supply and all connected external devices. 4. You need to hold down the power button and hold it for at least 60 seconds, I held it for a little more than a minute. 5. Press the power button and start the laptop. Everything! At this point, the problem disappeared and now with the backlight on and the ICUE application running, the laptop runs for an average of 5 hours.

    1. Increase in temperature always shorten life span
    2. Pushing above tdp increase the chance of device failure
    3. When buying laptops especially to play AAA games in ultra settings and getting FPS above 70 is really difficult with current 2000 series GPU of Nvidia .

I am not sure if its normal or not. For me, my Legion 7i, 10875H w/ 2070SMQ, constantly hits 4.3GHz when dynamic boost is off. But when I turn it on, my CPU clock seems to fluctuate.
