    Let's not forget that the Dirac works for left and right pocket carry. When I carry a gun I want an automatic knife in my left pocket to use to end a gun grab. So many righties do not think about left side carry.

      I'd recommend using a small fixed blade, I use a kabar, just because if the knife blade on an OTF hits anything it can derail. I love OTFs, my favourite type of knife, but they have reliability concerns. If you do want one anyways though I'd recommend a single action! It'll stay out a lot better even if it misfires

    Microtech’s warranty is amazing. Had to send in an Ultratech for service and the customer service was great and the turnaround time was very fast. I can highly recommended sending your knives to Microtech for service, sharpening, etc.

    Pay the extra $ for the delta,the standard Dirac is a bit too small and not worth the asking price in my opinion. Micro Tech should make an in-between size of this model as well. Lightweight and slim in your pocket for an EDC.

  • @ahhcrickets
    @ahhcrickets 4 роки тому +1

    I got the standard D/E tactical (blacked out) version because I personally like the smaller size. Thinner and slightly smaller than the UTX-85. Love the Dirac. Super smooth actuation. My only complaint is the double retention on the clip-pretty tough to get out quickly. Unfortunately it does not slide out very easily but it as you said, definitely stays in the pocket. The UTX-85 clip works a bit better offering more clearance.

    A spring in my Dirac Delta broke when I deployed the blade during the fourth week after I bought it. Sent it back to microtech and they fixed it real quick but didn't say anything about the reason why or what happened. Sucks that it would break so fast, being something that I would hope I could trust to be reliable. When it came back it was drenched oil maybe if a spring is dry it's a problem.

    I know this video is a couple years old now, but currently, I'm torn between this, the Glykon (whenever they get back in stock) and the GT 40. The GT 40 is amazing, but I've never touched a Glykon and don't see where you've had a chance to review that one. Any thoughts on it?

    • @henryfeige8596
      @henryfeige8596 Рік тому

      What was your verdect. I was stuck between the GT 40, manticore x and the dirac delta. I just ordered the GT 40 today. I have tried the GT 35, infadel, most microtechs and a manticore e. I really liked the GT 35 because of the action so I bought the big one. the dirac is such a nice knife though and it is the best microtech that I have tried besides the scarab 2.

    • @GettinEdgy
      @GettinEdgy Рік тому

      @henryfeige8596 Funny you asked. Since I posted that, I've owned all three, and love them equally for their own reasons. The GT40, I love the size, razor sharp from factory, price, and that bearing/plate trigger. I've had 6 Glykons through my hands since then, fully customized and resold, and my daily carry is actually a Dirac Delta. I just really like the feel and symmetry of the Dirac Delta. If you put all three in front of me, and said "choose only one", I think I'd choose the Glykon. I really like that smooth trigger, customizability, and the beyonet blade style, but they are the priciest of the three.

      @henryfeige8596 Рік тому

      @@GettinEdgy Really? I never knew that the glycon was so good. I have used one of them before because my friend used to work for microtech and I thought that it was a weird knife that I wouldn't carry. Still waiting for the GT40 to come. I have owned a halo 4 and a ultratech before and I was underwhelmed by the ultratech.

    • @GettinEdgy
      @GettinEdgy Рік тому

      @henryfeige8596 Yeah, it's all about personal preference and feel. I will say one thing about the Glykons...its a flip of the coin. They are all nice, but some are just better than others, even from the same batch. Some have more rattle in the trigger...some have zero. Some, I have zero issue deploying the blade from the side trigger...some are much harder to do. I bought my first Ultratech at the bladeshow. I was actually surprised how small the ultratech model is (the full sized one).

    • @henryfeige8596

      @@GettinEdgy I don't know much about QC on other knife brands but microtech knives were mostly made on Haas VF-9 machines that were pretty close to spec. This is for the halo models and the smaller utx models that I know of because I was at the machine shop that they made them in. There was a lack of laser measurement machines for QC though.

    i very much disagree that the microtech is better than the infidel in every way. i wholly believe that the infidel has much better designed internals compared to the microtech. the infidel has a substantially more durable locking system. we also have to consider the designed use cases for both knives. microtech makes knives for general edc. the infidel was designed by benchmade as an actual weapon.
    all im saying is that theres a reason that microtech may void your warranty for opening the knife up yourself.
    ill also say benchmade is smoking crack with theyre pricing, regardless of how good their knives are.

      One of the best solutions I have found for all OTFs including this one is running strips of Talon Grips rubber grips on the sides. It still comes out of the pocket without issue, doesn't tear up pants, and adds a ton of traction to them. I've tried the knockoff stuff but real talon grips is the best blend of adhesive, traction, and not being abrasive. Doesn't leave any marks, have them on my cypher as well.

      For anyone looking at this in the future. The Ultratech is a dantier knife than the Delta, but in comparison to a combat troodon, scarab II or a recon 040 it is a slim dainty knife. it really depends on what you like. If you have ever tried a manticore X it is like that but a slightly slimmer and smaller handle. I like chunky knives but I have to say that this is better than the troodon for the money but nowhere near the scarab II. The scarab II is the second best OTF I have ever tried. First being a deadlock at a knife show as well. I would say that the troodon is a useless knife when it comes to options because the Recon 040 is a better big knife IMO and the Delta is a better combat oriented d/e knife.

    • @eskee1
      @eskee1 8 місяців тому

      How much personal defense do you plan on doing because even if you did have to wipe it after every attack is that really more of an inconvenience for you to prioritize after just having used it on someone enough to get their blood all on it? Seems like if you are that concerned about your safety you would think about what being so non chalant about stabbing someone and considering your pocketknifes well being over another human looks like to people who could consider that extreme/violent and find you as the main aggressor and lock you up for that where your safety would really be compromised and your knife wouldnt be there to malfunction on you in a personal issue with someone and if you did keep a shank and used it for self defense in there that would only be used against you furthering your problem from the stabbing incident which the police undoubtedly will sort out the details for you... Your knife although may be gunked up from blood and still in the open position and need a wipe but first they will need it to show to the jury so not wanting to wipe it after stabbing someone and calling it self defense will only (in reality) go against you. Be smart dont openly plan on stabbing someone with your knife or suggest it even as a joke as it could be used against you in the future as premeditatation if you ever do have to protect yourself with a blade one day.

    Actually the placement of the slider on the Ultratech has a lot more sense than those on Dirac and Infidel. After releasing the blade the thumb is exactly in the position to make a cut.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  3 роки тому +2

      It's not the only optimal position for your thumb. There are lots of ways to hold a knife when you're cutting. "Optimal" positioning is just opinion and perspective.

      Functionally, they're about the same. The tip on the Dirac is more delicate so it probably isn't as well suited for tougher tasks. I really just like the overall design and aesthetics more.

      No. You would have to intentionally jam something into your pocket with constant force to deploy the blade. Even if you do that, the blade would go off track preventing the knife from stabbing you like in a movie.

    Stop calling it "large" ...while it's the largest they may make, it isn't large...they need to make a Dirac with at least a 5 inch long blade.
