    I'm perfectly fine with people who have collectible knives they don't really use, but for some reason the people with those $800 tennis ball sized steel flame skull clips on their Hinderers are my biggest knife pet peeve.

    The evidence we have for the fact that they are not overpriced is that people keep buying them. A thing is worth what people are willing to pay for it. Microtechs are cool. If i want a beater blade i use my leatherman.

      EXACTLY. (I am law enforcement) In an urban enviroment I don't expect to slice an apple, and shit.....come on. If I know I'm going to use a knife I just rustle in my knife drawer, a Benchmade comes out, alright. Now, I am from Rome and carrying a Microtech is not allowed for civilians, it's like a concealed gun. Still Austria has a retailer > no customs > Microtetch. I was in Rome city center, years ago, some guy with a knife I didn't recognize attacked me and my girlfriend at 7 PM (classic guy talking shit trying to rob you) I had a Combat Troodon on me. YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN SHIT HITS THE FAN. NEVER. I carry that knife for different purposes. I'ts ominous, you deploy it, it's scary, i'ts a spear, flesh offer no resistance whatsoever (yeah I used it). In my carrier i used the CT and the Benchmade Nimvravus. Of course it's not pleasant to slash and cut people, but in all your life you go for a walk and nothing happens to your coffin. One evening in your life you go home and you wish you had a knife. I have 2 Microtech, I don't cut anything with them, they're for people. If they assault me while I carry an endura, I'll make the most of it. Once you get a couple bad slashes (which I did) you fear the blade less and less until you don't care anymore.

    I’ve had many black anodized Microtech knives. I’ve never had one that has bright aluminum/ steel show through. Handle/ clip/ blade coating, sure they have wear marks like snail trails but nothing like you suggest. I have knives that are more than a decade old, all users. They’re great knives.

    Have an Ultratech all black DE, was my main carry for 2 years before I even knew about EDC and the whole community. Had 2 stitch models, currently an 3rd one which will stay this time. I can assure you the stich is as hard in terms of usage as it looks. Mine and my buddies have been on countless outdoor activities like overnighters and stuff. Hammered it trough wood, meal prep, whatever. Although I'd stay with the older stuff from them.

  • @SMS2884
    @SMS2884 Рік тому +7

    I think the basic black and satin models are definitely the users. Then you have all the special finishes and hellhound blade type ones. Then again you have to understand some people have deep pockets and have no problem using a $2k rockstead.

  • @gualganus
    @gualganus 3 місяці тому +1

    Microtech themselves seem to frown upon those who don't use their knives. Sure, there are some SE models seemingly designed for collection, but the cost will reflect that fact. Any general purpose knife is designed for everyday use, no matter how beautiful and unique.

    I just ordered a Dirac Delta and I plan to use the hell out of it. I don't care about depreciating value, I don't care about resell value, and I know how to fix it myself if/when it stops firing. The only real concern I have is how fragile the tip is but I'll reprofile it when it chips and it'll get stronger when it does.

      @@andrewgross6002 Oh wow, I forgot all about this LOL. It got returned and I ended up with an Ultratech and a Scarab 2 Gen 3. Mostly because I quickly realized that double edges are a sure fire way to slice my thumb open (too many years using thumb ramps and Filipino grip) and I prefer the slicier grinds that single edge blades have. I use the Scarab quite a bit. I also got a Kershaw Livewire and absolutely love it.

  • @jaredmouret9723

    I own several ultratechs that I planned to actually carry but with limited use, like self defense and not utility, it's understandable that some may not want to use them to either resell later or keep nice, ultratechs are within my price range (though over priced) to where if something happens to it, it can be replaced, I have other knives that it wouldn't be to nice to replace if need be, so I carry those rarely, but still carry them, as far as microtech, I can say that I've had to send my knives back multiple times for missing screws and even a broken spring, which tbh, is kinda disappointing beings I've never actually cut anything with any of them over the years of carry, also I make a point to not "fidget" with them either, I only deploy the blade to wipe it down. My opinion is, if you're not buying for a personal collection, you might be dissatisfied with them as being EDC... they'll always be special to me though as I have plans to buy more. If you ask me, knives in general are collectibles. Whether you use them or not is up to you. Some are more function and task driven than others. Love my Microtechs and probably will still be collecting them and using some of them.

  • @pink7930

    No one ever talks about it, but one of non trivial benefits of having a high cost is the barrier to entry that creates. If the cost is prohibative for most, it means exclusivity and rarity for those willing to pay the mark. Take the Paramilitary 2 for example. PM2 is a sick knife. It looks striking and is an amazingly functional and ergonomic cutting tool, but everyone and their mother has a PM2. So having something like a Microtech is special, something different, and for myself that feeling is well worth the money. Its a natural feeling to want to have something others dont. I keep these feelings personal because its pretentious, but I think its a common experience and more part of the human condition than some will admit in polite society.

    I hope to get my hands on a Scarb someday. I see my stepside Sig. series Ultratech as a user, but a lite user that is more of a self defensive knife. It is interesting how old MTs become rare, take the venomtech for example, which was released as a sort of joke, but has disappeared from the market, and is a grail knife goal for me.

I’m actually whittling down my auto collection a little and gifting some of my cheaper autos to friends and family for the holiday since autos will be legal to carry in my state at the start of the new year. Once I’ve scaled down a bit, I’m going to start picking up more high end autos. There are some Microtechs that are within my price range along with some Protechs.
