I remember Comicsexplained video for Unworthy Thor, Rob left us on a cliffhanger on what Nick Fury said to Thor "Gorr WAS right". Even the video was muted on that part. He later edited it.
I'm going to be honest, Jason Aaron's characterization of the female Thor had its problematic moments and too many people overlook them. In the earlier parts of the run several, Male villains refuse to fight her because she was a woman (except Dario Agger who is a jerk). And you had a few female villains refuse to fight her (and willingly allowed themselves to be arrested) out of solidarity to Womanhood. That was so weird and cringy because Storm, Black widow, She-hulk, Spider-woman, Jessica Jones, and Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) would have thrown hands. Additionally, Aaron's writing had the cardinal sin of character assassination and jobbing-in order to prop up Jane Foster Thor, Jason Aaron threw Odin under the bus, he threw Frigga/Freya under the bus, he threw Loki under the bus, he threw the Phoenix Force under the bus, and he made Cul Borson (The Serpent) into a moron. And then Aaron kept doubling down on it in response to the few (but vocal) genuine trolls who hated the idea of a female Thor. But that's the worst mistake a writer can make; you don't double down, you write a better character to prove them wrong. Conversely, other comic book writers-Mark Waid for instance-made better use of the character in Avengers and some Crossovers. These writers made Thor (Jane) thoughtful (not foolhardy), strong (not condescending), brave (not brash), and show an appreciation for life because of her cancer. I remember thinking, "why wasn't this in Jason Aaron's comic, can one of these writers take over the character?" That being said, Aaron did eventually start adjusting how he wrote Thor/Jane to be in-line with the other writers; but that just means they did the hard work for him and he shouldn't get credit for that. And on top of that, he almost ruined Jean Grey and now he's trying to make Odin and the Phoenix Force a thing (which is made weirder by the fact that Aaron had previously introduced the idea that Thor Odinson and the Phoenix Force briefly dated off-panel). All in all, I love the character design, I love the concept of the character, but the execution was flawed (in Aaron's hands). That being said there was also a lot of undeserved misogyny thrown towards his character which I didn't appreciate, and I wish that didn't get mixed up into the valid criticisms of Aaron's writing of this character.
Brilliantly put! The Mighty Thor run gets a lot of hate because Jason Aaron humiliated great characters to prop her up. Jane Foster beating Odin was ridiculous and beating the Mangog so simply was insane!
They purposefully mix in the tiny tiny group that hated her because she is a women with ppl who made actual critique of the character, because they claim you can't critique the character because she is a woman. They don't see women as ppl, but as tools, same as how they see black ppl, LGBT, etc. If you made this comment under a vid of the Marvel youtube channels you would have ppl attacking you because you have a critique on the character.

Why are we acting like people ever liked when Thor was someone else no one liked Erik Masterson “Thor” either, he was just comically bad especially in Infinity War. In principle it doesn’t even make sense since Thor is a name and not a mantle. It would be like calling Iron Heart Tony Stark instead. One Piece did this and shows you how comical it can be.
Rob, you never finish the story where Gorr becomes a universe. You left us on a cliffhanger with his return over a year ago and never finished the 4th part.
At the very least, we could all agree the costume was rad. Plus, people needed to understand it wasn’t permanent. Aaron in his first story arc with Thor showed an Old King Thor with a Destroyer Arm and Mjolnir. It was a strange time, though, when seeing the forest for the trees wasn’t an option. To be fair, it was also a weird “throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks” for Marvel…
I believe the main problem with Thor Jane, isnt so much the part that she essentially became a Thor girl, so much as it involved stripping Thor off his name. Had it simply been a case of Jane becoming a hero alongside Thor, I bet there wouldnt have been any controversy whatsoever... But then at the time, Marvel had a thing of making new heroes which unceremoniously replaced the originals whilst discrediting them (just look at the "Real Hawkeye" Bishop and the spoiled Iron Heart). Jane Foster's hero arc involving the banshing of Thor, reducing him into just "Odinson", made it seem like she was supposed to be his replacement, and that simply does not go well. Now sure, you can always argue that this change was only supposed be temporary and that things would eventually go back to how it was before.... But then, consider the fact that they always can pull off a Captain Marvel, and diminish Thor's role as the mere power source for Jane, and things may not be that certain. The problem with this whole line of reasoning is that Thor gave her the title, she didn't run around calling herself that. Thor can be a title in the comics since there are examples, mar-vel is a name but he changed it on earth to marvel, then carol became ms marvel, then captain marvel later. You can argue the reason no lasting change occurs is because of outrage from a fanbase that is afraid of change. I mean i remember when this first came out I was just like eh not interested. I’m sorry but to me: Thor will always be the male Viking God of thunder because I’ve studied Norse mythology and the concept that Thor is a title and his power can be given to anyone, is nowhere near from the mythos. So i don’t agree with that concept. I don’t care who the power goes too but to me Thor should just be once character, who has the ability to lend his power to others through the hammer. I agree with opinion (i like mythology stuff myself as well). But i did read the story and the beginging part is interesting, at least when it came out. I did read it as i do want 2 give it a chance, same as i did with Superman jr.
Yeah, and Thor joining a group of Midgard superheroes... totally outside the mythology. I don't know why anybody pays attention to such a blatant disregard for the traditional myth.
You know how all changes change back as a rule, what are some the best exceptions to the rule (e.g., furry Beast) and what are some changes that would have been fine if they would've stuck (e.g, bone-in Wolverine, nightlife Hulk, or death of so-and-so)?
I'm not a fan of how they handle cancer in comics and CW shows. I have known too many people who had cancer and found they could have no escapism. It's like "lol! Sorry, magick won't work for you because you have cancer." Or "Vampirism won't make you better, you're sh-t out of luck." - Vampire diaries. It also treats cancer as this utterly hopeless thing. They are trying to treat it seriously but at the same time they're excluding people with cancer from the escapism fantasy.
What you’re not realizing is that we weren’t upset they changed one character. They changed all of our characters for the sake of changing them. All at the same time.
Exactly. Rob is too big to be honest now or he would be canceled, but in reality it's like going to get a pepperoni pizza and finding out "oh we changed it pineapple, it's new and different even tho it's not what you ordered or paid for"
@@KillLoganPaul4 well yeah if you ordered a pizza but they only sell pizza flavored pringles. Then when you express your disappointment they tell you you’re a bigot racist sexist.

I don't get the logic behind these two responses. 1. You're still proving his point of selective outrage. 2. They didn't change anything just cause they change all of their characters to tell a story. This happens to be the greatest Thor story of all time. (Arguably) What?! The pizza metaphor ain't it. It would be we don't offer pepperoni anymore.
I don't think so. I think Thor.. the actual Thor, is going to come out on top. From what I'm hearing, in many ways I'm liking the Love and Thunder version of Jane as Thor more than the comics version. In the movie Thor is still Thor and not "unworthy of his name".
@@coldfire22 if the leaks are true i don´t think i will like this movie but not because of Jane, because of what they will do to the Gorr the Godbutcher and Godbomb storyarc
Damn I can't believe Rob is really one of the SJW's that lie and say people hate Jane as Thor because she's a woman,I still haven't met anyone that hates this character for that reason,it's totally dishonest. Jane like Rey,like Reva, like Carol Danvers are objectively bad characters who the writers use as an outlet for their identity politics on top of the characters being bad,it has nothing to do with them being a woman or people wouldn't like Mara Jade,The Old Ms Marvel, the old She-Hulk,Wonder Woman,Gammora,Black Widow,Black Canary,Cheetah, like it's really crazy you're one of those people Rob,I used to have respect for you but how could I when you parrot the same nonsense as these bad writers and disregard valid criticism just to say "hurr derp derp you don't like her cause she's a woman" never thought you'd be dishonest like that Rob
When you mentioned controversy, I thought you were going to bring up the Andrew Dobson incident where he used an image of Jane Foster saying 'Calm Thine Tits' to Zelda Williams, daughter of Robin williams, after Robin passed away.
But as a point nothing stays the same in comics even the flash jay garrick came back Allan Scott captain America and bucky switching spots we got like 3 ghost riders maybe 4 hell look at spawn. Point is things have to change so you can write different stories but they always go back to the original material.
Funny coincidence that you drop this video just hours after Marvel Future Fight's latest update went live, which gave players 3 new uniforms based on Thor: Love & Thunder for Thor, Jane Foster Thor & Valkyrie as well as a thematic Legendary Battle game mode..
I hated this run. It was just so cringy. It had potential and I actually like the general idea. But they went too far. I am one of those that HATE the idea of them calling her "Thor". I mean, IF they wanted her to use the name, ok, fine, but why did they then start calling the REAL Thor, "Odinson"? THOR IS HIS GIVEN NAME!!!!! He has all the right in the world to keep using it. Being "worthy" has NO connection to his name. That was just really shitty writing. I don't like the idea of her being called "Thor" at all.. give her another name.. have people call her the "godess of thunder" or whatever, but using a man's actual name makes no sense at all. It isn't a code name or a title. The other thing I hate.. her having better control and mastery of Mjolnir. Or her being able to fight at all. "Whosever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the POWER of Thor" not, the "knowledge" or "training" or "experience" or anything like that. Thor has hundreds or thousands of years of actual battle experience. And yet.. Jane is somehow.. better? Um.. huh? Again I like the general idea, but you don't have to belittle the main character (Thor) in order to bring another character up. That is honestly just a sign of poor writing. They could have had her look up to Thor, lean on him for his experience. She may have new found power, but that doesn't mean she should be BETTER than the actual Thor. And I also hated how they made Odin a big chump during this run. I like the idea of her being a valkarie and what not though. Its weird because I was sooo in love with the entire Godbutcher run and thought Aaron was gods gift to thor fans, and then he went and did Jane Foster as Thor and I was just so let down. Donny Cates is doing an over all way better job to be honest.
Jane is SO much better. Who cares about story and writing? Pointing out plot holes, eh? You're a misogynist! You thinks its stupid Odin hid from Mangog while Jane and Freya fought him? Misogynist
First: it is a Marvel comic. Its an American story. Second: The real norse mythology would not have a female Thor. Or a "worthy to lift up the Mjölnir".
With the passing of Yugioh's creator Kazuki Takahashi, may i ask you, rob, to read His recent Marvel comic, released just last month, called Secret Reverse? I have no idea if its good, but 😔😔😔
It's not so uncommon for a comic character's love interest(past or present) to follow their lover's gimmick in some way so I don't think Jane becoming a "Thor" is too surprising. Lois Lane has been Superwoman, Pepper has an Iron Man suit, Betty Ross became a Hulk, etc, etc. I don't think(could be wrong) Catwoman ever became Batwoman, but that could be interesting.
This video got me thinking, just HOW exactly did Jane Foster managed to get to the moon in the first place? I mean she's just a doctor whose only relevance is her relationship with Thor, and we sure know neither he or Odin led her there to pick it up and she doesn't really have access to shield to catch a ride or anything
I deeply hate the fact that jane foster is named thor... it would be better if they just called her jane foster and it would be fine... And why wasn't captain america called thor just for the fact that he was worthy of wielding the hammer..or vision and beta ray or hella ...they retained their name but with the power of thor I love rob. But in this I'm not with him... and the movie already suck in my head. I now hate her just for being called thor..
I like the Mighty Thor run by Jason Aaron it's one of the best thor runs ever. And I also really like his avengers run right now I've been collecting the comics and the trade paper backs of his avengers run since it began.
i actually love the concept and character of jane foster "thor" my only issue which will always irritate me is the decision of calling her "thor". my reasoning is that thor is a name, not a title. i seen it as a theft of identity.
You act like the people that had a problem with a women being Thor are obsolete, when in reality they were changing many many heroes to be female and just making the male counter parts doofuses. So a lot of those people are very rightful in their opinion 👏
Rob: "Fans hate Jane as Thor because she was a woman" Fans: "we hate the run because Thor is not a title you can just give to someone because they lift the hammer. It's his name"
Jane Foster makes no sense, if she can wield Mjolnir why not heal her cancer. Thor Odinson has resurrected a man & has altered matter before. Why can't she just heal herself?
Yes, Rob. The only reason people disliked that story line is because dey hate duh wiiminz. There's no other explanation. Just salty he-man woman haters. That's the only possible reason.

I love Thor I like Jane Foster I really like Jane being worthy and wielding the power of Thor Treating the name Thor as a title that can be bandied about turned me off and I didn’t read Thor again until Thor returned proper. I would gladly read Jane wielding that power under her own name. But for me, she has not and never will be Thor. Also, the Valkyrie thing was stupid.
I loved the mighty thor story but the controversy was wild. It started really unfairly but you could really feel how defensive the writing got which I dint think helped.
Honestly I think the writing getting so on the nose was needed at the time. At it's core there was such a universal/powerful message of just self sacrifice & making the most out of the time you have that all of the sexist backlash needed to be addressed.

Yeah, and Thor joining a group of Midgard superheroes... totally outside the mythology. I don't know why anybody pays attention to such a blatant disregard for the traditional myth.
Thor is a name, that’s it. Leave it alone. Gotta spin it to fit the narrative.

ROB JEFFERSON, HEAR OUR CRY CHARACTER EXPLAINED/ MAMMOTH MOGUL(ARCHIE), DURGE(STAR WARS), ENERJAK(ARCHIE)
You know how all changes change back as a rule, what are some the best exceptions to the rule (e.g., furry Beast) and what are some changes that would have been fine if they would've stuck (e.g, bone-in Wolverine, nightlife Hulk, or death of so-and-so)?
What does "bone-in Wolverine" mean? 😂
@@thesamuraiman adamantium-less Wovlie. Around issue 75-100
Hey Rob, can you explain:
Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics)
Ooh! Yes!
OH I'm actually here on time! Thanks for making my Thursday so much better!
Today is Wednesday doe?😮
What you’re not realizing is that we weren’t upset they changed one character. They changed all of our characters for the sake of changing them. All at the same time.
Exactly. Rob is too big to be honest now or he would be canceled, but in reality it's like going to get a pepperoni pizza and finding out "oh we changed it pineapple, it's new and different even tho it's not what you ordered or paid for"
@@KillLoganPaul4 well yeah if you ordered a pizza but they only sell pizza flavored pringles. Then when you express your disappointment they tell you you’re a bigot racist sexist.
@@KillLoganPaul4 you 2 are acting like you are entitled to specific characters or stories because you payed for it....lmfao you nimrods deserve or are entitled to nothing: Marvel decides what they want to do, you decide if you want to read or not: most of their changes were done right, with solid and refreshing stories...
problem with people like you is you'd rather have a permanent and unbearably boring status quo for decades rather than discovering something new.
I don't get the logic behind these two responses. 1. You're still proving his point of selective outrage. 2. They didn't change anything just cause they change all of their characters to tell a story. This happens to be the greatest Thor story of all time. (Arguably)
What?! The pizza metaphor ain't it. It would be we don't offer pepperoni anymore.
@@KillLoganPaul4 So because you don’t like something no one else can either sick.
Sadly, I feel like they are gonna screw over Thor this film like they did Docter Strange
I don't think so. I think Thor.. the actual Thor, is going to come out on top. From what I'm hearing, in many ways I'm liking the Love and Thunder version of Jane as Thor more than the comics version. In the movie Thor is still Thor and not "unworthy of his name".
Of course it's her film. Whatever would make you think it wasn't going to be base on the last few years' output? Plus the leaks have confirmed it ;)
@@coldfire22 if the leaks are true i don´t think i will like this movie but not because of Jane, because of what they will do to the Gorr the Godbutcher and Godbomb storyarc
After seeing film I can confirm Thor is still Thor 👌 but you can tell their was more film left on the editing table
Nah, Thor did his thing in the movie, it was definitely his movie, I even called it that Jane was gonna kick the can.
I'm confused how did Jane foster got to the moon to pick up the hammer?
Wait, what happened? That's just disrespectful
Misogynist
@@TheMagnificentMongoSlade Jane is NOT better lol get over yourself.
@@mitchcowan1446 pretty sure they’re being sarcastic lol
First: it is a Marvel comic. Its an American story. Second: The real norse mythology would not have a female Thor. Or a "worthy to lift up the Mjölnir".

With the passing of Yugioh's creator Kazuki Takahashi, may i ask you, rob, to read His recent Marvel comic, released just last month, called Secret Reverse?
I have no idea if its good, but 😔😔😔
The Gorr run was one of the best but the Jane Foster one was trash because Jason Aaron straight up disrespected both Thor & Odin.
Mighty Thor was actually my first Thor title I was recommended and picked up at my comic shop and I followed Thor's title ever since.
Ngl I am far more interested in the iron fist thor Aaron's doing in the next issue of Avengers Forever
Respect for making this video!!! Can’t wait for the new movie to come out. Question is there a black panther playlist?
This video got me thinking, just HOW exactly did Jane Foster managed to get to the moon in the first place? I mean she's just a doctor whose only relevance is her relationship with Thor, and we sure know neither he or Odin led her there to pick it up and she doesn't really have access to shield to catch a ride or anything
Walt simonson is best run
how does she have the durability to take Hits from Thor level opponents
Because
because she’s a god
I deeply hate the fact that jane foster is named thor... it would be better if they just called her jane foster and it would be fine...
And why wasn't captain america called thor just for the fact that he was worthy of wielding the hammer..or vision and beta ray or hella ...they retained their name but with the power of thor
I love rob. But in this I'm not with him... and the movie already suck in my head. I now hate her just for being called thor..
That was good vid bro, explained alot.
Please do a review of Dark Crisis #2 I love the story so far

ROB JEFFERSON, HEAR OUR CRY CHARACTER EXPLAINED: HERO ZERO(DARK HORSE COMICS)
Thor is a name.
She should have remained a female Thor and not a Valkyrie.
By this logic they should have named She Hulk “The Mighty Bruce” 😂😂😂
You act like the people that had a problem with a women being Thor are obsolete, when in reality they were changing many many heroes to be female and just making the male counter parts doofuses.
So a lot of those people are very rightful in their opinion 👏
Hey Rob, did you ever finish the King Thor run? I don’t remember seeing you explain the end of the book.

Doom Patrol good to pretty good. Stargirl? Ehh
@@Alchemic09 what's wrong with Stargirl? It's quite literally the best representation of the JSA I have ever seen on TV. The action is great, phenomenal actors and the story is better than anything the CW is putting out right now. Only annoying thing would be some of stargirl's antics but that's acceptable because she's still learning how and what it means to be a hero
I love Thor
I like Jane Foster
I really like Jane being worthy and wielding the power of Thor
Treating the name Thor as a title that can be bandied about turned me off and I didn’t read Thor again until Thor returned proper.
@@famousthaneus9810 I think it stoked the fire more than anything but that being said I dont own the series anymore and havnt experienced the story in years I'm not sure how it looks without that cloud hanging over it. I should probably go back and see how it feels now.
