I just don’t understand why Marvel Hates Lady Sif so much now.
@@eldiegollador7271 she was exiled by loki and got snaped by thanos. Though now she is alive somewhere in the universe. I hope we see her in the next GotG.
@John Wong died in space
Killed by arm fall off boy
Didn't the actress pick a fight with someone at Marvel?
Jordan Loux I thought her schedule just conflicted with ragnorak’s filming
@John Wong They mention her in the play. Other than that there's no mention of her though.
My thing is that Jane hasn't been seen in the MCU in a long time, so it's kinda weird to bring her back.
Endgame? Mentioned in Ragnarok
Well if she has cancer like she did in the comics that can be easily written off
That's because Natalie Portman didn't like the fact a female wasn't directing thor 2 or something like that and left the franchise
it's pretty damn random, I'll give it that
They could just say that she got cancer like in the comics and wanted to be left alone
I feel like Valkyrie would've made more sense in the MCU. Thor has already made her leader of New Asgard, I'm sure she would've been worthy. Jane has been doing a bunch of nothing since Thor 2.
Probs dying of cancer. It really takes it out of you.
@@RamblyBear I guess, but how will they explain that? Unless it was caused by the aether radiation, I don't see it working out well.
@@popeyesking1995 she... got cancer? not that deep
The thing is, in the movies, Steve Rogers took years of character development to be worthy of wielding the hammer and now Jane comes around like: I can do that to.
Like, did she fight an evil organisation that infiltrated your country? Did she fight Hulk in a 1v1 match? Did she get her ass beaten by that purple Alien who literally wanted to kill everyone? No she didn't and that's the problem.
And what's more, anyone who is actually worthy of Mjolnir gets Thor's powers and does not become Thor that's literally the plot point of the third Thor movie. He's the god of Thunder, not the god of hammers...
I think you should wait until the film is out before saying it should be like this instead of like that!
My problem isn't with Jane Foster as Thor, it's Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, and by extension now as Thor. She has no passion for any of it, and I seriously doubt it'll be good. I hope I'm wrong.
Don't worry. Taika will prove us wrong I have faith in him. Although I don't like Natalie Portman a lot, you can't lie that she is a good actor.
I'm just wondering, why do you think she has no passion for it? If it's because of her cutting ties after Dark World, Chris Hemsworth also said he hated his time working on that movie, and to a lesser extent Age of Ultron. It wasn't until Taika Waititi did a soft reboot of the character in Ragnarok that he began to love the role again, so who's to say that the same won't happen for Natalie Portman in Love and Thunder?
@@nyrotike8153 From what I gather she didn't like being in either of the Thor movies, but I could be wrong
High-Lord Harza I see where you're coming, but then she's also an actress. And a very good one. Her whole job is to pretend that she's something she isn't. I reckon she's capable of playing Jane wielding the hammer whether she's passionate or not as that's what she's trained to do.
@High-Lord Yeah, I was hoping Keira Knightley would be the new Thor, I'm even surprised that Natalie Portman said yes to the role. But I'm hoping she and Taika Waititi will be able to change things around.
I don't mind her, I'm just gonna be pissed if Bata Ray Bill isn't in the movie
They missed a great opportunity to introduce him in Ragnarok
Agree. I hope Beta Ray Bill gets Stormbreaker
@@webslinger827 they said they wanted to but there were to many new characters so they didn't put him in it
@@godkianimations3468 that's a shame but I can understand that

They had a reference to him in Sakaar. He was on the tower along with Man-Thing, Ares, and Bi-Beast.
The real problem is THOR LITERALLY JUST BECAME GOOD IN THE MOVIES why replace him?
Joe Creek Endgame.
Too white, too male, and not the villain. He triggers too many progressives.
Slim Paco you want to go with this?
@Mr Glass not really smh, there are still male hero's but they just want to add more things to give a better examples to others. I can't really be angry because they're trying.
@@sarahcraze2183 they could add without taking away though they have hundreds of other just as great female superheroes
The only issue I have is that Jane has veen absent from the MCU for some time (8-10 years in canon), and am therefore concerned about how well she can be brought back. Ideally, I would rather Bill, or even Valkyrie, take up the mantel of Thor. Still, though I may not totally agree with the decision, I do like Portman and have faith in Taika to make it work.
If she has Cancer, this can explain her absence.
@@godzero8497 Exactly what I was thinking.
Valkyrie would make an awesome thor.
What if they use the multiverse? You know Jane from another universe
@@sebastianrook5478 but Valkyrie already is an awesome character. Jane need a redemption, and i trust this director to give her a good one.
The only reason I can except for being angry about this is Jane Foster in the MCU is almost completely irrelevant
Xx DanTheMan16 That’s my thoughts on it. If she had been consistently around this would have made a lot more sense. I’m not against the idea but skeptical on how well they implement since we haven’t seen Jane since the Dark world
BakedPancakes17 And Dark World was garbage lol
Agreed, I like the idea of female Thor but the character Jane Foster in the MCU is hardly in the MCU, it is even implied in the third Thor film that they have broken up and aren't seeing each other any more.
You know who would be a better fit to be female Thor? Falconry, Thor even made her the leader of the remaining asgardians so it would be interesting to see how she would take on the role.
Instead it's going to be a character who audiences generally know as Thor's ex girlfriend who got herself injected with an infinity stone that one time in dark world.
Type Masters Lmao “Falconry”
I agree with everything else you said though
I kinda don't like how they skipped over Beta Ray Bill
All I want to point out is that the hammer says "...shall possess the power of thor." And not "shall become thor."
She was called Lady Thunderstrike in the Avengers Assemble cartoon, they could call her that.
Ratchellio or how about this:
MAKE HER ONE OF THE NORSE GODDESSES. How fucking hard would’ve it been to have them create a new super heroine who was also based on Norse Mythology? Imagine Sòl, Freyja or Eir. Eir could’ve been really interesting, as someone who finds heroes with non combat powers really interesting.
Yes
And how should they even use the hammer, Cap took it back to 2014 because it would change everything if Mjolnir wasn't in the right timeline. And in the current time, Mjolnir is destroyed and we "only" have stormbreaker, which doesn't work like Mjolnir.
@@theawkwardskeleton6608 Yeah but aren’t they already characters anyway
The name thing is the only part I dislike.
The whole concept of Thor losing the hammer and it passing on to someone else is interesting, the twist with the chemo reversing is easily one of my favourite additions to a superhero ever, and the general plot is pretty darn good.
But the _name_ thing. It's like if somebody else took my laptop for a while and starting calling themself "Dan", while I had to go by my last name for a year or so.
Yo, it is true to the og Thor.
It's more like Shazam getting name and powers of the wizard Shazam
True, since his name is Thor, it does feel like Jane stole the name instead of coming up with her own.
Thor being a title has been a thing. Eric masterson was thor when odinson was exiled. Thor was originally just a human named Donald blake who found the hammer (disguised as a stick) and would become thor by striking it, but was rectoned into being the actual thor.
Same here, I don’t mind her filling in for Thor while he’s doing some soul searching, but I don’t see her as Thor, just as Jane Foster with a hammer.
Drake, she may be cool in the comics but... *do you remember Jane Foster in the MCU at all?*
Edit: To anyone wondering this video is strictly about Jane FosThor in the comics.
So *NO THIS VIDEO IS NOT ACTUALLY ABOUT THE MCU THIS IS CLEARLY A COMIC CHANNEL*
I wouldn’t say this comment was strictly satirical but it was not meant to be taken at a jab at Drake at all. Please be more respectful all of you to each other (and Drake too) and realize this is a comic channel.
Also as the end of the video says realize that change is not always a bad thing, Jane becoming Thor is a good example. Just because you may not like it doesn’t mean someone else will not like it either. People always have different opinions. Comics are a medium that is not permanent and is filled with many stories written by many different writers so things are going to change from time to time. So if you don’t like Jane as Thor for example I’m sure there is another comic you’ll like.
If you are wondering about any questions you might have Drake made an update video regarding that right here: ua-cam.com/video/LhsXx35HT9I/v-deo.html
Thank you all and hopefully you enjoyed the video and might read more about comics or Thor!
she was a poorly written love interest who the writers didn't put all that much effort into. personally, i like portman and i'm really looking forward to her getting a bigger role like this. plus i'm curious what they had her doing during ragnarok.
kamenkewl gotta be honest this whole MCU Jane Foster Thor thing feels really forced
Who?
Xx DanTheMan16 True but with that said Jane Foster pre-Jason Arron wasn’t a particularly well rounded character either.
We have no idea how Taika will handle it. We should have faith as he is a great director
Thor isn't a title. Its his name. Its who he is. Thats the problem I've always had with her
eftultima it’s like you didn’t even watch the video.
@@adriox23 i did but her book is still called Thor is it not?
Batman isn’t dark, he makes jokes. Batman never jokes. Batman only kills if he needs to. Batman never kills. These are comics we’re talking about, there are no absolutes. You can not like a change, that’s fine, but if the reason you have is “that’s not how it was”, that’s not a very compelling viewpoint. It’s not even the first time someone else has been the de facto Thor. Just go back and read Infinity Gauntlet for one of the more prominent examples.
@@xthelegend89 wtf are you talking about
eftultima pointed out how often established characters change in comics and that other characters have already become Thor. Don’t know how to make it any clearer for you.
I don’t hate it but I would definitely have preferred it to be Beta Ray Bill
Yeah Marvel just forgot about him.
@@aguyonline2335 they didn't forget they will try to find a place for beta Ray bill
Poor Bill :(
My second favorite character
Never say never
My problem is less with Jane being Thor it's more of how all Legacy characters are being handled now. All legacy characters are being treated as if they are being stronger or have more power/control then the previous character.
Miles has more powers than Pete and had more control over the Enigma Force.
Jane Foster had more control over Mjolnir in a short time compared to Thor and his life experience.
Iron heart is able to fight against an AI Tony Stark controlling multiple suits at once.
My issue is that these characters are shown to be immediately on par or better than the previous with little to no build up.
I acknowledge that this likely happened in the past and I wasnt aware of it then. And maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see. I wont bash people for liking these characters or stories, nor will I call them bad. I just am not a fan.
Pretty much everybody hates this about the replacement characters, its not just you.
Dylan Davis which is exactly my problem with characters like miles, Jane and riri. In the new movie I hope she is not more powerful than odinson and has to actually train to be on his lvl.
@@eem2wavy133 Spider Verse Miles surpasses the bland and boring comic book Miles
Honestly, with Riri the AI did most of the fighting it was almost like a symbiote where it did what it needed to so to survive yet when she wanted to be extra that was ALL HER. That L to Thanos all her that's why it broke her giving her PTSD
Yeah that's what I thought about the legacy characters as well. The only characters that I found to be well written with respect to handling their predecessors' mantles were Sam Wilson and Laura Kinney (X-23) as Captain America and Wolverine respectively. They were given actual struggles and human flaws, they really endeavoured and overcame several hardships to become worthy of the title.
I'd agree with most of this...exept saying if you don't like her you're "anti diversity" gotta disagree there

Putting aside that silliness, the status quo always comes back. Complaining about this shit in the interim, is the thing that people who have never read comics do, and it perpetuates itself into the current outrage culture. Over something that has no overall permanence, just sit down and wait for your precious status quo to come back. Shit, I just looked up Norse girl names and Tyra is literally the girl version of Thor, they could've just called her that
No, Tyra would be the girl name of the Norse god Tyr. Tyr, as in the god Tuesday was named after. Wednesday being Odin's day and Thursday being Thor's day.
(And as someone who grew up with Scandinavian mythology, I assure you that Marvel's Thor temporarily giving away his name to Jane as secret identity name while he goes on a walkabout is very far from the weirdest thing Marvel comics have done with Thor & co, and actually fits the comic character Thor Odinson)
Il Al my point still stands either way but fine, then call her a Norse name that basically means female Thor. I know at least one exists. As for the weird shit in the comics, I honestly don’t care. Comic or movie treating Thor as a title that anyone “worthy” can have instead of the name of the actual person is still dumb imo
The comics have always been a little confused about the issue, early on it was sometimes writen as if Donald Blake became Thor, hence the inscription on Mjolnir saying whoever wields it has the power of Thor. Then Blake was supposed to have always been Thor but not remember it, but why would Thor have a weapon that gives him the power of Thor? Surely that would be completely redundant. Then there was the stuff with Erik Masterson.
Lady Jane!
I hope that "real" Thor gives her either his OG hammer, or StormBreaker and they go on a buddy cop mission together. And when NatPort gets the hammer, it transforms her into someone who's acting doesn't stink.
I really hope she channels corny og Thor, like a switch to Shakespeare in the park level of cheese.
I like your buddy cop idea that way we get Jane thor while Keeping og thor
I would love to see Portman as Cancer-Jane but when transformed they use some other actress as lady Thor. Someone buff and believable as lady Thor.
Il Al that’s what I’m thinking but there going to CG her face on the buff lady like they did in Captain America TFA when he was a weak boy
@@Call-me-Al they could use gal gadot in a blonde wig shes very fit
My only problem is that Jane hasn't really done anything in the MCU, I wanted Valkyrie at least she is a big deal in the MCU compared to Jane
While I concede that Jane as Thor had some good moments, it ultimately destroyed the integrity of the Asgardians, especially Odin. In mostly every scene that Odin has had before Jason got his mits on Thor, Odin was shown to be truly wise and even compassionate, seen in many scenes where although he initially seems to be being an ass, he eventually shows others things about themselves they didn't know they had. He wasn't apathetic by any means but was an All-father to others to guide them down a good path with true wisdom (y'know, what he sacrificed his eye for).
Now I absolutely hate his character and he shows no wisdom or integrity he originally had and its frankly disgusting. Another annoyance was making Jane Thor "surpass" Thor in every way for no reason at all. Eric Mastersen admitted he was never on that level and so have other characters who have assumed the mantle, so why is she stronger than a true Asgardian amped by Mjolnir as a Human straight after getting Mjolnir? It makes no sense especially because she has cancer, and her body is killing itself, and compared to the body of a god she is somehow stronger?
There are other minor things, but these are things of not that sort of take away any goodwill the character earned.
Also good video.
The reason why they're making Jane steal Thor's identity is to attract more sexist fans. So there is a reason lol.
Recently just finished the jason Aaron Thor run amd I do agree with you that Obin was probably the worst handled character in that series the were some legitimately funny moments with him like when he tried lifting the hammer after pushing Thor aside and calling him boy only for him to not be able to lift it
What really annoyed me was the Jane Foster having cancer and straight up refusing to get healed by Asgardian magic claiming the's always a cost to magic despite using Thors hammer like really Jason Aaron....... If the was no cure and Jane deciding to spend her days asa superhero I'd be on board with her
Also Malekith was a lame antagonistic... They had an interesting idea with him being a victim of Asgardian wars but they don't do anything with him.... Like imagine if they ran with that idea and his war of the realms was his way of getting revenge on the gods and having them kill each other would've let the story come full circle but oh well!!
Loved the art though from nxwaa💋💋chef's kiss

But cancer is!
The issue is Portman not Mighty Thor. I don’t think she understands these kind of parts. I didn’t miss her in Ragnarok . If I didn’t miss her, that means Portman didn’t do enough to make me care about Jane Foster. This story line hasn’t had the ground laid for it. This will be Marvel’s Dark Phoenix.

I’d argue it started with Miles Morales. Miles was great. Kamala was great. Then it started to drift off a bit.
Like all characters which are hit or miss. The fact that they are diverse doesnt prevent shitty storylines, just as how some original characters are occasionally bafly written.
It started to drift because it REALLY wasn't anything for them to do. They don't have good rogues and their comics are more so a slice of life. Personally, Miles always been bad until Spiderverse. Kamala would be fine if it wasn't was Carol being a bad role model.

“Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” The very thing on Mjolnir that is inscribed onto it. Being worthy doesn't mean you take the person's name. I know it's a constant pain in the ass. It got to an absurd point with Captain Marvel's MCU movie. If the people promoting it weren't such self righteous assholes about it, the movie had been good and the the franchise's integration into the the over arcing MCU storyline were more organic I would have really liked that movie. That could have been a massive win for diversity in genre media but they prioritized optics over storytelling.
@@jimdotbeep yeah I have similar feelings towards Black Panther but only due to audiences saying if you don't like it you're racist, that being said I love the movie, it had a great story a healthy amount of humor and action balanced with unique characters, captain Marvel didn't have those at least to me. This is the only movie that really pushed it so I don't think it will become a trend with the average success it got.
One thing I didn't like is highlighted here. People got upset about the presentation long before all the cool stuff he points to ever show up. It is literally a case of the ends justify the means. Drake doesn't address any of the scenes that were deliberately insulting to the folks. The passing the name scene is months after the change... after all the mud slinging had already happened. If you want to do this kind of stuff... lay ground work for it, talk to people about why it works in story... don't write hate mail to fans who are hurt, confused or feel they have lost something. Don't underline the loss like it is a good thing and the original fans should be celebrating. Don't tell them their favorite character is never returning... especially if he likely is... just saying it is a trauma for folks invested in the heroes. Cheering Jane as the one and only Thor, while the readers guy is slumped in a corner... eh... just seems like a pretty callus move... and doing some good writing to cover the wound months later is a poor excuse. Especially after you throw in scenes where you beat up said fans by proxy sometimes even throwing in their wife cheering on the beating.
@@mystery8064 There were some self-righteous cultural authoritarians telling people they couldn't give Black Panther a negative review no matter what before the had even seen the movie. Fortunately for Black Panther t never turned into some kind of full blown scandal. I think the are two reasons for that. The first being that the success of Black Panther was a forgone conclusion. Fans and general audiences had become fascinated with Black Panther long before the promotion for the movie began in earnest. The second is that the narrative the comic books fans are racist is a MUCH harder sell than the narrative comic book fans are sexist. Stan Lee spent his entire career strongly advocating against racism. Not only that but for much of their history comic books had much more representation of people of color than movies and television did.
@@jimdotbeep I never understood why some people said Stan was a racist, sexist, and homophobic person right after his death when he helped create the X-men, a team made as an analogy for minorities, marginalized, and discriminated against groups.
I still hate that whisper bs. For me it kind of invalidates that moment in Unworthy Thor at 3:09 and Odinson's character in general. If the belief that you're worthy is what makes you able to pick up Mjolnir, then young arrogant Thor would be able to pick it up and this Thor that questions his worthiness wouldn't. Worthiness always seemed separate to one's opinion of one's self , that even if you weren't sure of yourself or thought you didn't deserve it, the actions you took and the true reasoning behind them made you worthy. The whisper felt like PIS for the sake of story. I always felt it was something that could make him less effective with MewMew but not unworthy
That, _that_ scene with Absorbing Man, Odin and the BS with the Sun (though it did lead to a cool moment in WotR) are my only gripes with a Thor run I thoroughly enjoyed. (I'm still on the fence about the Mother Storm)
I feel that in order to be unworthy, one has to fail something that is meaningful. Not because a whisper about one's worthiness

Falcon becoming captain America just feels like one of those natural obvious changes to the status quo for the better. It's like nightwing becoming batman, it just feels like the correct person to take up the mantle. Might just be me though, I'm not terribly familiar with marvel.
Also Jane's great.
Falcon taking up the mantle of Captain America in the MCU wasn't controversial. As you pointed out it was a natural progression and unlike comic books movies had character arcs actually end. Superhero comics are designed to go on indefinably you can't expect anyone with half a brain to take one of the DC's or Marvel most popular and profitable characters passing their mantle seriously in a comic book. In a movie franchise that's gone on for 11 years that isn't the case.
In the MCU, I felt that Bucky would have been a better choice to follow in Captain America's footsteps. Falcon already is a hero in his own way. Buck was trying to find his place, he has a lot to atone for, and he has no identity of his own.
That said I don't really care. I'm done with the MCU after Endgame.
Buckey is the more logical choice.
darkblood626 Bucky is still very emotionally unstable after everything that has happened to him including his best friend essentially leaving him. Not giving him the title is so that he can forge his own path forward and not feel obligated to follow in Cap’s footsteps. Sam was the perfect choice for the new Captain America
@@graysonred470 yeah he was. That was also my problem with people complaining about Laura as Wolverine. I had to ask if people had ever freaking read comics with Laura and Logan, because what they did has literally almost always been their dynamic since she tried to kill him. X loves him as her dad and he loves her as his daughter. She wants to live up to his legacy, but he's always wanted a better life for her than he ever had. He always wanted her to be better than him as a person and she always wanted him to realize how good a person he really is.
For me I just have mixed feelings with the identity.
Let’s go to Captain America, the representation of the American ideology. The one that holds the values of Freedom and Liberty for all. Captain America is not held down by Steve Rogers, it is a mantle that can be passed to one’s that holds the values it represents.
Iron Man, unlike Captain America, it is not a mantle. Iron Man is not a mantle that everyone can hold, Iron Man is the representation of Tony’s ideology. A suit that suits (no pun intended) Tony’s individualistic ideology of putting the responsibility of shouldering the whole world by himself. “I am Iron Man” Tony Stark in not Iron Man, but Iron Man is Tony Stark.
Spider-Man, similar to Iron Man, Spider-Man is the mask that Peter wears as his responsibly of having a greater power than others and preventing threats similar to what happened to Uncle Ben. Shown in Homecoming, Peter learns that the suit he wears is not the thing that pushes him to try to become Spider-Man “If your nothing without this suit, then you shouldn’t have it.”
Then Thor, let me ask you, who is Thor? Thor: Ragnarok, “what were you the God of again?” - Hela “Are you Thor the God of Hammers?” - Odin “God of Sparkles” - Grandmaster
Thor’s arc in Ragnarok was Thor redefining himself on who he was without Mjoinir and was able to find an identity that separated himself from just a man that wielded a magical weapon. Kinda like how Steve Rogers may have been able to lift Mjoinir himself but his identity didn’t change from Captain America to Thor. However, re-introducing Jane Foster and replacing Thor... as Thor, just because she was able to lift Mjoinir will destroys the point of the identity of Thor. Thor is not like Captain America that ca be passed down by lifting the hammer.
Which also is why people does not like Riri as Iron Heart. She may have been able to create a separate identity as Iron Man, but the fact that she is using a stolen tech owned by Tony, shows how no matter what, it is still Iron Man as a whole.
YOU NAILED IT! 👏👏👏👏👏
Satou Kazuma you kinda messed up your own point tho. Iron heart is a different name. Riri May have tony tech yes but let’s not forget miles also gained his powers from the same spider that got peter and laura is literally a clone of Logan. Hell wolverine and Deadpool own there existence to cap bc there programs were derived from the super soldier program.
Everything else is fine tho.
Eem 2wavy yeah but Miles is different tho. Miles is part of the spider verse, Miles became his own Spider-Man. That’s like saying Spider Noir and Spider-Ham is the same with Riri. Riri is literally just a replacement for Iron-Man who we know was gonna come back anyway, a copy and paste for something that worked, Miles Morales.
@@CrazyLurker Wow these are poor points and excuses. The Spider-Man bit was a special load of bologna. Especially since many characters have carried the mantle of Spider-Man in the main continuity alone. Then you sidestep a valid argument for Riri. But you do it by ignoring something critical, for actual decades it has been a common trope in comics for the main hero to be replaced by someone else and then come back later. It goes back so far, maybe the earliest I can remember was when Rhodey was Iron-Man in the early 80s. Or Flash way back in the past as well, Batman in the 90s. It's just a regular part of comics, the list is loooooong.
So it's literally nothing to be upset about. The list of permanent replacements like Johnny Storm as Human Torch in the 60s is much much smaller. The thing usually goes like this, something happens to the main hero, replacement comes along who shows us some major flaw in the hero they replaced by being better in some way. Later on, the old hero comes back, improved, but also reminding us why they were, in fact, the best version all along (what you ultimately want), the new hero gets a new name and either begins working alongside old hero or has a big falling out with them.
Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, retcon and the beast.
Nich Hustler that’s the comics, don’t put the comics in the MCU. The MCU don’t follow he comics nor does it scale on it. Sure in the past, replacing the hero status to others would just be another day. However, now in current times, replacing the person behind the mask is nothing more than slapping the memories of the heroes (or villains) we love for a quick buck. Also unlike the comics, the MCU has a consistent minds on it. The comics does not establish each character like the MCU nor did it care enough for a major development to stay. The comics just create a major development but later does something to change the status quo. Like in the comics with both Spider-Man and Batman, their marriage could have potentially changed their characters to become different only for the characters to be jebaited and return to their single lonely life.
Sure I’ll give you the Spider-Man part, however let me ask you what happened to each Spider-Man character that replaced him? I don’t know much but I’m pretty sure it went back to Peter being the only Spider-Man and returned it’s status quo, either because the ones to replaced him was an already known hero/villain that returned to their identity, or ones that died from it (or in the rare case of Venom, both died and became a beloved one that never did replace him).
Few things. They still _called_ the book Thor, so she was clearly marketed as _being_ Thor. Second, nitpick time, why does she get armor from picking it up? Third, the hammer doesn't even EXIST in the MCU anymore, so how is that even going to work? Fourth, I'm generally against legacy characters that are really similar, except in cases like Cap's where Captain America is a symbol that NEEDS to live on to inspire the world.
Idk, maybe you should wait to see the movie maybe?

Thank god someone else actually read the book! The unworthy Thor and Jane’s Thor run has to be one of my favorites. It’s very well written and the art is just a treat!
Okay but your whole video basically tells me that Jane doesnt need to be worthy in the MCU because Thor already had his identity crisis. Why would he need another one? Its obviously just fanservice done wrong. Comic!Jane's Thor sounds cool and it seems like it helped Thor's character arc, but in the MCU it would feel redundant. Why would Thor suddenly be unworthy?
"But Norse Mythology is canon!"
Right . . . So Marvel's Thor is Red-haired, Brutish, not well-spoken, kinda cruel, kinda dumb, and has a large chunk of whetstone lodged in his skull? Among so many other differences between Comic, MCU, and Mythology . . . Source Material: www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/search/?query=edda
They are not remotely the same. What little we have -- The Poetic Edda, and the Prose Edda -- were written *after* "the viking era" by a Christian Lawyer who wanted to teach the then modern Icelanders how to write their traditional poetry. There is little to no evidence that the Edda are even all that accurate to the actual Norse Mythology beyond names and generalities.
There was a *Religion*. That *Religion* was supplanted by Christianity. We have *Christian-flavored Mythology* that hints at the former *Religion*, and not a lot of it, at that. Just mostly references to the characters that are loosely acceptable to the Nordic-flavored Christianity of the time.
Flash-forward a thousand years, and we have Thor represented in Wagner Opera. Shift forward to the 1960s, and we get a version of what we finally recognize as "Marvel's Thor" in the comics. Journey into Mystery #83, published in 1962, to be pedantic. He's changed numerous times over the decades since. Are they "Gods"? Are they "Aliens with sufficiently-advanced technology"? Does it matter? We survived the "Hulk vs Thor" movie of 1988: ua-cam.com/video/jCQug0FEvZ0/v-deo.html and after that -- much after that -- we get the MCU Thor . . . Thor, a Nordic God/Alien played by an Australian actor. Is that so much easier to accept than that a Fictional God can be played by a Woman -- Gasp! -- especially after such a good comic run with the same concept? Jane Foster as Thor, with Thor being treated as a Title, hence "Odinson", and gaining the power of Thor because Mjolnir judged her worthy of wielding it just as it deemed Steve Rogers worthy, or Beta-Ray Bill? When she gains his power, she shows she is *Not* him. She doesn't fight like him. Act like him. Pretend to be him. She does so because *someone* needed to, and she was willing to -- **Spoilers** -- even if every shift from Jane Foster, End-Stage Cancer sufferer, to Thor wiped-out the ground that the grueling chemo and other treatments made. She showed that she was willing to make the same kind of sacrifice that Steve Rogers did on many occasions, even before becoming Captain America, or that Tony Stark did in several incarnations, including in Endgame in the MCU.
A Woman . . . Gaining Superhuman Power . . . does not, in any way, diminish the fact that Men have gained Superhuman Power. The argument that she's too small to be a Thor, and do Thor-like things is no different from arguing that Chris Hemsworth is not strong enough to lift much-less swing a physical solid-metal/stone hammer the size of Mjolnir with one hand. You get that, right? At best, it's 42.3 pounds: news.ncsu.edu/2013/02/wms-mjolnir/ -- at worst, it weighs as much as 300 Billion elephants. If it were lead: ua-cam.com/video/C4G-AEKX_dY/v-deo.html Or if it were Tungsten: ua-cam.com/video/XFnJ2tUBaLI/v-deo.html
All of those arguments are moot because of a single word: "Magic"
All of those arguments are moot for anogher single word: "Fiction"
Given that Loki, Thor's half-brother or maybe full-brother, not only turned himself into a *Horse*, he changed sex, and turned himself into a *Mare* and gave birth to "All the Monsters of Earth", namely the Midgard serpent Jörmungandr, and Fenrir, the wolf that devours everything including the moon and sun at Ragnarok, or perhaps to start Ragnarok. But no, a woman can't play a role that may or may not be a title -- like a station of office -- that was held by a male because . . . why? Female thor will never be Thor (Thor will), Nightwing will never be Batman (Bruce will) and Miles, Miguel and Ben will never be Spiderman (Peter will). It's fine if they're alternate characters in alternate universes but bringing them in the main one is a fucking joke.
I love Jane Foster, but I felt like Valkyrie would have made more sense in the context of the MCU. I don’t even remember Jane Foster from the movies.
valkrie is useless lol
lizard better than Jane in the movies
@@craftingodst3400 valkyrie is actually a God and queen of asgard lol
what is she a god of
@@craftingodst3400 well.... she is a valkyrie you know that right? Exceptional female warriors chosen by Odin? One of there many duties being to usher the dead to Valhalla, a well as protect asgard and Valhalla from evil.
Just don’t like Natalie Portman in the Thor movies she’s just crap, Valkyrie should be the one to wield the hammer she’s so much better
I very much agree with this. Female Thor is fine, but Valkyrie is such a better character to use for it.
So the problem I have with the diversity movement isn't having more diverse characters, it's the fact that they replace good characters with shallow reskins of those same characters with little to no substance.
Jane has years of history. She is genuinely a substantial and interesting character and is very different from Thor Odinson. I do agree at some points character changes are unnecessary (When RiRi took over Ironman) but Jane becoming Thor in the comics at least was totally justified.
When you put everything like that, I can see your points and see some good things about Jane wielding the hammer especially when you consider to what extent she was self sacrificing about it. THAT was well done, but I find there are still too many things that rub me the wrong way. It was a case of a good idea that was not executed in the way I would have had in mind. However, I truly respect your argument here.
If they say she has cancer due to the stone in her and they role with that will be awesome, if they remove the cancer plot it lessens the character since she won't have an internal struggle while dealing with god stuff
I'm annoyed because Jane has straight up disappeared for 6 years, we weren't too bothered about her, now she's becoming the new Thor. Like: Out of nowhere!
Did they ever explain how Jane Foster got to the Moon to claim Mjolnir?
Yes.
@@ComicDrake so how did she get it?
Read the comic. ;)
@@ComicDrake If he could read the comic he would not have asked.
I don't really have a probelm with that, but as people already mentionned it in the comments, Thor is a man, that's his name, not a title. I just wish they would find a female nordic mythologic character to cast Natalie as. To me she will never be Thor. Thor is a man and always will be, but after all, that's just some comics and a movie...so it's fine. Deviations always happened in entertainment industry, no big deal. I'm writing this with a necklace of Thor's hammer but i can totally accept that there is a female thor since it is just some entertainment stuff, it doesn't actually changes the legend itself.

@@ComicDrake ye ik i agree with that statement, i totally see why it is unecessary
Here's the thing. There was prescedent for other people taking on Thor's powers in the comics. Thor's being an office more than any specific person is part of thae character.
The mcu killed that line of thinking. They shot it, stabbed it, covered it in gassoline and lit it on fire, then pissed on the ashes. First the hammer got destroyed, and Thor's still had his powers. "The power was you all along" trope was basically the entire plot of Ragnarok. Then Thor gets a new weapon and still has the same powers.
So, no not buying it. They can't gust give the hammer to someone else. I am going to need an asguardian organ transplant, is hyperdymentional chrysalis or something to maintain any shread of suspension of disbelief. The hammer cant give her any power, so why use it at all. It is gonna take a whole plot line just to recreate the hammer for no reason.
And there is no narrative reason for her to get the same powers (however she gets them).
TL;DR There is no reason for her to disappear into Thor. Let her be her own hero. Let her be her.
If people wanna hate, hate about two females playing males who were never female in the comics in The Eternals
No one cares. As said in the video it's also about timing. But in retrospect, Thor is considered to be a name rather than a title. It's like when Dick Grayson filled in for Batman nobody called him Bruce.
@@mystirboy still those two things HAPPENED in the comics unlike the Eternals situation
Highkey Eternals is gonna bomb
No way she’s worthy in the MCU, and I also hate how she’s called Thor, just call her the goddess of Thunder or Lady Thunder or something
My issue the Jason Aaron's later run on Thor;
1. The whole 'Jane Foster using Thor's name like a title' is dumb. It just is. It's literally like if Hal Jordan called himself Abin Sur after receiving his green lantern ring. Or if Dick Grayson tried to convince everyone he was Bruce Wayne after becoming Batman. And if Sam Wilson was insisting on people calling him 'Captain Rogers' it would have been equally insipid (even though I very much liked the idea of Sam becoming the new Cap).
2. The reveal of what made Thor unworthy came *WAY* too late and took part in separate miniseries that seemed to do nothing to further his character and straight up lied about its ending.
I have faith Taika Watiti can salvage Jane's reputation as an uninteresting character from the lesser Thor movies. But if he does translate this plot point, I am going to wince a little...
Okay. Maybe I'll pick up some digital volumes of this Thor run.
Deoxy360 it’s really good
