Under the belief that true peace and free will can never coexist, one would be right to support Doom. Think doom just recognized that mindless obedience and basically slavery but in a different name was not the way he wanted to rule. Where as in Latveria he did rule with an Iron fist. But it was because people loved him and actually obeyed the rule of law with their free will. There was still conflict in Latveria but it was organic and small. People had free will. In emperor doom nobody had free will. They all just obeyed like drones. He recognized that soulless kind of leadership was wrong and something he did not want. Which was something he slowly began to recognize after his conflict with wonderman.

The problem of Doom is that he only search for futures where he achieve the "stability" for human kind, he is unable to search for a future where he is not responsible of that (other solutions are simply... failures to him). It is true that a hard hand is needed for an effective goverment, but not at the cost of liberty of think and act (between certain limits).

I doubt you'll see this, but after finishing this video, I had to leave a disclaimer: I'm not the biggest comic book reader, but I've developed a strong attachment to Dr. Doom as I've grown up. I'm a simple man, I see Doom, I click. Doom Quotes, Doom Best Moments, and very few of them are "good" at best. This is the best Dr.Doom video I have ever seen. The philosophical references to Plato's Republic, Immanuel Comps Categorical Imperative, and Carl Schmit are nothing short of impressive. It would be a disservice not only to leave a like on this video, but also to be impressed by the depths of comparisons you have made in a 15-minute video. Thank you, Mr. Comics Explained!
If it wasn't for my love of Magneto, Doctor Doom would be my favorite comic book villain of all-time. So much lore and mythology that could be discovered in a movie.

The best type of villain is one that makes you question your own morals or ethics. Doctor Doom is that type of character. He didn't want anyone in his country to suffer like he did, so he took over the country. His, by any means necessary, mentality is an extrtreme version of what it means to be a monarch.
Do you know what the joke is Atlantis has been destroyed dozens of times millions killed.Wakanda destroyed about five or six times. Phoenix 5 vampire invasion Thanos it's had its rough patches. But Dr Doom's kingdom ? Latveria? It's peaceful The only time it was invaded Dr Doom immediately surrendered. Went off killed the people responsible and took the kingdom back along with its neighbor That invaded. While Black Panther and Namor fought to the last of their people. He tried to free his country once and it went to hell and everyone basically begged for him to come back.
A reminder that Doom is one of the few people to survive meeting wakandas panther God…who kills all with impure hearts. She looked into his soul, and saw that the world would, indeed, be better off under his rule. So much so that she allowed Doom access to all of Wakanda's vibranium. She didn't like him…but couldn't deny the truth. Also let’s look at Doom’s relationship with Valeria Richards. If Doom was truly a villain he would have let her die (which would have devastated Reed and Sue) but he saved her life. He loves and cares for her deeply…and is a better father figure to her than Reed Finally…the people of Latvaria genuinely adores Doom and he loves his people Because of Doom there is no starvation, crime or homelessness in Latveria His people fear neither war or invasion because of Doom
He just saved Valeria life to prove a point : that he could do something Richards couldn't. Also, pretty sure that he's just grooming her to become a mini-him and the only excuse found to explain why he's a "good dictator" is because any person taking his place happen to strangely be "worst". Writers can d*ck-ride him all day long but in the end, it doesn't matter : Victor Von Doom is and always will be just a petty manchild seeking attention and validation... oh, and revenge on Reeds Richard because apparently, the Man at the Head of Latveria has somehow time for that and abuses his diplomatic immunity to never get arrested when doing crimes on American soil.
A lot of people here seem to be happy to give up freedom in exchange for prosperity - which will only lead to having neither. But maybe you'll be safe at the end of the day, as long as you don't think.
The whole point of Doom is that he is wrong, freedom is good and should be celebrated. Doom is death, while Reed is life, and at the end of Secret Wars, we realize that "everything lives."

I guess that's what makes Doctor Doom so special, he's an antagonist that can actually make the world safe. It's just how he goes about it is what makes him seem "evil" to others.
He's not a superheroes by far. But he does have admiral traits but it's over shadowed by his ego, cold method to achieve his goals/schemes by any means. His moral are out the window at times to achieve his goals. That is not a superheroes mindset.
The conflict and contradiction that one will typically run into in this situation is expressed in the same statement that I give my son many times to explain life and other's actions. Sometimes people do good things for the wrong reason, sometimes people do bad things for the right reason... And sadly, most people want to always believe that they're right irrespective of the consequences or in spite of them.
I have Triumph & Torment, bought it back in high school in the early 90s. Best Doom story ever. It took a couple years after this before continuity caught up w the book and had Doom’s mother’s soul free
Doctor doom is my favorite marvel character, he is a villain first but he is a self made man that genuinly wants to better the world. If done well he is nuanced anti villain that deserves respect.
Anyone see that Doom #1 that came out in May of this year (2024)? Written by John Hickman, it's awesome. I specifically like the variant cover with a close-up of his face, the thumbnail reminded me of the cover. One of the best Doom stories there is, and since Hickman wrote it, it'll go up in value. Pick one up now while they're cheap.
Thank you Rob, so many people tell me how evil he is and I've said countless times that while he has done terrible things he does have heart...I look at his relationship with Valeria as a clear example of how Doom can and is quite kind when he wants to....his run as Infamous Iron Man as well came from a place of redemption and self-actualization....to say he is evil is not understanding just how complex he is...I love Doom always have and always will

I believe that’s what makes Doom so interesting. The shadow of his ego constantly looms over everything he does. He can and does bring peace, but at what cost? Are there truly no other options for humanity to thrive than for Doom to be at their head? And if not, is it worth giving up freedom to be controlled, even if it is under a now peaceful reign? It’s all worth considering and all a part of what makes Doom so awesome.

@@oldylad I'll admit that Marvel Studios' films have been hit and miss as of late. Phase 4 certainly hasn't been off to a good start. But turning Tony Stark from another universe into their version of Doctor Doom sure isn't a bad idea. Both Doom and Iron Man wear armor. I mean, it made sense that Tony and Bruce made Ultron instead of Pym. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Tony's Iron Man designs became Sentinels to battle the X-Men.

Doom was judged by the Lion King of Wakanda (?, all i remember is he was stuck in a desert and had to prove himself worthy to survive from this godly lion creature). He kills a tiger barehanded and the deity grants him his armor back, even after he tells it his plans for domination hasn't changed (or something, it's been at least a decade since i read that comic).

The problem of Doom is that he only search for futures where he achieve the "stability" for human kind, he is unable to search for a future where he is not responsible of that (other solutions are simply... failures to him). It is true that a hard hand is needed for an effective goverment, but not at the cost of liberty of think and act (between certain limits).

The ideas and the points that Victor Von Doom makes are what makes him a good comic book character.

thanos isn't just a simp, you missed the whole symbolism and meaning of the character and his story just because the concept of death in marvel can take a humanoid form. thanos isn't a simp, he is a nihilist, his stories (when written by good writers) are about hope persevering even inside someone like thanos. the stories with thanos are all cosmic and wild on the surface but in reality they are the most human stories that can be written, cuz they deal with the constant struggle and search for meaning in our existence.

I doubt you'll see this, but after finishing this video, I had to leave a disclaimer: I'm not the biggest comic book reader, but I've developed a strong attachment to Dr. Doom as I've grown up. I'm a simple man, I see Doom, I click. Doom Quotes, Doom Best Moments, and very few of them are "good" at best. This is the best Dr.Doom video I have ever seen. The philosophical references to Plato's Republic, Immanuel Comps Categorical Imperative, and Carl Schmit are nothing short of impressive. If it wasn't for my love of Magneto, Doctor Doom would be my favorite comic book villain of all-time. So much lore and mythology that could be discovered in a movie.

The best type of villain is one that makes you question your own morals or ethics. Doctor Doom is that type of character. He didn't want anyone in his country to suffer like he did, so he took over the country. His, by any means necessary, mentality is an extrtreme version of what it means to be a monarch.
Doom is just the greatest comic book character to have ever been made along with many others imo.

Do you know what the joke is Atlantis has been destroyed dozens of times millions killed.Wakanda destroyed about five or six times. Phoenix 5 vampire invasion Thanos it's had its rough patches. But Dr Doom's kingdom ? Latveria? It's peaceful The only time it was invaded Dr Doom immediately surrendered. Went off killed the people responsible and took the kingdom back along with its neighbor That invaded. While Black Panther and Namor fought to the last of their people. He tried to free his country once and it went to hell and everyone basically begged for him to come back.
Moral of this story imo, Doom is correct.

A reminder that Doom is one of the few people to survive meeting wakandas panther God…who kills all with impure hearts.

He just saved Valeria life to prove a point : that he could do something Richards couldn't. Also, pretty sure that he's just grooming her to become a mini-him and the only excuse found to explain why he's a "good dictator" is because any person taking his place happen to strangely be "worst".

A lot of people here seem to be happy to give up freedom in exchange for prosperity - which will only lead to having neither. But maybe you'll be safe at the end of the day, as long as you don't think.
The whole point of Doom is that he is wrong, freedom is good and should be celebrated. Doom is death, while Reed is life, and at the end of Secret Wars, we realize that "everything lives."

For deontologists (such as Kant) it's *what is right*, which is defined in terms of fixed moral duties, and there are certain things we should never do, such as lying, killing, stealing, etc. Consequentialism on the other hand focuses on *what is good*, and what is right is merely defined in terms of what is going to achieve the good: if killing millions is going to achieve the good, then killing millions is right, hence the phrase "the end justifies the means". Doom thinks everything he does is justified because it's for achieving the better end, and that's a consequentialist perspective, not a deontological one (Kantian).

He's not a superheroes by far. But he does have admiral traits but it's over shadowed by his ego, cold method to achieve his goals/schemes by any means. His moral are out the window at times to achieve his goals. That is not a superheroes mindset.

The conflict and contradiction that one will typically run into in this situation is expressed in the same statement that I give my son many times to explain life and other's actions.
Sometimes people do good things for the wrong reason, sometimes people do bad things for the right reason... And sadly, most people want to always believe that they're right irrespective of the consequences or in spite of them.

I have Triumph & Torment, bought it back in high school in the early 90s. Best Doom story ever. It took a couple years after this before continuity caught up w the book and had Doom’s mother’s soul free

Doctor doom is my favorite marvel character, he is a villain first but he is a self made man that genuinly wants to better the world. If done well he is nuanced anti villain that deserves respect.
Anyone see that Doom #1 that came out in May of this year (2024)? Written by John Hickman, it's awesome. I specifically like the variant cover with a close-up of his face, the thumbnail reminded me of the cover. One of the best Doom stories there is, and since Hickman wrote it, it'll go up in value. Pick one up now while they're cheap.

Thank you Rob, so many people tell me how evil he is and I've said countless times that while he has done terrible things he does have heart...I look at his relationship with Valeria as a clear example of how Doom can and is quite kind when he wants to....his run as Infamous Iron Man as well came from a place of redemption and self-actualization....to say he is evil is not understanding just how complex he is...I love Doom always have and always will

I remember when Dr. Doom took the heart out of an asgardian. The asgardian died, then he placed the heart back in the asgardian's chest and he came back to life.
He even killed Kang during Secret Wars, and then brought him back to life to just show how forgiving and benevolent he was.

"a leader who knows what's right for the world" lol uh huh, a leader who will only fix the world as long as it's under his rule. i'm not so sure the idea that "i'm all the world needs" is really the same as knowing how to fix the worlds problems.
I believe that’s what makes Doom so interesting. The shadow of his ego constantly looms over everything he does. He can and does bring peace, but at what cost? Are there truly no other options for humanity to thrive than for Doom to be at their head? And if not, is it worth giving up freedom to be controlled, even if it is under a now peaceful reign?
It’s all worth considering and all a part of what makes Doom so awesome.

I know people try to equate large groups of people as a singular entity, but that's so they can deflect any harm done to a few as a necessary evil.

@@oldylad I'll admit that Marvel Studios' films have been hit and miss as of late. Phase 4 certainly hasn't been off to a good start.
But turning Tony Stark from another universe into their version of Doctor Doom sure isn't a bad idea. Both Doom and Iron Man wear armor.
I mean, it made sense that Tony and Bruce made Ultron instead of Pym. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Tony's Iron Man designs became Sentinels to battle the X-Men.

Doom was judged by the Lion King of Wakanda (?, all i remember is he was stuck in a desert and had to prove himself worthy to survive from this godly lion creature).

Sorry to be that girl, but “ the ends justify the means” is utilitarian, which Kant is opposed to. Utilitarian is more based on John Mills’ writings. Kant is more known for categorical imperative and what not. Also Kant is hugely against lying I guess Doom may be good there.
