There was a woman I was deeply in love with, and I remember one August night, when the air was liquid and balmy, the sky purple-black, the moon huge and golden, with stillness and quiet all around, I asked her to dance with me to this song. She had never before heard the song, and we had never before danced. And it was one of the warmest, closest, beautiful moments I ever shared with her. She sunk into me, and our step synched with our heartbeats, as I massaged her cheek with mine. We danced for a momentary eternity. I never wanted things to end, but they did. And it took me a decade to get over her.

I am currently reading the book and getting so much out of it. I am up to this scene in the book and it made me remember how years after my divorce from my first husband I went out on a walk and forgave him for the hurt he caused me though I knew I would never see him again. I was engaged to be married a second time and I needed to have this "meeting" so that I could let go of the pain which I did by the end of that walk. I only wish this song had been playing during it, LOL!

In subtle way i dissagree : i think that one can still love the other person/ex-lover forever even though they are divorced but just as long as they accept the fact that they are no longer with each other ie not married and not in their lives anymore.... Without a warning this scene got to me and I found myself tearing up. It's emotionally relatable even if your heart wasn't broken; you can feel the sadness and struggles they were going through.

I saw this movie 5 years ago, together with my wife. We are now in the process of separation after 14 years of marriage for very much the same reasons. Its hard holding in the tears, as I see myself in his shoes, trying to fight a loosing battle, questioning what did I do wrong or what could I have done different... In the end time heals everything and we will see the reason for all these more clearly.

The music was as important as the point the movie makes. This movie is quite "deep" in teaching us about our feeling and emotions. It's been a long time now... When I saw this scene i broke in tears because you can practically feel the pain the character... It was something more of related to the movie... Now, unfortunately i'm living this. Now is about to be 7 months since my last boyfriend broke up with me... and I still can't let him go... I hate him for making me love him so much that now i'm afraid i can't feel the same love i felt for him with another person. He was for me my true love and... the worst thing is that i still feeling the same thing. I know i'm an idiot and need to get over him soon but is hard... I saw this scene again and i'm in tears... I get it now. I watched Eat pray love many years ago and I just felt like watching it again yesterday. And I realized after all this year I've been grow up a lot too. I dont think everyone understands the message of this scene. Just like the reality when someone breaks up with someone.. many people do not understand that sometimes it just doesnt work and your not for each other. People always believe in the dumpee and the dumper and the dumper is an asshole. Sometimes you're only setting someone free despite they love you so much and it hurts them.
Today is Valentines Day and I forgave a friend of mine who had deeply hurt me. I love them. I'll miss them. I send light and love each time I think of them and finally was able to truly let go of the hate I'd been bearing against them. I wish them the best and you know what? The wound in my heart healed and I feel..good. Lighter. Happier. At peace with my memories of them. my mom used to tell me, how to be free of attachment (the basic ways) is to accept that you're attached, understand it and let it go. kinda difficult to explain it, in example : someone used to cheat my money, i feel sad & stupid, and feeling gloomy all along. My sifu (a monk) tell me to accept the reality that "yes I'am stupid, yes I'am sad coz I trust someone easily thats why I got cheated - so I need to be careful the next time". I feel so enlighted that time, someting this easy, sometimes we just can't see the light coz it's too bright to our eyes.. (I'm a buddhist btw)
Drop it ... let go ... move on ... if only it was that simple... Easy for her to say ... not so easy for him to actually do. I suspect if he truly loves her ... he will never be able to fully let go. He will be able to function. He will be able to engage in new relationships. It will not be obvious to others on the surface ... but well beneath the surface, where things of the heart truly matter ... that love will be there pining for nourishment that it knows it will never receive ... so while she will move on, at peace with her choices, he will carry the dull heartache of a beautiful love lost forever. Of course, letting go is a choice. Holding on to yesterday doesn't allow growth and for new opportunities. Holding on is like trying to change the past. You can only change yourself. I agree that it can be difficult at first, but understanding the road is hardly a straight one, only follow the turns and be watchful of new signposts that will lead to newness in discovering love. Live in the present, not the past or the future.

I saw this movie 5 years ago, together with my wife. We are now in the process of separation after 14 years of marriage for very much the same reasons. Its hard holding in the tears, as I see myself in his shoes, trying to fight a loosing battle, questioning what did I do wrong or what could I have done different... In the end time heals everything and we will see the reason for all these more clearly.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have been divorced 23 years, and I initiated it. I can't image how wrecked he felt. I am just now admitting the pain. It is ginormous. Hang in there. Gotta grief it, because something died, and if it hurts, that means it was a good thing, and it's a shame.

Honestly yes. If you really love someone you can’t be with you should send love and light. I love that message sometimes we feel so sad after a break up but if you really do love someone you wish them the best regardless of how you feel during a break up.

She is detached from her old self and trying to find her self. And although for her ex husband the pain and feelings are ongoing and present, for her this whole situation is more observatory. It's almost like when you've been loving doing something for years, and then one day grow out of it and look back and you know it's been huge part of you, but you just can't find anything that would click that passion again. This sort of transition type of feeling.

Just recently watched this movie while binge watching to get over a broken heart. This scene is just so incredible how it speaks to you. Helped me so much to stop the obsessive thinking I was doing. I still love him, but he didn't want me and now I am going to 'drop it' and let him go.

I have always really felt that, if there´s an smile in her face I am happy. It´s not hard neither far-fetched, since it´s wrong to regret something or someone that made me really happy.

The music was as important as the point the movie makes. This movie is quite "deep" in teaching us about our feeling and emotions. It certainly has helped me after loving someone for 20 plus years and watching it fade away. When I think of him I will love him, send him love and light and DROP IT!! That's the hard part and I'm still working on it.

It's been a long time now... When I saw this scene i broke in tears because you can practically feel the pain the character... It was something more of related to the movie... Now, unfortunately i'm living this. Now is about to be 7 months since my last boyfriend broke up with me... and I still can't let him go... I hate him for making me love him so much that now i'm afraid i can't feel the same love i felt for him with another person. He was for me my true love and... the worst thing is that i still feeling the same thing. I know i'm an idiot and need to get over him soon but is hard... I saw this scene again and i'm in tears... I get it now. I watched Eat pray love many years ago and I just felt like watching it again yesterday. And I realized after all this year I've been grow up a lot too. I dont think everyone understands the message of this scene. Just like the reality when someone breaks up with someone.. many people do not understand that sometimes it just doesnt work and your not for each other. People always believe in the dumpee and the dumper and the dumper is an asshole. Sometimes you're only setting someone free despite they love you so much and it hurts them.
Today is Valentines Day and I forgave a friend of mine who had deeply hurt me. I love them. I'll miss them. I send light and love each time I think of them and finally was able to truly let go of the hate I'd been bearing against them. I wish them the best and you know what? The wound in my heart healed and I feel..good. Lighter. Happier. At peace with my memories of them.
If I had anything to say to someone who has yet to do the same forgiveness is a selfless, selfish thing to do. You cry, scream and struggle but slowly the pain in your heart goes away. You'll feel lighter, less angry, and come to terms with the fact that although they aren't there anymore all that's left for you to give to them is a distant memory.

my mom used to tell me, how to be free of attachment (the basic ways) is to accept that you're attached, understand it and let it go. kinda difficult to explain it, in example : someone used to cheat my money, i feel sad & stupid, and feeling gloomy all along. My sifu (a monk) tell me to accept the reality that "yes I'am stupid, yes I'am sad coz I trust someone easily thats why I got cheated - so I need to be careful the next time".

Drop it ... let go ... move on ... if only it was that simple... Easy for her to say ... not so easy for him to actually do. I suspect if he truly loves her ... he will never be able to fully let go. He will be able to function. He will be able to engage in new relationships. It will not be obvious to others on the surface ... but well beneath the surface, where things of the heart truly matter ... that love will be there pining for nourishment that it knows it will never receive ... so while she will move on, at peace with her choices, he will carry the dull heartache of a beautiful love lost forever. I am far enough along in life to know that there are some loves you simply cannot let go of or truly move on from ... usually associated with marriage. Some things do last forever ... true love does. If you have ever been there and experienced a scene similar to this, you know. Heartbreaking...
Of course, letting go is a choice. Holding on to yesterday doesn't allow growth and for new opportunities. Holding on is like trying to change the past. You can only change yourself. I agree that it can be difficult at first, but understanding the road is hardly a straight one, only follow the turns and be watchful of new signposts that will lead to newness in discovering love. Live in the present, not the past or the future.
