    I nominate the Toyota BZ4X. What people don’t realize is that the BZ4X has terrible charging speed. Most people would think that wouldn’t apply to them and they don’t have to worry about it until they end up behind a Bz4X on line to charge at a public charger.
    The Lexus RZ sucks too.

      The Mercedes EQA is very popular in Germany. I think the main reason for it is the image of Mercedes!
      I think the EQA is not bad, but it is overpriced and cars like the Ioniq 5 are simply better!
      Mini has reduced the price of its EVs but still charging speed is not brilliant. The Renault R 5 on the other hand is the same price as the mini.
      It offers more space, but still it is too expensive!!

    Hi
    I bought a 2022 mini cooper electric last year. It cost me us$ 22000. New it cost $44000. I charge it 100% from my rooftop solar for free.
    Vehicle is well built, nicely finished and real fun to drive. Range is 200km and so as a town car it is great. Handles better than most evs because of lighter and smaller battery.
    No subsidies here in South Africa.
    But I wouldn't pay $45000 for any electric car.
    Sadly only 200 pure evs sold per month in South Africa!,,

      6 months of usage says absolutely nothing, I can't imagine a car brand with cars that break within 6 months, use it for 10-15 years and then report back your experience, that should give a crystal clear picture. BTW I still have a FIAT Stilo with 21 years. I'll keep using it till it no longer works just out of curiosity of it's durability and to have a clear picture of the difference between ICE cars and EVs. But It's nice to have EVs early adopters so their experience can be a source of data to make future decisions. Anyway EVs are many years away from being mature. I would say at least 20 years are need to iron out the issues.

    Fiat has some fantastic lease deals in the US on the 500e (including $0 down $0/mo in Colorado, you just pay tax), we actually picked one up in CA for $199/mo and it's a great car for a short commute. It was a good solution for the next 3 years until the EV market matures and there are better affordable options. We also have a model S for road trips so we're covered.

    •  Місяць тому

      Those $0 Fiats (available only if you live in Colorado) are a great deal if you can get one. The dealer that is offering them has leased a lot of them and keeps receiving more cars from Stellantis. It's not a road trip car with that limited range, but if you're looking for a city and suburban car they can't be beat for the price.

    • @skp115
      @skp115 Місяць тому +1

      I don’t understand how leasing works in the US but even the worst leases there look so attractive for us in Australia
      At 199 per month for 36 months you seem to be going to pay circa 7200 which is an absolute bargain. In Australia any lease you can get probably will end up paying almost 70 per cent of the msrp of the car over the 3 or 5 years term. How is financing so cheap in the USA. We have no such financing products here. What happens after the 36 months?

    • @multicamzilla4669
      @multicamzilla4669 Місяць тому

      @@skp115 There are two major factors in this case. Stellantis is desperate to get rid of these cars, and the EV tax incentives and rebates in the US and certain states in particular allow them to offer these deals. I agree the $7200 would be less than the depreciation on a Tesla in 3 years and the insurance is much less expensive, so if you don't need the range and enjoy a city car that's easy to park anywhere and fun to drive, it's a great option.

    •  Місяць тому

      @@skp115 The leasing company takes the car back and sells it, either to the lessee or to somebody else. The most favorable leases are normally on cars that hold value well and can thus be resold at a fairly high price after two or three years. The leasing company also gets some tax benefits. Even with those attractive numbers, leasing is usually not quite as good a deal for the driver as buying, though it offers the flexibility of simply walking away from the car when the lease ends and not facing the risk of its value dropping. EVs are a notable exception because the current version of the $7,500 federal tax credit has restrictive rules about the price of the car, the income of the buyer, and where the car and its battery are built, but ALL leased EVs are eligible for the credit.
      The insane lease deal on the Fiat 500e in Colorado is because Stellantis is trying to get rid of the things. The Fiat 500e has sold poorly because of its small size and limited range, and the poor brand reputation Fiat has in the US. Another thing that makes it possible is that the leasing company is getting the $7,500 federal tax credit (that car would not be eligible for that credit if you bought it outright but it IS eligible if you lease it) and an additional $5,000 incentive from the state of Colorado -- so they're not actually getting $0 for the lease, they're getting $12,500 up front, it's just coming from the government rather than the lessee. Another benefit for the dealer is that moving them out gets them larger allocations of other Stellantis vehicles that they can make a bigger profit on.
      That poor brand reputation? The Fiat brand has been present in the US four times: from 1908 through 1917, from the 1950s through 1983, from 2011 through 2020 (following the purchase of Chrysler by Fiat), and from 2024 on (now under the Stellantis name, a company that formed as a merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA, which was itself formed as a merger of Peugeot and Citroen). The reputation mostly comes from the 50s through 80s presence, when the company's cars were known for problems with mechanical unreliability and body rust. People joked that the brand stood for Fix It Again Tony. The Fiat 500 (the gas powered version) was the only Fiat-branded car the company sold during that period (plus limited sales of the previous version of the 500e in a few states as a compliance car), though the Dodge Journey was also a Fiat design; both were built in a plant in Toluca, Mexico. The 2024 relaunch of the brand in the US only includes the electric version, the Fiat 500e.

    Decided to buy an EV around June 2022. After much research, test driving, pros and cons etc. I purchased a new Mini EV in March 2023 (the dealership threw in a fitted 7.5 kw home charger to sweeten the deal). It was the best match for my requirements and it's sooooooo fun to drive. Worst experience was the MG4, it was like driving around in a lurching tin of beans. The I.D.4 was unimpressive as was the Cupra Born and the Renault Megan (getting that test drive was difficult and totally not worth the effort). The Fiat 500e was quite good. The Nissan Leaf was pretty good too. The offerings from Citroen were tragic. The Tesla range had quality issues, couldn't afford the Porsche and I didn't need an SUV or a family sized vehicle. So via a point scoring objective investigation and personal experience of driving lots of EV offerings, I decided on the Mini and I am not disappointed in the slightest. It is overpriced, but they all are, even the MG4 (which I wouldn't buy at half the price).

    Mini is pitched as a premium product and has been since it's modern reincarnation by BMW. This hasn't stopped them selling by the bucketload. What matters to most people is how many GBP/US$/EUR or whatever it it a month along with the kudos of having a Mini. Point is a high list price doesn't make the Mini EVs a bad car and it seems arbitary that they are included for that reason.

    I dont think there is one metric that defines the best or worst EVs. Context is very important with EVs. I drive a Gen1 2019 Hyundai Ioniq BEV. By today's standards the range is low (around 230-240 km) the charging speed is modest and performance is relaxed. But it is one of the best cars I have owned. It is uncomplicated quite lightweight and very efficient. It has all the electronic aids and is very comfortable. For short trips and round trips up to around 220 km I tend to choose it rather than my wife's Model 3. If it was being sold in 2024 it would probably be in your Ten Worst, but its still a gem and I wont sell it.

    One thing I notice about this car is how well it handles high winds - from any direction. Another nice thing is the word MINI is projected on the ground when either front doors are opened, this stays on for a couple of minute's. This is very handy when exiting the car in the evening or in a dark garage. You don't get these items (and many more) in cheaper EV cars.

    The BYD ATTO 3 is a fantastic car. The build quality is excellent and it’s a good performer plus It’s priced appropriately for too. I hear your point about potential competitors coming in the future, but your video is about cars in 2024 (as owe the title of the video), so based on this I think that adding the ATTO to the ‘near miss’ top 10 is not fair. Also the potential future competitors are not proven in Australian conditions yet either.

It doesn't have small additions like the seal for example, like a huds, ventilated seats, etc but that doesn't pull away from the car at all.. what it does have is all the technology you'd typically want to have in a car, including being high off the road as an SUV, and comfortable to drive. These are subjective opinions, I'm not single but a family man, with kids, I've taken the atto on very long trips and get aways, to the beach, used it for various things from every day life to the shops to holidays, it fits a general purpose car in all situations and has stood the test of time for over a year I've had it. It's a great car which is why I went with another byd in December but this time a little more luxury in the sedan. The atto is still my favourite though.

Apparently here the rz sticker from lexus is being reduced by $10k. Milage driving on the highway at 75mph it gets full to empty about 250 miles about 3.6miles/kWh. In the city i get about 300 miles or 4.3miles per kwh. Battery is 72kwh for the front wheel drive version. So for the money by far i like the RZ the best.
