@@zetetick395 🤣
the quality of this bluray is impressive, i honestly thought this was a 90s movie by how crispy clear it looks
One of the few times upgrading a film that was never shot in HD to HD quality looks damn good.
@@alucard624, film is HD.
This movie is a story straight outta Heavy Metal magazine.
Ivan Reitman produced this film along with "Heavy Metal: The Movie".
Harold Ramis also did some voice work in Heavy Metal.
Except the movie should have been R-rated to fulfill it's Heavy Metal potential.
Michael Ironsides played the villain in Heavy Metal 2000.
2 of the writers also worked on the "HEAVY METAL" movie. It looks and feels like something from the magazine... and Elmer Bernstein did the music!! I'm watching a sci-fi movie marathon right now, and I actually wound up enjoying this MORE than "RETURN OF THE JEDI". Who'da thunk it? My best friend and I did see this the weekend it came out. I've liked Molly Ringwald ever since seeng this. I've always suspected her character in this was based on "Nikki" from the Steve Gerber-Al Milgrom run of "GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY".
I still can't get over the fact that Molly Ringwald was in this .
Lol I thought it was her. Then I thought nah. Till I saw the end of the vid.
We all have to start somewhere. But yes.
Studio Exec A: Molly Ringwald in Star Wars
Studio Exec B: SOLD!
@@nullterm It was before she was a 'name', really.
"Hah, that's funny. That girl looks like Molly Ringwald. I guess maybe it's the short haircut and eyeliner?" "Oh shit it's actually Molly Ringwald."
“Oh, he card read good”
I have food all over my phone 🤣
Terrific! This is one of my guilty pleasures - Michael Ironside, mad '3D' effects and bloated maggot pod people. What's not to love?
I love this movie. I wish there'd been more installments. There's a place for mid-level Science Fiction. Not everything needs to be a giant epic.
Please visit Disneys offices with a megaphone
Saw this in the theater when it first came out.
Yes, I'm that old...
Old and have really poor taste in movies 🤪
oh lord, so did I.
I saw this when it came out in theaters. The 3D was really over the top, especially Overdog's weapon all up in your face. It was overdone is such a way that made the cheesiness excusable, actually a pretty good watch.
It's a shame no one will do a 3d bluray, since the tech is dying in the home market
This film has one of my favourite lines, "I tried maintenance procedure one." to which the android reply's "arr, you kicked it."
It has one of my favourites too - "Why can't anything be simple anymore?"
I watched this over and over on HBO as a kid. Recently watched it on crackle. It was good and odd.
lol
10:27, great voice cameo by the great Harold Ramis RIP, oh including co-star Ernie Hudson and producer Ivan Reitman, hmm, I wonder what's their next project during production through 1983-1984, OMG I don't know. lol This is one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies in the 80s.
"in 2021 there was a plague outbreak" ooooh, so close!
ATTN Hollywood: Keep making bad movies so we get more GoodBadFlicks!!
ASMarred
Nowadays, bad movies have too much dialogue that’s written and acted like a terrible soap opera.
Oh, we don't have to worry about that.
@TheGreaterGood80 I want whatever gets us more videos on here. If its a bunch of Vin Diesel crap, fine. Ill dust off my Traxx VHS for good bad.
@TheGreaterGood80 I prefer the former versus the latter. The latter completely destroyed a franchise that didn't even need to BE a franchise for that matter. I miss cheesy B movies that had a lot of heart and effort put into them with a low budget.
When I think of the 1980's, I think of "dressy" sweat pants, the booming snare drum in every song and schlocky 3-D movies like this.
"You're like flyshit on the window...Any little breeze that blows and you're gone". Always loved that line.
I remember watching this on HBO on Saturday morning. I like the villain, the set-pieces, and Ernie Hudson's character. However, I was baffled as to why they killed the robot after just getting hit buy one laser
Probably because she contained detailed activity logs.
@@mahna_mahna Some people just don't know how to fix things properly so they throw them away (That's how I got my laptop LOL)
I swear every movie this guy does has someone in the comment section go "I saw this on HBO back in the 80s/90s". I grew up in the 2000s and it was the same story for me.
In space....no can hear you
“getting lonely.”
Finally, after all these years, I find someone else who would've liked a sequel.
I sat in the theater, credits rolling, and thought... Not actually all that good, but WHAT A BLAST! I WANT MORE!
A heartfelt thanks to you, and maybe we could get a 30th Anniversary BluRay special release if we start doing whatever it takes to get it done by the time we get there...
Ha ha, I was saying "Snoo Snoo" the same time the video did. Ha ha. I love that episode "Please ladies. The spirit is willing. But the flesh is battered and bruised."
The great Bea Arthur did the voice of the computer that ruled over the giant Amazons in the episode. :)
That's one of my childhood favourites. I've watched the VHS so many times, it wore out and broke.
The Earth Girls are Easy joke had me cracking up. Great video as always.
Thanks!
Red Letter Media just did a video on this film. It's incredible to see your take on it versus theirs.
Good work lad, keep it up!
Thanks!
Ah, memories of a grubby Molly Ringwald..
I was 12 yrs old when I saw the non 3d version in 1983 and still enjoy it today. I wonder if the sequel to Cameron's Avatar will revitalize the 3d craze again.
I doubt it: it seems unlikely that lightning can strike twice and it's natural that 3D returned in late 2000's to 2010's, since crazes kinda go in thirty-years cycles.
The only reason to watch a 3D movie in the 80s
was to turn around in the darkened cinema and laugh at a whole room fulla ppl all looking like proper twonks in their cardboard glasses 🤣
"I wonder if Overdog inspired Gwar?" Got me so good
Yeah, lol. I wonder just how many of these youngsters, nowadays, even know who Gwar is?
I don't understand. It did.
I'm sure it was one of the influences, Hunter Jackson was into Sci Fi.
@@jeffdemas9521 Yep. Everyone into sci fi saw this at least once.
How many times did I watch this one on cable growing up? Far, far too many. Still one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures!
The "I lied!" line was worth watching the whole film for! :)
Echoed by Ahnold in "Commando".
Remember when I watched this movie on VHS around 1990. As a kid I was in love with Niki ♥️😂😁
It's pleasant to see that, aside from occasional slips here and there, people actually made an effort when making this movie. They were trying to make something decent and it shows.
okay this has been one of those unicorn films i never seem to recall. For some reason i was allowed to watch this all the times as a kid when my grandparents watched me on their VHS player, and i could never remember anything besides the annoying girl and the strange car. I literally spent hours looking through lists to find it.
Saw this on TV in the late 80s, bought the VHS and have loved this movie ever since! Michael Ironside is one of my favorite actors. Thanks for the review!
Moon Patrol... Thanks for making me almost choke on my lunch 😜
I love this movie! Also introduced me to the awesomeness that is Michael Ironside.
hahahaha I came here looking for moon patrol comments before posting! lol
Oh man, I always loved this movie as a kid! Watched it just a few months ago and... it doesn't hold up, lol! But it was still fun. Seeing these actors so many years later and knowing their other roles is very cool. (I'm looking at you Ernie Hudson and Michael Ironside!)
Interesting, Ernie and Michael did appear in an episode of "The A-Team" around the time this film came out.
saw this in theaters in 3D
Did you like it? The review made it seem fun.
@@Delightfully_Bitchy it's a fun b movie def keep your expectations low :)
This movie was 50% "Star Wars" and 50% "Ghostbusters"
I always thought it was a little more derivative or the road warrior
Make a little % for Ice Pirates.
I'm surprised that the Ghostbusters ties were not mentioned more.
And 50% breakfast club
Ghostbusters? I find nothing of Ghostbusters in this, Mad MAx sure but no Ghost Busters. Just because it's got a ghostbusters actor in it? It seems to me you haven't even seen the movie.
This is why I love this channel. I had never heard of this movie but so many big stars were involved! Plus I was just telling a friend to watch Turbo Kid yesterday. Lol
Molly Ringwald, had some great lines and she delivered them perfectly.
"In 2021, there was a plague outbreak."
LOVED your inclusion of the stinger at the end. Friggin hilarious, classic way to end videos! Also I'm gonna have to track this movie down and give it a watch, looks really enjoyable according to our standards!
Thanks!
Saw it on TV late at night when I was a kid. It was awesome!
Honestly, I love this channel You review all my favorite movies that nobody else seems to watch or like. Keep it up.
I remember this movie fondly. It was cheesy as hell, but you could tell that a lot of heart went into it. Ringwald's character was ACTUALLY what they intended, a spunky yet endearing character, instead of just an annoying stupid kid, as so often happens. The ol' adventure trope of heroes drifting from crazy encounter to crazy encounter until they reach the bad guy was done well here. I need to watch this one again.
(Also, the dig at Fallout '76 was pretty damn funny!)
Slamming job Cecil on a childhood favorite of mine which I still don't mind til this day IMHO.
Saw this when I was ten or twelve, loved it then, could never remember the name of it.
Overlooked detail at 2:10. Chief Engineer Seriously Sexylegs was reading R.U.R. - Rossum’s Universal Robots - by Karel Capek. It was the introduction of the word “robot.”
Oh man I had forgotten this movie. Really liked it as a kid.
Saw this movie many years ago and also Hell Comes To Frogtown around the same time. For the longest of time my mind spliced them together and my memory recalled them as one movie.
>the trash barricade
>Fallout 76
I see what you did there :^)
I wasn't even alive when Molly Ringwald became famous, but I still think she was mad cute.
I wouldn't mind being passed around by those swamp, snake, whatever women...
This was the only movie I found her to be really cute in.
So this movie is kinda the idea of the making of "Stargate" since both are explorating new planets . Michael Ironside most underrated actor . He's really excellent in whatever role he plays ( Scanners , V tv-show , Starship Troopers to name a few )
The fat monsters were supposed to be bat monsters but there was a typo. Stan Winston went with fat and the director loved it. True story.
I saw this movie in the theater - TWICE! - in 3D on the original release. It's a major favorite of my youth, and holds up today to most of the '80's Sci-Fi/Westerns. Thanks for covering it.
Ironside's delivery of "I lied" is fucking perfect!
Ironside, Hudson, and that awesome desert pirate ship? Count me in.
I knew the cinematographer for this film Frank Tidy he was a great guy with lots of stories about the movie industry. When I met him for the first time he mentioned that he worked on this film and a few others like The Duellists and I told him that Spacehunter was one of my favourite films he was quite surprise that I had watched the movie.
Man i love your channel! It has served me of so much inspiration to continue pursuing my dream of becoming a filmmaker! Thanks for making these! Keep em coming!
This was one of my favourite films as a kid. Michael Ironside is great.
He's always reliable as a villain, and the more over the top the character, the better he plays him. I saw an interview once where he said he would rather play the bad guy because you have so much latitude for performance. If you play the hero, you are constrained by the way that the audience expects a good guy to behave, but as a vilain, you have an open invitation to be as insane as you you like :)
This was fun. RIP Pleasure Bot. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
(Could still bodge something together with the spare parts......just make sure the spaceship console cameras have stickers over them first)
Wow! I’m shocked that Molly Ringwald and Ernie Hudson was in this film. Cool!!!
Seen it at the time here in France.
Absolutely loved it! And Ringwald was a complete crush for me, damn!
0:29 Good Bad Flicks just made a reference to a recent video game. The reality feels somehow broken.
I was six years old when I saw this movie! it had a lasting effect on my young imagination. I searched your channel and I didn't see Ice Pirates. PLEASE review Ice Pirates!!!
"Death by snu snu", seriously the funniest line you've ever said. I doubt many know where's it's from lol. Good stuff!
OfficialJesseStone Futurama ?
Yes, definitely Futurama! Lol
I'm pretty sure with his audience, there'd doubt that many people DON'T know where it's from.
Brandon Page thanks
I saw it in the theaters, in 3D. I was good fun schlock back then and is now. Now many people appreciate it.
*Fun Fact:* The Oingo Boingo song 'Forbidden Zone' was the basis for the Dilbert theme.
9:07 That movie rules!
so happy have finally done this
:)
Harold Ramis doing a voice about the parking tickets!!
This was in 3D, and I enjoyed it the theatre. I have a sneaking suspicion that this was one of the first 3D movies of the then-new generation of 3D movies with polarised glasses - with "Comin' At Ya!" being the first one.
I remember Leonard Nimoy covering the making of this on his old Nickelodeon show, "Lights, Camera, Action." Caught a few minutes of a TV-edit of this years later, and recognized Archangel's assistant from "Airwolf" (Troian Bellisario's future mother) was one of the three captured women Wolff had to rescue.
"You can't leave a ginger in a toaster this long" lol
YES! Back into 80s space SciFi, and with a homerun. Now how bout Ice Pirates.
Factoid, Le Matos, who did the soundtrack of Tubrokid, has a track called Overdog in one of their albums
I love the Scrambler and the rocket attachment for his pistol. And Wolff...
There is some really great Production Design in the film . Really cool
My nan bought me this on VHS for my 7th birthday. Legend.
Gotta be honest, if pleasure bots like that existed today It would be *hard* to resist :D
"We make holes in teeth" cavity creeps!
"Commander robot sexy legs" PMSL. Not a great time to have just taken a sip of my tea lol.
That Moon Patrol clip brought back memories
Really loved the Moon Patrol joke. I remember this film very fondly watched it all the time on HBO.
I saw this in a theater when it came out (I'm wicked old). I remember the audience laughing at the unintentional humor of the dialog at a few points. ("We have blood loss here!") Also, both Ringwald's voice and her character were like fingernails on a blackboard.
You can see why Moly Ringwald became such a star after this, with those acting chops.
8:22 Man, I love this shot! Impressive art work there! =)
how in the heck did this not get covered long ago? Happy it was now
"In 2021 there was a plague outbreak and a dictatorship" too real.
Whatever you say about this movie it’s certainly more interesting to view. Real practical sets and props and beautiful mat paintings, certainly more interesting then the overdose of CGI that plagues modern cinema. Immediately after watching this I bought the Blu-ray on eBay, awesome.
I remember watching this on TNT late at night in the 90s. I didn't even recognize Michael Ironsides and never realized it was him until now.
I really liked the whole thing with the digging ship as IIRC it was used as a plot point with a rival bounty hunter later.
Not only does it get lonely in outer space, for a lot of guys it's no day at Chuck-E-Cheese's on Earth. That's why these films will have a market where-ever it's 2 in the morning, the whiskey's run dry, and it's been a mullonium since the sexbot blew up.
Your sarcasm still works, enjoyable always
Nikki makes her way through Sen's Fortress... not gonna lie, that cracked me up :D
Turbo Kid gets a shout out
Of all the films ever to contain Michael Ironside, BMX bikes and Gnome Sticks - Turbo Kid was the best
Colin Mochire is one of the most underrated comedians alive right now and I love that THIS was his first movie
I am stealing "Commander Sexy Legs " as new nickname for my girlfriend.
It should be her new nickname for you!
@D Zuke Sponsored by "Overshare", because nobody wanted to hear that.
@@alucard624 disagree. Seems 35 people wanted to hear that.
@@DashingPunkSamurai 35 people are retards.
I saw it in 3D when it came out. All I remember was the part where there was a closeup on the main character while he was driving his vehicle and it was like his face was right in front of you in the theater. I'm going to have to watch it again.
Ironside, Hudson, and Ringwald? Count me in!
Wow, I never knew that Obscurus Lupa was an actress.... and here I thought that you two only collaborated twice. Learn something new everyday!
They used play this movie often on showtime & HBO in early 80s. A watchable campy sci-fi.
"In 2021 there was a plague outbreak".
Oof.
