I wouldn't have been angry if I were one of the people who had been huge fans of the 2D Zelda titles if I was alive back then, since the fight with Ganondorf (and, by proxy, the fight with Phantom Ganon) is a reference to the fights with Agahnim in ALttP, where you play the most deadly game of badminton of all time. Not true, he was named in the game. Did you even read the cutscenes when rescuing the maidens? Good grief! One of the maidens explains that Ganondorf a king of thieves was the one who found the triforce by chance/accident (link accidently lead him right to it and opened the Door for him) and then became Ganon the wicked king of evil who warped the sacred realm into the dark world.
Nintendo has been hard pressed to surpass the majesty of this fight. A final one-on-one stand against evil in it's purest form, your weapon removed and surrounded by a wall of flames and a thunderstorm made manifest by dark forces. It was never just Link, Ganon and Zelda in that arena. With the swelling of the music, you could feel the weight of the eyes of the Sages and all of Hyrule watching on, helpless to intercede.
Twilight Princess is the one that rivals it for me. I love the fact that's dosen't do anything big or over the top just a one on one sword duel between Ganondorf and Link but Oot still has the best atmosphere for me
Friendly reminder that kids playing this back in the 90’s couldn’t see shit on their old CRT TVs other than Ganon’s glowing eyes and the thunder occasionally giving them brief flashes of his final form. I’ve just scared myself thinking about that...
I will never forget how epic that battle was as a kid. The intense battle music, the wall of fire around you, and that mini heart attacks this battle gave me.
And how Zelda doesn't do anything to help, and just screams every time you get hit, grating your ears, how Ganon auto-targets you after you grab the Master Sword back, how Ganon chops up pieces of his own castle that give you everything you need to defeat him, how Zelda decides that it's somehow a better idea to seal Ganon away instead of just letting Link kill him instead... ah, great memories.
@@dominicbonogofski Always took it as Ganon was too powerful to be killed, considering Link just stabbed him through the fucking head yet he gets up and starts flailing around, instead of, y'know, just laying there and dying from being impaled through the damn skull.
@@carnage0685 he could've at least been given the opportunity to cut Ganon's limbs off, making Ganon completely helpless even if he did return because he'd just be a torso and a head. Or they could have burned him alive into a pile of ash, or fed him to a bunch of ReDeads, any number of things, really.
The fact that we remember this fight now as adults, reminiscing our childhood. This game is a metaphor for everything we go through growing up. Time is the key to everything.
My life was so bad when I was a kid and this game made me understand that the good always will win against evil. But you have to fight! Now I'm a 36y grown man. Thank you Shigeru.
The most epic final boss in my opinion. The battle was thrilling, even though it was a bit easy. The song helped the most, as well as the background in the game. Fucking lightning, fire, dark sky, it set the mood.
Not to mention in the original Nintendo 64 version all you could really make out of Ganon's features was glowing eyes, horns, and the fact he had those huge swords! The only time where you could get a good look at him was when there was a flash of lightning.
I love Kingdom Hearts most of all but there is no denying the majesty that is The Legend of Zelda franchise...this final boss battle is definitely one of the tops alongside Safer Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII and Bowser of Super Mario 64 if not "the" absolute top of the charts.
The lack of a subtitle, the almost sad music, the darkness of the arena, only lit by dim fire and occasional lightning, losing the Master Sword, Zelda’s horrified screams every time Link gets hit. This is the coolest and most beautiful final boss in probably any Zelda game ever.
Man, there’s so much emotion to this theme. Makes me think that the events that took place during this fight were immensely tragic. Which would make sense, since not only did Ganondorf transform into the monster that would plague Hyrule for all eternity but he also severed any sort of humanity he had left to transform into a beast of hatred and malice. That’s how I see it anyway.
The worst part is is regardless of the outcome it makes no difference as Hyrules is going to be left in ruins no matter what. Adult Timeline Ganondorf breaks free from his prison and eventually he and Hyrule are forever lost within the great sea. Downfall Timeline Ganon having killed Link and obtain the complete Triforce conquers Hyrule before being sealed away again but not before causing mass damage to Hyrule and corrupting the sacred realm. Child Timeline Although it lasted longer than the other timeline eventually Hyrule is left in ruins because of Calamity Ganon. The Zelda series is much darker when you think more about what happens after this battle.
@@AxisChurchDevotee Actually, _Breath Of The Wild_ seems to take place sometime after all three timelines converge Into one, causing what I call the Convergence Timeline.

@@yourmum69_420 you're just blinded a tiny bit too much by nostalgia. Botw has good as fuck story. Neary as good as Oot, but the only thing that makes it fall behind Oot is the lack of dungeons, dungeon items, and the final boss, which I nicknamed "Mr. Target Practice". And one more thing is that Botw has almost no soundtrack. But you have to admit that the fact that nothing is limiting you from most stuff from the moment you get off the plateau is insane.
All that's left is an orphan that has traveled through time and countless dangers before him. Having the weight of the godesses destiny on your chest when your still technically just a little child. And the purest embodiment of demises curse of evil, this is that fateful fight that nobody ever forgot.
Subtle details make this one of the greatest final boss fights. The way Zelda screams when Ganon hits you is just heart wrenching. Such an amazing ending to a wonderful game.
This remix really puts the battle into perspective: You are the last hope for the saving of Hyrule, it's life hanging by a thread, and your best weapon was just taken from you. There is nothing left for you to do except try to defeat the monster who is so terrifying and horrific and well known that he needs no introduction: Ganon. It's not an intense energizing theme, it's very solemn and reminds you just how close to death you, and Hyrule, are. This is the song I feel a final boss like Ganon should have, a song to make the player go, "Oh... Shit..."
The worst part is is regardless of the outcome it makes no difference as Hyrule is going to be left in ruins no matter what. Word. For me it was like, we went through all that planning and journeying. Volcanoes, forests, oceans... Time, and when it came for our efforts to come to fruition... o o p s. Lost the master sword.
@@AxisChurchDevotee Convergence Timeline Ganondorf is killed at long last, but creates Calamity Ganon to unleash an unholy apocalyptic retribution until he resurrects and is again woken up by Link and Zelda.
The art used in this mix highlights something very important which was lost in the remake: The battle was in a very dark scenario. You could see Ganon but most of his features were darkened and were only visible thanks to lightning or sparks. This added a lot to the ambience of the fight. In the remake, they made everything more colorful and illuminated, which took away some of the athmosphere.
Here's a chilling thought: Imagine a form of Calamity Ganon that heavily resembled OOT's Ganon. The same basic form, clad in the same attire with elements of TP Ganon, but now covered in magenta flames and Malice, And now empowered by the Triforce Of Power and Ganondorf's memories and cunning, fully sentient and full of rage. Wielding one of the OOT Ganon's swords in one hand, The Trident Of Power in the other. A dark storm looming over the battlefield, thunder and lightning flashing as a torrential downpour of rain falls, the land lit only by the flashes of lightning and Ganon's magenta flames. This needs to be a thing for BOTW 2 or a third entry.
@@thegameknight8916 yeah that's the hard part. Might as well try to get the idea popular by spreading the idea across UA-cam and since Coronavirus is slowing everything like this down unless Nintendo has already came up with an idea we may have a chance at having this happen.
Honestly, aside from Twilight Princess, this final battle was just so epic. We knew that Ganondorf was a bad man, who could do bad things, and we got to see it first hand after the time skip when Link became an adult. Then after beating him in his castle, on his home turf, he comes out and uses the Triforce of Power to turn into a true evil pig monster. Then, it was just you, the Bearer of Courage, and him, Master of evil, one on one. But it felt so much more then that. It felt like this was a true final battle, one that everyone across Hyrule, the sages, hell even all of time was witnessing but couldn't interfere. Not even Zelda could, until the final moments of course. It's a grueling final boss fight...but when you deliver that final blow, as all hell breaks loose around you and lightning splits the sky....god what a feeling.
If TLoU's biggest strength is how it tells a simple story in a perfect way, OoT's biggest strength is how it masterfully portrays a theme as simple as good vs evil. After the time skip the world has been ruined by the evil of Ganondorf and Link, one by one, starts purging that evil form every corner of the kingdom unti it all reaches this point. The final battle between good and evil. Between light and darkness. This song represents all of Hyrule nervously holding it's breath during this battle. The battle that will define everyone's fate.
That was probably the bravest think any fairy has ever said in all 3 timelines. Navi was often hated for her hand holding, but she stuck by him until the very end. Remember, it wasn't just Link who fell in the downfall timeline, but Navi too.
“The Demon King of Old, the ancient darkness shows his face. Demise of Ganon has revealed itself: the scourge of Hyrule. Surrounding the Hero with fire on every side, the beast deflects the Sword that seals the Darkness out of his hand, as he now uses the weapons and knowledge of his journey. “
I've always liked to see it as though this event marks the moment when the curse of Demise awakened within Ganondorf, which is what essentially "created" Ganon. Up to that point, Ganondorf really was just a man, the once-a-century male born to the Gerudo tribe. He had a pair of evil witches who served as his mothers and likely trained him in the ways of dark magic and to be hateful and resentful of Hylians. He came to the King of Hyrule under the pretense of making an alliance when in reality he sought the way to the Triforce so that he could claim ultimate power. He obtains part of the Triforce and rules as a despot for a period of time, but is eventually challenged and overthrown in battle. Unable to accept this as his fate, he calls upon the Triforce of Power in a way that he had not done before, and the result is that the curse of Demise now manifests in him in the form of Ganon.
And clearly the best villain in all of video games it's really a shame how pathetically easy most of the Ganon battles are dispite him having so much power
@@babouchemaxime I hope Nintendo fixes this in the Breath of the Wild sequel and makes him feel as hard to beat as he is powerful so we can fear this guy more

How to see GANON in this fight and how they presented it without a title like demon king or something : U came from playing The Legend of Zelda + adventure of link + A link to the past and see what that demon did to hyrule and it’s habitants. When he transforms it’s the First time u see the origin of this beast and how he come to be GANON This is the one who did everything. If u don’t stop it now he will do what u already know in the past games.
This remix would be the best theme to use if they made a Zelda game that was canonically the final one in the timeline and you are able to finally able to end the conflict by truly stopping Ganon. Maybe even find a way to break the curse Demise put on Zelda and Link for so long.
Sweet battle. "Ganon, incantation of evil" "You will no longer spread your suffering and malice upon Hyrule Lord Ganon." yelled Zelda "You think a mere boy can stop me? I am power eternal. I will bring suffering to any I choose and there is no one who can stop me." Ganon stammered. "Your wrong there is one who can... A man of bravery and selflessness. You have met your match Ganon. The power of the Gods will imprison you, and you shall feel the pain of those you have made suffer. Link is no mere mortal. Like you he was endowed by the Gods. Not even in your most powerful form can you defeat us. Link will make waste of you has he has done so before. Or had you forgotten. 'Demi-God of Hatred.' THIS IS YOUR DESTINY GANON! GOODBYE!" Those were Zelda's last words... and so the battle ensued. The fate of Hyrule hanging in the balance. Would Hyrule be ruled by corruption and anguish? Or by Courage, the Steel of Heart and Beauty. The Decision is yours Link. Who will you decide to be? What shall be the fate of Hyrule?
That reminds me of a fangame I own, which takes place after Majora's Mask and before Twilight Princess, but it explains how there were followers of Ganon during and after the events of OoT that were dedicated to creating an artifact to counteract the Master Sword known as the Trident of Power (and Zelda bore the Staff of Wisdom, which is now canon being called the Echo Staff). It even speaks of using the pieces of the twin swords during the fight with Link as a source of it's demonic power and will. It'd be reasonable to state that the item and it's power against the Master Sword might be canon, though not done in this manner.
Hatred. Pure and bitter spite. The Demon King finally has all that he coveted, everything that his envy drove him mad and desperate over, all his at last. But seven years later, this arrogant little wretch, who had unwittingly aided him in getting this far takes it all away from him in only a few days. Destroying his beasts, awakening the sages, invading his castle and finally digs and digs at his being with a blade designed by gods to kill him. Despair hasn't even set in yet as the king unleashes everything he has to become the very incarnation of his incomprehensible rage. He swears he will kill this impudent little rat even if it drags him into hell too.
No an introduction isnt needed he's that well known this is the king of demons himself once a wicked gerudo man now sheding his human half for good this is his ultimate form that goes by only one name...
There will be nothing quite like the challenge of OOT, aside from maybe skyward swords final battle. snap, THANOSNAP. And the last golden triangle i had just left my body.
In older Zelda you have Ganon, the dark-blue Boar, and legendary to every Zelda fan. Then when OOT came out and I saw Ganondorf, I tought maybe Zelda wanted to do some seriously ennemy, a dark humanlike lord. But still, I was sad about not seeing the legendary Ganon, even if for me GANONdorf was a reference to Ganon. Then came the final fight, that basically was playing pong with Ganondorf. When I killed him, I was unsatisfied and sad of this kind of ending for a game like OOT. Then I had to run out of the castle, and I tought it was à better final. When Zelda said "Something moved", I understood that Ganondorf was not dead and will use his Triforce to give me a real final fight. At this time, Ganondorf became for me the best Zelda antagonist. And then, with his triforce, Ganondorf transformed, and I was thinking of a divine armor or something, really hyped. And when I saw "GANON" with the music, I lost my mind. This surely is the best boss fight in every Zelda game, and one of the best boss fight in every video-game.

100% agree with everything you said :)
And the feeling od hopelessness when your loyal sword is swung away. And then Ganon marching upon you and youre almost being helpless!
Dakota Salyer damn yes! Only eyes and swords in the darkness!
The lack of a subtitle, the almost sad music, the darkness of the arena, only lit by dim fire and occasional lightning, losing the Master Sword, Zelda’s horrified screams every time Link gets hit.
This is the coolest and most beautiful final boss in probably any Zelda game ever.
This is f*cking epic. Best remix of this final boss theme, hands down.

There's no game to this day that can match the story and the epicity of this game, nor even botw
As much as I want to agree, original FFVII story is also very compelling and emotional. I’ve always held a tie against OOT and FFVII
you say that as if smelly breath of the wild animals even comes close in any way. pff, even making the comparison makes me sick
As much as I loved Ocarina of Time, I think Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is the most emotionnaly challenging game I ever played. If you did not do it already, I highly recommand you to give it a try.
I love every single thing about this game but that’s cap
This remix really puts the battle into perspective:
You are the last hope for the saving of Hyrule, it's life hanging by a thread, and your best weapon was just taken from you.

The Master Sword doesnt make Link a hero, its standing against evil in its purest form, even when your trump card is gone.
Here's a chilling thought:
Imagine a form of Calamity Ganon that heavily resembled OOT's Ganon.
The same basic form, clad in the same attire with elements of TP Ganon, but now covered in magenta flames and Malice,
And now empowered by the Triforce Of Power and Ganondorf's memories and cunning, fully sentient and full of rage.

@@thegameknight8916 don't mind if I do
Honestly, aside from Twilight Princess, this final battle was just so epic.
"He's not going to hold me back again. This time, we fight together!" -The world's bravest fairy

The Spirit of the Hero, the Bloodline of the Goddess and the Hatred of Demise...destiny beckons and destiny summons.

Anyone else realized that Ganon is holding blades that look an awful a lot like the tip of the Trident he uses in ALTTP?
