damn, those tongue animations look incredible. I love when game developers spare no effort in small details like these, which as you said, are expensive, but personally, I think it reeaaaally adds a lot.
I would suggest the potato kick send you into a wall-slide instead of bouncing off. You take damage, but it encourages you to use that move to evade the tongues.
That "miniboss big; final boss tiny" is so true, especially with Swordigo. The "final" boss is HUGE. Probably one of the biggest things we fight all game. Then the ACTUAL FINAL BOSS suddenly turns out to be exactly as big as your character.
Man i just find your channel on shorts and you are amazing as a Game Dev and as a person, how great it's to find someone with such an amazing chill vibe!
A cool idea might be to have small, non-corrupted frogs at the start of the level as background details, maybe catching flies with their 2 tongues, then as you approach his arena, smaller, corrupted ones that just use the tongue attack to introduce that concept prior to the player fighting the Bobo
12:40 you need to make him do the slam attack like 3 times consecutively like he's losing it for being unable to kill the player, it would be cool for when his HP is really low.
What I appreciate most about this video is the detail you go into about your thinking process and how you come up with ideas about the boss. I think this has been insanely helpful for how I develop bosses going forward.
I don't really know how the rest of the game is like, but I'd highly recommend introducing the spit at an earlier point before the boss. It might lead to a frustrating experience if the player doesn't realize they can't dash out of it, so I think there could be a section before the boss where there's just a bunch of spit on the ground so the player can see how it works (plus it could also work great to get them excited for what's next).
There could be at least one trash enemy that spits so the player is familiar with the concept, and that could be a running theme of corrupted enemies after Bobo too, if you want.
I sure do love slapping more eyeballs onto corrupted designs, so that checks out. Alternatively, have less eyeballs on a corrupted design, especially if it’s a big corrupted monster or source of said corruption.
Really excellent work on this, the art, the design and everything! I just think it is probably a missed opportunity to not have a tongue grab attack on a frog haha.
Hi! I love your channel and tips for developing games! Looking forward to watching all your videos. I first saw the smear video animation tip when a character lands, and your solution of separating the smear from the character. Very helpful! I wanted to ask you if you have a composer hired for your upcoming game? I am an award winning composer looking to work with a talented dev like you! I have a lot of experience writing in the styles of Megaman, Hollow Knight, Castlevania, and a million other things! I'm not sure where to reach out to you other than this channel. Thank you!
First off. Great idea for a boss in this regard. I had a question as another developer. What did you find the easiest way to communicate to your artist about the art? Did you do the coding, then have the art attached, or did the art come first then the coding, then the revisions for the animation variation added?
Hello internets people, only just found this so pardon my ignorance. Does the game have a playable demo or store page on steam yet? From what ive seen this tickles my fancy and am looking forward to playing it in the future.
what game engine do you use? i’m trying to make my own game and i like the look of the engine you use. also it looks great and i can’t wait to play it on steam at some point
Great Boboss
the thing thats frogs do with thier throat when they croak would have been epic for a close attack
OH RIGHT - a croak actually makes perfect sense! If Bobo needs a new attack, croak is at the top of the list!
That's what I was hoping for

Thank you!
Yeah, the extra effort for little details always feels really worth it to me!

That is a fantastic suggestion! I'll give it a try!

Glad you're taking your time with each stage. I can tell this project will be worth the effort👍💯
Thank you!

The difference between a miniboss and a boss in my opinion is that the miniboss is used as a normal enemy later. At least it's like that in some games
12:40 you need to make him do the slam attack like 3 times consecutively like he's losing it for being unable to kill the player, it would be cool for when his HP is really low.

That potato kick is so funny LOL Sent Isadora flying
His potato kick gotta be one of my favorite moves LOL

You would be an absolute blast to play D&D or Mage with and I love that energy. Also great work, the mini-boss looks great!
Thank you so much! :)
I've been a Dungeon Master since I was, like, 15 years old, so I'm glad that it translates to the video, haha!
@@InboundShovel It definitely shows and makes the videos a lot of fun to watch!

That's a great concept lore-wise!
I can't believe this channel has only 50k, it definitely diserve more , keep up the good work!
Really excellent work on this, the art, the design and everything!

Wow the art it's made all difference
I think introducing a counterable attack/enemy before Bobo could be a good idea, to teach the player that its possibe
This is so cool ! Keep up the good work !
Thank you!
You should add a bit of screen shake to the potato kick the emphasize the impact
I love your video’s
Thank you so much! :D
Giant mutant frog is so Blaster Master coded. I love it.
loving the spritework here
Thank you! :D
very cool man, ton of potential!
Thank you! :D
This looks awesome. What's the game called and when can I wishlist it?
Right now the working title is "Isadora's Edge", I should really get a Steam page up for it sometime soon haha!
A better word for "miniboss" is "midboss" because it's a boss in the middle of the level.
True! I think I'm gonna start calling them midbosses instead, it's /way/ more fitting for how they feel in my game! Thank you! :D
Plus all the references you can make to Disgaea if you start saying Midboss.
