Letting the prospect do MOST of the talking while you genuinely LISTEN is key! I once had a canvasser/sales rep for a roofing company show up at my door and his timing was perfect, as we were currently getting estimates to replace our leaky roof. I was on my way out and asked him for his business card told him that I will definitely call him this afternoon when I am back home. He completely ignored what I said then went into a hard sales pitch. He just wanted the "win". I handed his card back to him, closed the door and let him know that he just lost a potential customer...
Paul, the perspective you offer here on our sales mindset is brilliant. Rejiggering the thinking to "what if I delight someone" has implications for the acting, as well as the marketing... I'll be carrying it with me.
