Just returned from Sicily and found it very safe. We were 2 female travellers and used public transport to explore the island, often out late at night. Everyone was very polite and civilised.

Just returned from London. A black guy on a bicycle on Oxford street tried to snatch my phone. Luckily, he didn't succeed. Then two days later two black guys tried to pepper spray and mug me in Notting Hill. Luckily they didn't succeed either. I'll take Catania over London any day.

The Church is Saint Agatha's cathedral. It's built on Top of ancient Roman ruins. I had a Private tour underneath the Cathedral by the Priest and friends from Catania about 12 years ago. Greetings from Newfoundland Canada
I’ve been to Catania many times and never experienced it as dangerous place. I would not walk in the night in certain areas but this apply to all other big cities around the world.

I am from NYC and still live here. I'm researching for my trip to Catania in a few months. The way I look at it is: is it more dangerous than NYC? If it isn't, then it's safe. If it is, then I gotta pay more attention. I always find it interesting how different people gauge 'danger' but I consider NYC quite safe for a big, so I guess it's all relative.

Just today my son & his frined aged 22 Y/o They were pinned with firearms in the street in Sicily , Both back/ back bags were taken , all passports & money they were carrying also taken ! This incident occurred @ 17:00 pm ! They went to police station for statement that’s it ! It’s not safe as both of them not drinks Alcohol or getting any drugs ! Both of them students in university in Belgium !
