    Man, I just wanna say that you are a bunch of professionals! I love the thorough and analytical approach, the cold and objective opinion and the fact that the review is oriented towards the average customer, a normal family focused on the best features:price ratio. Superb! All the reviews that I saw from you follow the same solid principles and I'm definitely saying that the quality that you provide is above anything else that I have ever seen.

    Thanks Thomas for great reviews!
    I bought CX5 red fully loaded few weeks ago, it is absolutely
    breathtaking and drives like a dream (2.5l auto). There is no perfect car
    although for me it is as close as it gets.
    I am 6'2" and it is super comfy. Every time I approach it it feels like a sculptured piece of art. Inside looks and feels amazing as well. There is really no weaknesses, just few
    tiny things like the right armrest doesn't slide. Having CarPlay doesn't
    make any difference for me and they plan to add it later. I have spend many hours at other brands dealerships and when I accidentally saw CX5 it literally blew everything away!
    I had Mazda hatchback 20 years ago and loved it but this year is like a new frontier of design and hi-tech combined in a beautiful package.
    By the way my wife feels exactly the same and we find excuses to go to garage so we can look at the CX5 one more time!

    I bought a new cx5 two months ago mid trim and could not be happier. I also own a CX7 I bought new in 2011. Still the best car I’ve ever owned and maintained after more than 20 new cars of all makes incl Miata.and two vettes. Mazda has been the easiest cost of ownership and pleasurable to drive.

    Thomas, even though I do not care about SUVs and jeeps, I watch your videos to the end, because you explain about the product so nicely and in German way (organized sequencially), and production of the video is great, too. Well done to the team you are working with.

    May I say: "Your car reviews are in fact, the best reviews of any." Keep up the excellent work! I am picking up a 2017 Mazda Atenza in 2 days from now, and much to do with my final decision is because of your thorough reviews along with a lot of reading about Mazda's reliability and sticking with naturally aspirated engine technology. I am moving from a 1972 Ford ZD Fairlane (which I will hold keep) to this 2017 Mazda, so the difference is quite mind blowing. Keep up your excellent work :)

    Hello Thomas , first of all , i really enjoy your videos , excellent quality. :) I drive a 2019 CX5 , 2.0 Manual , FWD. The average consumption is 8 litres , city and autobahn. I am very pleased with the car , silent , beautiful , efficient and a good quality interior. The minus of the car , in my opinion , are the seats. I have the regular seats and in corners , even with g-vectoring , i am moving from side to side a little more than i would like. But on the bright side , even after a few hours of driving , i have no back pains and a I am 1.9m tall , so that is really nice. Maybe with the leather seats , it is better. The 2.0 engine is really good for the city , for autobahn a little more torque would be better . Too bad the 2.5 litre cannot be bought with a manual gearbox , that would have been really nice. Overall , excellent car with really good value for money.

      @@andreitudoroprea9733 Hello , just dont be afraid to go into the 4000-6000rpm range once the coolant is at ~95 degrees , and you will be fine. The 2nd gear goes up to 100kmh and the 3rd up to 140khm , quite a nice range in my opinion. Congrats for your choice :D

    Excellent idea to show more than one trim level at the same time.
    Although it is good to day-dream about the most luxurious version of a car when it comes to reality the affordable trim levels are what most people look for.

    great review. I've made some calculations for the initial & running costs (in Germany) and the diesel option still makes sense after 6,5 years & 12000 km per year. I'm more interested in that because they say it feels faster, even though it has less HP. Keep in mind: the car got heavier by 200kg (damn insulation 😂) than the previous one and the higher torque is really appreciated

    Great review with actual facts and data! Having a 2014 GT i love the vehicle and am very happy with it, until I drove the 2017...wow, it is like a different vehicle. The cabin noise is GREATLY reduced. I was STUNNED at the difference. The doors have double pane glass with acoustic treatment and are very effective. The doors have seals on seals...lol...and the attention to detail is very impressive. Again, great review! Ausgezeichnet!

    Great review as always. I recently purchased Mazda CX-5 Maxx Sport FWD in 2L version with Soul Red Crystal paint. We have 5 trim levels in Australia which are Maxx, Maxx Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and Akera. Maxx is entry level while Akera is top level.
    This is really an amazing car to drive and we found it to be much better than Toyota Rav 4 and bit better than Hyundai Tucson, Honda CRV etc. Ride quality is very comfortable and crisp steering responsiveness. For us 2L engine is perfect as it is not jerky or have sudden acceleration due to too much power. My wife and kids hate those super strong or turbo acceleration. True that it will be underwhelming and probably not a great choice if you drive on hills very often or do lots of interstate commuting but for our needs (to drive in and around city 95% of times and occasionally to hill side or highways), it is the perfect choice as this is the most value for money option overall and has all the creature comforts and safety features.

    Love the exterior and interior design! I think they've stepped up the game regarding interior materials and build quality and sound deadening, and kept all the good things the previous generation already had. The only thing missing is presenting new motorization solutions like hybrid/ev. In my opinion - and design here plays a big part - the best in its class.

    I think part of the appeal of buying a Mazda comes from the after sales care, at least here in Australia. They have shown to be willing to take care of customers that have problems with their vehicles and find solutions to any issues with new models, unlike some other brands that put their head in the sand when problems with their cars arise.

  • @fhkazm
    @fhkazm 7 років тому +1

    Definitely an evolution of the CX-5 design that is even more appealing than the previous model. Front end looks aggressive and sporty. I'd like to see the analog gauges updated to a more modern virtual design, but I'm sure cost is the issue here. Curious about what safety features Mazda has added...emergency braking, lane change assist...etc. Overall, a very nice and sporty design for the money. Thanks for another outstanding review Thomas !

    • @autogefuehl

    Always a good detail, fair review, very detail in reviews, in my personnel view, Mazda should seriously get rid of the touch screen on the dashboard, and start thinking out of the box to come out with a better design for the screen, they should stop being overly conservative. Nonetheless, Thomas, thank you for always providing great reviews.

    Hi Thomas, great review as always!
    In case it interests you: flacher = lower (in this context). "Flat" in English means completely flat (flat as a pancake). Therefore you cannot have "flatter" than flat. [Flach for the sea = shallow] The word "flatter" in English is a verb = schmeichel.

    I have the previous 2016 CX-5 top spec 2.0l. I'm getting between 9.7/100km and 11/100km on city driving depending on traffic and driving style. Lower consumption coming when I'm really mindful and trying to keep inicial acceleration low.

    • @oscarwolffmellado5958
      @oscarwolffmellado5958 7 років тому +1

      Liak Noek I also own a 2016 CX-5 2.0 with front wheel drive and I ve been getting 8.6 L/100 kms in city driving In mixed driving I normally get 7,8 -7.5 L/100 driving without driving like a maniac. I do however have the I-stop system so that helps a lot. With your numbers, you should get it checked as I haven't heard of such high fuel consumption numbers.

    • @liaknoek
      @liaknoek 7 років тому

      Oscar Wolff Mellado I've rarely gotten below the 9l/100km. But I guess that depends on difference in location and traffic in our respective cities. In highway I've even gotten 5l/100km, driving to the beach and so.

    • @oscarwolffmellado5958
      @oscarwolffmellado5958 7 років тому

      Yeah, it could be a reason, but still they are too high in my opinion. You dont mention if you have AWD or FWD, does your CX-5 come with the i-stop feature?

    • @liaknoek
      @liaknoek 7 років тому

      Oscar Wolff Mellado It's FWD only, and top spec with i-Stop function. I think it does well compared to similar engines from Kia/Hyundai, Nissan, and Toyota. Not to mention all the Turbo options out there that never live up to the stated consumption numbers and end you end up with a small less reliable engine in the long run. What SUVs are you comparing with?

    • @oscarwolffmellado5958
      @oscarwolffmellado5958 7 років тому

      Liak Im comparing your numbers with those that other drivers in the Mazda forum I belong to are getting. You are right, even though your numbers are high, they are not as high as other makers. I have a colleague that owns a 2015 FWD RAV4 and she gets like 11L/100 in city driving, while Im getting 8L or even less.

    I feel mazda is doing a fantastic job of interior and exterior design lately. The CX5 is a beautiful car. It looks more premium than the competition and it has every feature safety or otherwise that most people look for. Besides all that its fun to drive. Sure the competition is faster but there is more to driving than being quick in a straight line. I'm glad it doesnt have a turbo. No turbo lag to deal with. Why would anyone need 200 hp to drive around town?

    Thank you for sitting in the rear as usual. It is a shame that carmakers cannot, in general, package the rear, in an under 180 inch vehicle (which the CX-5) is, with sufficient room for a 6 footer front and back, especially since in this segment, CX-5 has more leg room at 39.3, than nearly every other under 180 inch vehicle, no matter the price, such as Evoke, Discovery Sport (37.3 rear), Q-3, etc. Most in this segment are 173-176 overall and other than the lowly C-Max (174 overall), have even less rear legroom for 6 footers. I would hope that some of the newer platforms like the coming XC40, will have the urban packaging which will allow for 6 footers front and rear.

    I went to the launch of this car 4 months ago in Japan as I was considering buying it. Unfortunately I came away cold due to bad ergonomics which I think Thomas overlooked on his short drive.
    Problem for me was the A pillar intruding at a sloping angle into the front of the car which also restricts visibility. ( The old model doesn't have this problem)
    The center console armrest doesn't extend like a Tiguan rendering it useless.
    The center transmission tunnel also intrudes too much into the drivers footwell. ( I know its supposed to be sporty but it just felt cramped in the drivers seat for such a size of car. Navi is tiny too stuck on the dash ( Cheap alternative) Also there is only one up/down touch for the drivers window (cost cutting).
    The rear is a very tight fit. Entering the car is almost impossible without hitting your bottom on the wheel arch intrusion. Once seated leg room is far less than the smaller Tiguan and no control over ventilation/no reclining/windows don't go down fully and the window arches over your head creating a feeling of claustrophobia.
    Sorry about all these negatives but I love the design/price and Masada in general but I think in this case they have put style over practicality with this refresh?.
    I'll wait for the next one but in the meantime I bought a Tiguan which although far from perfect hits most of what a small SUV should be.
    All above IMHO.

    My mother traded in her CX-7 last week and grabbed this vehicle. I absolutely love this vehicle. Add the premium package and a couple of additional features and you have the same quality that you get from more expensive luxury brands. The only thing I wish was different was the engine. This vehicle has a solid AWD system, but needs more than a 185hp/185lb-ft torque output.

    Another great review from Thomas 👍😊 I really like this car, but there are lags here and there. No android auto or Apple carplay?? As I said further down you can "hack" the software and add it but really mazda - in a brand new car? An other thing I do not understand is why you have to buy the highest trim to get ACC. Then you also have to buy the AWD and the biggest engine. That ruin the consumption and the price goes in orbit. Other than that I love it 👍😀

      +martin jorgensen - I agree - on the UK Mazda web configurator, you are very limited to choice of options. It seems hopeless - as you say, if you want ACC, or say the Blind Spot Monitor, or say the HUD, you are forced to go to the most expensive version. And you are forced to take the leather seats...! No choice! Oh, Great Review again, Thomas - Many Thanks.

    As usual, great video. I noticed that you questioned several times if this is a brand new model or a facelift. The whole proportions of the car have changed, not a single piece of the chassis and cabin have been taken over from the previous model, therefore, without a doubt: a new model.

    Hi Thomas! Great review! You just became my first place to go when I do not know something about a car :); Mazda CX-5! Well for me is 50/50 case from a like/dislike perspective. Some aspects are fabulous like the exterior front but the back hmmmm I do like it so much; reason? If you look from behind I find the ratio between metal/glass areas quite bad; I mean the glass looks like a very small area compared with the back of the car; same goes for the back lights which are minuscule again looking at this ratio. Inside is the same: this digital/analogue combination between instruments I do not believe are the happiest selections compared with digital solutions selected by other brands. Would have been better to have exterior elements in the interior features and maybe this is why I find this car kind of a mix between 2 (3 maybe) generations instead a "new" model

    Dear Thomas, Mazda has always miscalculated their fuel consumptions and take their official figures with a big pinch of salt. Every manufacturer does this but Mazda is no exception that is my point. I had a CX-5 and a MX-5 for over 5 yrs. If they have quoted 7 L/100 in real life expect atleast a 9 if not more.

    Great review by Thomas as always :)
    However, I feel Mazda kinda doing what they used to do in the past that is give a model a new design but retains the same engine & gearbox with minor improvement in other areas. Mazda 3 BL of 2nd generation is a perfect example how it was recycled from the 1st generation Mazda 3 BK as everything is so similar but with different face/design.
    I sincerely think this 2nd gen Mazda CX-5 is what Mazda should have produced before. I also agree this is more of a evolution rather than revolution if comparing it to say BMW F30 against BMW G30 which has leapt forward in term of overall design and technology.
