I picked up a Yairi in 1992 in a second hand store in Japan. I was looking at a hard shell case to buy for $50, and then opened it to find a guitar in it! Amazing that my first guitar was a handmade classic! I have since bought two Alvarez Yairi guitars to round out the herd. ...thinking about a classical now... :-)
I have one of the OM shape with the 50 year old Honduras mahogany and Adirondack spruce top. Excellent guitar! I you have the means, buy one. The Honduras mahogany won’t last very long and these will be guitars that you can pass down to your grandchildren.
Absolutely loving my WYM1HD. Bought new around 18 months ago. Cedar top and the amazing 50 year old mahogany back and sides. Just magic every time I play it. And the first guitar I bought with my own earnings (high school restaurant job!) was an Alvarez Yairi 12-string made in 1980 -- still have it - amazing and lovely instrument. Wonderful instruments
Amazing craftsmanship for sure. I love my Alvarez guitars.
I've wanted a Yairi since I realized that's what Jerry Garcia used to play. I LOVE his acoustic tone
I lucked into 2 Yairi solid koa stage models that I couldn't resist snatching up. a DY1CK and a WY1K. I call them the Sisters. Absolutely worth every penny I spent. The figuring is stunning on both. the sound is even better.
Allman Bothers sounding jam. Great sounding guitars, I would love to have that Honduran Mahogany dreadnought.
Yairi for Life!!!!! I love my WY1TS, about to buy a GYM70CESHB. These are of the highest quality of instruments and irs hard to find anything that compares. Very unique.
I have an Alvarez bass. I absolutely love it. The tone is butiful and rich and makes a difference from my electric bass.
Wow! What year is it? I never even knew they made acoustic bass guitars!
MPA66SHB parlor and ADE90CEAR dreadnought are my Alvarez guitars. They are what I pick up 99% of the time.
Talk about intonation & correctability. Also, I can’t tell from this vid about adjustments to string height. Yes, they say they play great.
The standard Yairi line, are they laminated or solid back and sides? Particularly the GY70
Hello - great question! The GY70 does not have solid back and sides, but a lot of the other Yairi models do. If you go to the Alvarez website here (alvarezguitars.com/yairi/), you can filter to see which models have solid back and sides on the left side.
Feel free to reach out with any other questions. Thanks!
