  • This is the second and final part of the walkthrough video for the VALOI 360 camera scanning system with Arild. In this part, he explains the scanning process, offers tips for best scanning practices, and gives general advice on consistent framing, remote triggering, and tethering. The conversion process on the computer, where negatives are converted to positive images, is also explored.
The 360 system is a professional multi-format solution that, when combined with a digital camera and macro lens, lets users scan most film formats, including both available and discontinued ones. This creates a modular and flexible product line for digitising photographic film.

This is very helpful. I have hundreds of slides, 35mm negs, and 120 negs I'd like to scan, so I can't wait to get set up with this system. Thank you so much for demonstrating the workflow!

Sorry to say the gloves will help very little. The grease goes right through after wearing for a short while. Best to avoid touching the film surface at any stage. You can see finger marks using a kind of dark field illumination. Hold the slide to the light and look at it through a magnifier. Then move your finger across the back of the slide, about 5cm away and you will be able to see the marks. The Image Bank library would reject photographs as soon as they saw any marks. I only ever found one lab that could process to the standard I needed and they put them into a long sleeve and thus never touch the surface.
