Enjoyed the video need to pull my 4.3 out of my 92 Chevy. Not like the other videos I’ve watched like they take hood off hook cherry picker to engine. Losing few bolts bam engine is out. You actually show what’s involved and problems one might run into. Thanks I’m subscribing and following. Keep Videos coming I’ll be watching
I worked for an old mechanic as a kid and he kept a mason jar of new pennzoil in his office to show people. It would separate into two parts. Have also pulled heavily sludged engines that were pennzoil from new.
My guy! I feel your pain.. Im currently dealing with 2 broken bracket bolts on my head.. I'm on day 2 trying to extract them with reverse drill bit and extractor kit (NOT FUN), but now I'm really thinking about doing an engine swap..
The old “wives tale” about certain oils causing sludge varies by regions. Around here Quaker State was the red headed step child. I started my mechanical career back in the 80s and it was more of engine design issue that caused sludge accumulation than a particular oil. Shell purchased Pennzoil and Quaker State brands back in the 90s and were pioneers in producing oils from natural gas. By doing that they were able to eliminate most of the impurities that typical base oils have. I own a 95 K2500 with the 5.7. I have to add a bottle of ZDDP at every oil change because it has a flat tappet cam in it and all modern oils are too low in ZDDP for these engines. Even Diesel oils have had the ZDDP levels reduced significantly.
Did you have to remove engine mounts to pull the engine? Or just a lot of wiggling to get the transmission separated from the engine? I’ve got a 96 c1500 long box with the 4.3.
Enjoyed the video, but was that one of them "serpentiming" belts on there? And was there wires going into the top of the carburetor? And where was the distributor?
My uncle was a shade tree mechanic his whole life and swore against Pennzoil. He told me exactly the same thing you said. When he’d crack open an engine it would be full of sludge. Whether or not that’s entirely true I don’t know
Do yourself a favor. Replace the factory 4.3L clutch with a 5.7L 12" clutch. The flywheel and clutch is a bolt-in and it will stand up to the new driver.
Thank you for the upload. It is very helpful for my son and I

lol yep, it's time for a 235 or 292 into a 1990 Silver-der-adoo video to happen!

I've cracked open a 97 Dodge Durango and it was full of sludge and they had a 5qt Pennzoil jug in the vehicle. I haven't touched it since
the 4.3 is tough engine
Do you have a video reinstalling the motor?
The main thing I wanted to see is how you get at the six bell hosing bolts, but you did not show that. 😞
Mirror, flashlight, wobble extension with socket. Works wonders
Hey Jayhawker. I wish you were my Dad.
No one wants to mess with mom
