    I have a 112 and a 108. They are fantastic. I run my helix through them. The 108 wasn’t available when I bought the 112 otherwise I would have a pair of 108s. Very happy with them.

      I heard they said it was muddy. I plan on getting the 112 because it’s cheaper than the powercab. No one will really notice the difference anyways when I play live.

    Hi Doc, very good video! I have the FRFR 108 and indeed it is a bit boomy/bassy, especially when I did put it on the floor in a small room I am using in my house. The way I solved that problem, is putting an acoustic isolation pad underneath it. There are plenty cheap once out there, I paid about 18 $ for mine. It works find for me, as there is now nearly no sonic transmission through the speaker casing to the floor. Just wanted to leave that comment, as it might help out others. Keep it up - fantastic work! Cheers dIDi

May I ask how would this Headrush frfr108 compare to your KRK V6s (correct me if Im wrong about the model but I believe they are some high-end series of KRK) in the guitar tone category? :) I am in a dillemma of whether getting a pair of high end monitors or some mid-tier monitors with a 8 inch frfr like this for Neural DSP plugins.

    Will this 108 sound better than running my mx5 into a Trace Elliot acoustic amp model on a Peavey Vypyr VIP2 1x12 combo? Is the Vypyr an frfr speaker bc you can put guitar bass keyboard or acoustic into it. Im finding the bass on low strings and treble on high strings too much on single notes in either 5150 SLO or RD9 amp models i cant dial out until it become too midrangy and nasal. I have global set to amp and arent using the irs or cabs. Do i need an frfr and use cabs and irs to hear the most out of my mx5?

      Better is subject but im sure going through the FX loop of an amp would sound fine. I wouldn't run it through the input of an amp as that would double up on the Preamp sound.

    Good morning AGAIN Doc.
    Yes, it's me for the 2nd time this morning....sorry.
    I just now found this Video and I don't believe I asked you this in my earlier comment.
    I play quite a few songs where I'm needing to get Harmonic Feedback.
    Now, using this Live, or in any situation, the Harmonic Feedback I obtain, if I run from either my Floorboard or Direct Out from the FRFR, will the Harmonic Feedback transmit from the Outputs of the Floorboard or FRFR or will I need to Mic the FRFR for the Feedback to be heard?
    Sorry....but I definitely THANK YOU for your time, help and reply!!

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  3 роки тому +1

      You can get natural feedback just from the speaker it self as long as you are playing as a certain volume. I even get it just sitting in front of my studio monitors but maybe to a lesser degree.

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  2 роки тому +1

      Well you have to have a mic pre since the 108 only accepts line levels. Using a small mixer would probably work ok but getting a battery powered amp with line and mic inputs would work better for busking.

I have a couple MFX boards that have IR and such..

    @Doctor McFarland Studios This is essentially the same money as an orange rt20. Do you think it’s good value compared. I have an mx5 and am looking for a new combo setup for home play. I had an rt35 orange but honestly it was way more amp than I needed for my house.

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  3 роки тому

      The 20RT is ok. I prefer the 35RT since it has an FX loop. That makes it more flexible. SDNA has a new AI IR option for when you want to plugin to the input of an amp instead of the FX return which the 20RT doesn't have.

    Can you use the headrush and let it power a quilter 101 mini head?

    • @DoctorMcFarlandStudios
      @DoctorMcFarlandStudios  3 роки тому +1

      You would want to use the headphone out as well as a cab sim if you are using the 108 as a power speaker. The frfr speaker in the 108 doesn't not take the place of a guitar speaker and thus does not contribute to the sound other than acting as a power amp and general speaker to project the sound. Read this webpage to see what Quilter says about it. www.quilterlabs.com/index.php/faq/faqresp/can-i-use-this-amp-without-a-speaker-cabinet

      @B I bought one & have been using it for the last month or so. It’s pretty solid but for a full sound you’re best off getting two of them to act like studio monitors. At the moment I only have one & have to face it to get a full sound. Would be a lot easier with two to get a stereo sound. Sound quality is good though. Not like a real amp by any means but it’s plenty loud.

      Ok so got it in and hooked up using STL ignite with a focusrite solo interface using an RCA to XLR cable to the 108. Its awesome. So happy with it. Now I can chug and play at a reasonable volume. I own a Diezel Herbert 180 watt tube head and its a monster. This setup sounds fantastic and is way more practical. I already ordered a second one to play in stereo.

I don’t intend to buy amp modeller yet so the bass guitar would be either plugged directly into the one of 108’s inputs or bass guitar to mixer to 108. Do you think this will sound OK?
