I run a similar rig with my Kemper except I am using two Yamaha DXR10 FRFR powered monitors. Huge sound. The tube amps I have not yet sold are collecting dust. Important to note that it really takes two of these to do the job. I was using one and liked it enough to buy a second. The difference is truly night and day. One just didn't move enough air and cover enough area. Never going back to tube amps.

If you are not trying to peel paint, try a Headrush FRFR-108: a mere 20 pounds (no back surgeries), a moderate footprint for an 8 inch speaker, about $220 (cheaper than almost all), & it sounds good. 4.7* - The people at Amazon seem to like it. I'm happy with mine. Richard
I'm using it with my Two Notes le lead & Torpedo CAB and it's killer! Using my old Pod X3 Live as midi controller and for all the delays, reverbs, mods and other fx + digitech Drop and Freqout and all of this is giving me plenty of pleasure and happiness without breaking my back! 😊🎸🎤🤘
The most crucial point you brought up is the feedback/resonance question, which you may be able to achieve sitting close to your cabs, but in a live environment, not so. I love the idea of FR guitar and was desperate for it to work. Experimented with it enough, took it on stage a number of times. I could only conclude that cranking it up really loud was the only way to ensure feedback when you needed it; which of course killed the purpose of doing it in the first place.
I'm pairing my 108 with a regular 112 guitar combo. I pan my IR's so they don't go into the guitar amp. The 12 gets my guitar ringing, and the FRFR cab puts some extra sheen on the reverbs and delays. It also adds a little push on the bottom end that's fun as long as you don't overdo it...
There are many articles out there about the advantage of using a little monitor when going direct. The monitor helps the low end thump of the guitar through the acoustic coupling of the monitor and guitar. And, like Pete says, it makes it possible to get feedback on the guitar, which can be important.
Yeah the feedback can actually be controlled due to the more directional nature of FRFRs. So can lean into it more or less as needed. Actually pretty great solution.
I've been using the 12" model since it came out with my Eleven Rack as my fly rig, & I bought the new Mooer GE300 Lite this summer when it came out. They all work really well together! On a whim, I even ran my Yamaha THR10 through it using the headphone out jack....who says you can't play a gig with that great sounding little amp? It sounded great! BTW, did you notice the volume controls actually go to 11?! Lol! I think someone in development had a Spinal Tap moment, love it!
I've been thinking of using a single FRFR 108 for my rig. My health has begun to be a major issue for me physically. I think it would work well with my Kemper.
I bought a pair of these just before the lockdown *insert sad trombone sound*. I got to use them once live, and they've been sitting in the closet ever since.
@@Zordid0 I was only ever able to use them once in a live situation, a small club of about 200. Powerwise, they were waaaay more than enough. I could have gotten away with one easily. I was happy with how they sounded, but again, that was just one go with them, so I haven't really put them through their paces. I used single one for full band practice, and it was great there. Just for more context, I played through them with my Helix LT. Soon hopefully I'll be able to really start using them, over a year later. lol
Bravo, you play really well... a mix of Andy Timmons and steve lukather. I really like. I'd like to see a comparison video between the SUHR amp and the BROGNER amp 🤘

I have the Headrush Frfr-108 with Hotone Ampereo modeler. Setup discretely in the living room corner so I always have easy access to play without having a ton of gear in the living room. This setup is great , it does every sound imaginable without the bulk and clutter of a tube amp and pedal board. It's a great tidy do everything package and packs a punch in a small footprint. 2000 watts not really . Certainly not 100 Marshall watts , maybe 18 Marshall watts ;-)
bro... the tone from those hands..yes sure surrounded buy all that technology etc...but it all starts in the hands and in the heart and brother you got a whole lot of both..now as for the headrush speakers...think they sounded realy good and i feel you on the natural interactive feedback..i used some powered speakers from ISP that were similar in nature and sounded amazing..and then i ended up with this monstrosity of a cabinet from them that was a powered 4/12 cabinet..oversized and i think it was about 2,000 watts as well..used it for bass and guitar..sounded crazy good...but the size on these makes them perfect for allot of situations..got a few feeds from the guys at sweetwater on these..but i am a hands on type of guy ..but i live in alaska..so that makes it pretty hard to do that..but that is why i am here...saw the video title..and i knew i could get the goods on these from your channel..i have come to trust your opinion and out look on gear and for that i thank you much....much respect as always and be well brother.
I have 2 of those and a Yamaha analog mixer as my references when making patches for gigs on my helix, pretty spot on, have not had any complains from FOH sound guys, and that’s with no EQ at FOH. It helps dial out a lot of the low end woofs as well as digital high’s... worth the investment, highly recommend it..
Goddamn Pete, the syrup dripping out of that playing is sublime. I run my modeler through a pair of Behringer B3031A's. Sounds freaking amazing but I'd like a portable option.
Used to use this with iridium until i switch to orange pedal baby and speaker cab again..... I just missing out of the speaker bloom too much 😅. It's now relegated for my sy1000 setup tho
Try not to take this as a criticism, just a suggestion. I'm the type of player that values sustain and harmonic feedback above all other factors. If you can't make it sing or scream when you want it to, your rig just ain't happening. It starts with the guitar, if the wood resonates the high notes, particularly from the neck, but this can be helped quite a lot by tweaking the pickup heights. Then it's about the right pedals with the right amp, your volume and your position to the speaker. I have this method down so well, honestly, I think I might have it cornered. I can achieve infinite sustain with all of my rigs. Secondly, I come from a more 60's/70's school of playing, which is not nearly as busy or as hyper as 80's/90's shredding... but it can be, at times. You can induce more musical orgasms by saving the speed for the right part or moment, like a secret weapon you only use at the right time, or build up the speed slowly to build tension, ect... Players like Zappa, Blackmore, and SRV knew this philosophy well. EVH, especially in the early days, took a very different approach by hammering you with an endless avalanche of so many rippin' notes you couldn't keep count until your head implodes, and that's what made him like no other before him. But he knew when to relax as well. But getting back to sustain, this hugely important factor is always missing in most gear demos that I see. Really, like when do you ever see someone demonstrating how much sustain they're getting out of using whatever this or that? Also, trying to avoid those fizzy, transistor sounding highs in the digital age. I never heard that growing up with analog. Everything sounded warm and organic, and breathing with life. Modern guitar sounds so 2-Dimensional. I mean, listen the Black Sabbath's last album, 13, done with a Fractal. Does that sound really excite anyone like the early records?
I have a headrush 108 and line6 powercab 112. Both sound good but completely different. I can get them to sound similar by adjusting the eq on my pod go but when leaving the eq settings the same the speakers are night & day.
I bought a Headrush frfr108 AND frfr112 to run my Helix through. In stereo with some tasty effects it sounds like floating through the galaxies :)

@@steverolfeca Thank you for making my point, that point being, FRFR can't do it on it's own.
Great video Pete. Very clever mic setup solution! Really works.
Lol! I think someone in development had a Spinal Tap moment, love it!
running them on 11 might have your drummer explode into flames though.
I've been playing my Helix LT thru an EV powered monitor. It sounds good until you turn it up. Got to get one of these speakers, or two! Thanks, Pete.
How was your experience when playing live? These in your room or rehearsing would be great I guess but how about live?
@@Zordid0 I was only ever able to use them once in a live situation, a small club of about 200. Powerwise, they were waaaay more than enough. I could have gotten away with one easily. I was happy with how they sounded, but again, that was just one go with them, so I haven't really put them through their paces. I used single one for full band practice, and it was great there.
Just for more context, I played through them with my Helix LT.
Soon hopefully I'll be able to really start using them, over a year later. lol
Could I plug my acoustic straight into this and use as a PA basically? My acoustic has a preamp if that makes a difference
Bravo, you play really well... a mix of Andy Timmons and steve lukather.
I really like.
I'd like to see a comparison video between the SUHR amp and the BROGNER amp 🤘
sounds really thick n rich ....not as 'plastic' sounding as i thought it would b .....surprised how they can achieve that much potential volume (2000watts???) out of an 8"woofer and still get that top edge sparkle and not fart out!!.....we truly are living in the PLATINUM age of gear !! ....imagine flipn the controls of ur trusty time machine and showing up at an impromptu gig with just these (two of them) and a Helix !!! ....you would melt the friggn faces off the patrons - u would have that one guy in a room though that would swear its the mushrooms not the gear!!......(always , through out time, the one guy in the room theory stands up).....have a great December and holiday season Pete!!....b safe n healthy every1!!!....
They aren’t actually 2000 watts !
Excited to hear how these sound and adjust to ultra low volume applications at home. I don't always need to shake the walls
The sound virtually identical at low volumes, you can hear me at one point take them all the way down to next to nothing...
@@DirtRacerX I wouldn't say there's more noise than say, a guitar amp with typical pedals plugged in though? Didn't really even occur to me.
@@PeteThorn i use it with my pod go and i can confirm this, it sounds really good at any volume, its perfect for home use and small gigs
@@DirtRacerX not with a modeller. I use a Helix and it’s completely silent
Ok, so this is a random place to put this comment, but Pete, you make the world a better place. Thank you for all that you do.
Your PT amp sounds amazing. I guess becuase your playing is stellar
They are great speakers, I use them with the Tonex pedal in combination with the Boss GX-100, sounds great!
Thanks. This was helpful. I like your gear reviews because you play so well - and they are informed.
Thanks!
I like using the headrush for bass.
bro... the tone from those hands..yes sure surrounded buy all that technology etc...but it all starts in the hands and in the heart and brother you got a whole lot of both..now as for the headrush speakers...think they sounded realy good and i feel you on the natural interactive feedback..i used some powered speakers from ISP that were similar in nature and sounded amazing..and then i ended up with this monstrosity of a cabinet from them that was a powered 4/12 cabinet..oversized and i think it was about 2,000 watts as well..used it for bass and guitar..sounded crazy good...but the size on these makes them perfect for allot of situations..got a few feeds from the guys at sweetwater on these..but i am a hands on type of guy ..but i live in alaska..so that makes it pretty hard to do that..but that is why i am here...saw the video title..and i knew i could get the goods on these from your channel..i have come to trust your opinion and out look on gear and for that i thank you much....much respect as always and be well brother.
Pete is a boss . Always fantastic and humble.
Thanks Donnie!
@@PeteThorn Absolutely. Well deserved.
Goddamn Pete, the syrup dripping out of that playing is sublime. I run my modeler through a pair of Behringer B3031A's. Sounds freaking amazing but I'd like a portable option.
I have a 12 headrush I use with my strymon iridium. It's good. Surprisingly so
@Luke I keep wondering about the 8s! Are they loud enough to gig?
I used to use a 112 as a monitor wedge with my Axe-Fx II and it was killer!
Pete, just ordered a set of your Thornbuckers, can't wait to get them installed.
Thanks for getting them! I hope you dig
@@PeteThorn they sound amazing sir!
Great demo as always Pete 👍 Those Headrush speakers sound great for sure. ✌
I have a headrush 108 and line6 powercab 112. Both sound good but completely different. I can get them to sound similar by adjusting the eq on my pod go but when leaving the eq settings the same the speakers are night & day.
