Tagliabue and Callas sing the hell out of this. Callas refuses to use the orchestra to "fill in the blanks" the way many do in this brutal role. Every note is sung in full. The Scala orchestra is pretty merciless I must say. They have two dynamics.....on and off.

Le problème avec Callas ,c'est qu'après l'avoir entendue dans ce rôle ,on s'ennuie avec les autres cantatrices .Elle met littéralement le FEU sur scène !!

And to think that she once said that trovatore should be sung predominantly in mezza voce! This wasn’t even her full voice? 😅
