OMG!!!! Thank you Max. What a thrill to listen to this which is most likely exactly how she sounded. We appreciate your devotion to Callas in making the effort and taking the time to do this, it is fabulous,. I always loved this aria sung by Callas, but to hear it like this leaves me speechless. What an artist!
The sound quality and remastered is amazing, I didnt think it was the Athens concert till I read it in the comments. Being an amateur I tried to remaster that concert fron my CD but I failed😓 you did a really great job!!! studio quality congratulations!!!!👏👏👏👏🤗🤗🤗🤗
Marx, thank you, I agree, the original sound in this recording is so dry it is painful to listen to, despite Callas's amazing singing. I really enjoy and appreciate what you did sonically with it, AMAZING!
Thank you Marx for un-deadening the acoustics of this recording. Callas and Wagner were strange bedfellows who seemed to make it work. I think Marx has somewhat corrected the transposition which usually occurs at 2:13, and which has always befuddled me. I don't know if that transposition was a choice or a problem with the original tape.
You sound a bit muddled. Strange bedfellows? She sang Isolde, Brunhilde, and Kundry during the early part of her Italian career. "Undeadening" is misleading. All these added artificial resonance, awful as well as unmusical, detract from the quality of the original recordings.
@@marieclare-ue6kl I said that they were strange bedfellows “who seemed to make it work.” I enjoy her Wagner, but it is far different than what you get from a Wagner singer like Flagstad. I really don’t think what I am saying is controversial. The acoustics of the entire Athens concert are dry to the point of being unlistenable. I’ll take a touch of reverb.
@@ER1CwC Hey that was quick. Thanks! No offense intended. In return I would like to recommend the biography The Unknown Callas, by Niicholas Petsalis-Diomidis, Amadeus Press.
@@marieclare-ue6kl Not at all. I bought that book years ago, but it has largely been collecting dust, I must confess. To elaborate a tiny bit, her voice was not dramatic in weight (especially here, but even earlier on), but she did well vocally in Wagner. She seemed not to have the same urge to push as she did in verismo, which is not as heavy vocally speaking. Also stylistically, she is very Italian, but I like it. (I am realizing my reply seemed a bit defensive. I apologize! It is late where I am.)
Callas was a great Wagnerian. One hundred years ago, Italian singers sang Wagner as a matter of course; Aureliano Pertile was a noted Lohengrin. Callas was one of the last representatives of that noble tradition, and probably one of the best.
Very well said , thank you. I couldn't resist listening to Nilsson after this,. Of course great singing, but is it the language? I found it vocally superb but somewhere the emotion was lost on me. I had to return to this clip to get Callas in my ears again. That's when I scrolled down, saw your comment which inspired me to share.
I prefer this version much more than the 49. ❤❤❤ and the remix is beyond excelent. Studio quality.👏👏👏👏👏💪💪💪💪💪

La Callas es insuperable en cualquier aria de ópera dramáticamente y musicalmente . Armando Cerutti - barítono
Grazie Marx❤ Anche in Wagner Maria insegna
There is tension and involvement in the voice which make Callas' version unique. (It's also beautifully sung.)

Amazing remastered!! Thank you so much, its a marvel to listen to!!
Несравненная, божественная, незабвенная!
It's a pity she didn't sing the original German libretto. I'd love to hear her sing in German.

This is almost unbearable intensity!
