I love this concept, and I can totally relate to these women. Adversity is what makes us who we are and gives us strength. My issue is with the notion that "Native American traditions" are homogeneous. Each tribe is "one of a kind!" :) The Native American experience is one that few have endured, but it's an important history that we should all remember and appreciate, and I love that this tradition was implemented in a video that has been viewed by thousands -- but it's equally important to note that we are not all the same :)
Wow! I never realized it but I had the same things happen to me as Michelle! I get bullied a lot. I don't often consider myself to be special and surprisingly enough, I live in a small town with mean people like the other girl! But I first of all, I started making jewelry. I made it and sold it. A lot of girls loved it, some wanted to sell it like me and made their own. But they always came to me for my beaded jewelry. One day, I forgot something in home room and overheard two of my friends talking about me. This was 4th grade, before the bullying got really bad. One girl said, "What's so special about her jewelry anyway?" Which was weird because she pretended to love it in front of my face. But the other girl replied, "because her jewelry is 'the bomb'!" Hahaha remember how I said 4th grade? We weren't exactly cool then haha. But the nice girl has been my friend for a long time now and I will/ have done anything for her (give her my clothes when she couldn't afford it, offer to sneak her in my house when she was kicked out, set up an emergency bag at 3 am full of blankets, food, clothes, etc if she needed it, give her money to help her grandma pay the bills, etc.) The other time was in 5th grade. That year was the one that made me leave that school. Death threats, being hit and not allowed to fight back (by boys and girls) , a girl tried to push me down a flight of stairs, the list goes on. I didn't get along with the cheerleader girls and Even my teacher was involved in the clique. But one day, I just started writing. I wrote a fictional story about a girl being bullied by a popular girl and for a moment, things changed! They stopped being mean to be just for a little while because of my writing. They loved my story and wanted to read my chapters. If I wasn't in my emo stage, I would have let that story go on the whole year just to get by. I still write to this day. I never thought these things made me special or a "one of a kind". But it is pretty cool how similar our stories are. But I think I have developed some pretty bad issues since the bullying. It only stopped last year because I don't leave my house anymore. I can't fight back due to my health and it isn't safe for me out there. However, I do hope I can see what they're talking about first hand.
My group of friends used to have a friend that was so mean. She worried more about how she looked and about popularity rather than her grades so she couldn't go to any dances and hangout. She even dated a guy I liked. We told her we didn't approve of her behavior so she left and now she is trying to squeeze her way back in. My friend who can't stay mad at anybody is letting that happen and I don't want to upset her so I just sit quality. She never let us be ourselves but, now I'm going to be myself and they can't tell me to go away if she gets mad. I brought them together, I'm the glue that holds us together I'm the loud, outgoing, funny, chance taker, and not to mention the leader ( even though I'm the youngest ) so if she can't accept us for us then she can get her stupid little butt out of my life and stop ruining it. By the way one of my favorite motos is you can mess with me but when you mess with my friends or family you better run and sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt. Thank you for inspiring me! P.S: don't try to be yourself just let loose and be you!:D
Talking about being one of a kind when doing a native american tradition...(aka non individualistic tradition). I'm surprised there wasn't a Dr. Pepper can somewhere in here

Well, sometimes you get thrown off track. No one is perfect, and everybody makes mistakes, so you should not be targeting her for one thing. If she wants her chin modified, then so be it. Your nose shouldn't be in her business anyways. I'm pretty sure she still loves the way she is, she just wanted to make one change. So chill out.
