If you want to feel the plane you can also buy some buttkickers. I have 2 and it makes a big difference.
6:15 Lol….why u dragging me into this lol
LOL just having fun
Good luck 😂
I think he wants you to buy him a pimax 8k
VR is DCS is amazing, especially the helicopters. Having that sense of depth perception while flying low or hovering is irreplaceable.
i agree, also, i use a force-feedback stick i created from recommendations (it's a Frankenstein stick) for helicopters and some WWII birds , but i extended the stick with some Carbon Fiber tubing. and then put the Force-Feeback on steroids. The result is a stunner in VR in DC in a Heuy. and other air vessels.
Once I got my VR about 1.5 years ago, I have never turned my TrackIR back on. Its on another level! Thanks again for the video.
My track IR is on another level all it's own that VR will never reach. Top back corner of a shelf.
There is absolutely no way to ever experience a flight sim or racing sim without VR. The emersion is just amazing.
@@mikoriad agreed. I even have a hard time playing anything that isnt VR anymore. Ruined my other games. lol
@@armhunter vorpx can VR non-vr games. I've used it in shipbreakers, sailwinds, and a couple others. It is a hit or miss tool though
@@idlouis45
Completely different devices. VR uses either base stations to track, or the easier camera tracking in the helmet.
That depth perception makes all the difference. I love the weapon view you can really zoom in. Even the screws have details.
Scale is also important for the immersion.
I love VR flying. It feels so tight and the immersion is pretty crazy.
Yeah, It's something
Me too 😊
I'll never go pancake again
I tried so hard to like VR but the reverb G2 was just so fuzzy in every part of the screen except the dead center of the FoV. The clarity you hear people talk about just wasn’t there. I tried everything.
@@PvtPartzz sometimes its like that. The G2 is very IPD picky for example. A FOV mod could help. Wearing glasses mostly is a problem, too.
I love doing low-level flying in the cities too. I wish I could really bust windows going supersonic
Flying in VR is a game changer. Spatial awareness cannot be reproduced on a 2D panel. I was barely able to land helicopters and perform aerial refueling when I started flying on a screen. Then I got a VR headset and it all made sense...
if you wanna feel the shaking of your plane i would recommend getting a but kicker it attaches to the bottom of you seat and simulates vibrations
passing through a hole in a buildings and flying low in buildings. that is some ace combat stuff right there.
ILS onto the boat? I was expecting a SHB after that hot dogging around the city!
LOL, I should have done that
-How many licenses did you lose? -Yes. :D
Your talent with the gun is always a joy to see. "No scope! There we go!" SU-33 : "No! Not like this!" 😂
Once you get it all optimized without looking like a single pixel you will never want to go back.
Flying in VR is the only way to fly a sim
Hooked my DCS up to my brothers vr. Freaking amazing.
Freaking sick afterwards. Does that ever go away?
@@The_SmorgMan yes, it goes away after a few days of flying. Its like getting your sea legs. As soon as you start feeling nausea, take a break and come back to it later. You have to build up your tolerance. You might need to adjust some settings
I’ve never used TrackIR. But in VR, being able to actually look around naturally, just by moving your head, combined with the larger FOV, is infinitely better than any monitor.
Plus you actually feel like you’re in the cockpit. It is not just a increased feeling of depth perception, it is almost lifelike immersion.
And you can feel a sense of motion and distance. Your eyes trick your body. For some people, too much motion in VR makes them nauseous, but it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
A couple of things:
1. It's interesting that "USS Valley Forge" is on the tail.
2. You mentioned controlling the pitch with the throttle as you were approaching the boat. I'm not sure if you just misspoke or not, but in close to the boat pitch is controlled with the stick, which then controls your airspeed. The throttles control your glide slope. I know sounds backwards.
(Former S-3A Viking SENSO and USS Midway Museum docent. I know lots of carrier pilots.)
yep, just like in slow flight - pitch for airspeed, power for altitude.
In a hornet you use elevator trim. You should need no elevator stick control at all.
VR let's gooooo!
Ive been to that National Geographic symbol " Dubai Frame"... It would actually be really scary seeing a plane go through it.
Hey longshot, a trick I learned from watching some actual dogfighting videos and it works fantastic with VR. when you're banking, to check your 6, put your back against the wall panel and look on the opposite side of the headrest.. which would be the vertical side of the cockpit as your headrest will be horizontal during the bank. This is the best method I find for dogfighting. Also OPENXR tookit has input smoothing so your head isn't all janky and hard to hit the cockpit switches or stare at a target lol.
"those two buildings - they're just asking for it at this point" 😳
thank you LongShot, great video! please do a follow up to share your nvidia, oculus and vr/dcs-graphics settings
Definitely would love to see more videos in vr, and more videos like this where it's not just dogfights
Great vid Bro. Loved the landings with VR!
Thank you
I LOVE flying between buildings too on this map! So much fun in the Hornet :D
4:47 I got worried for a second there...
Love your video, fun and informative. Not like this other guy I have been watching, Growling snake or something like that.
Awesome video, no VR no buy. I just noticed you run the x56 hotas as well. I love it in combo with the Thrustmaster F-16 stick.
I think you and GS should shift to a nice VR set permanently and use some de-shaking tool to improve video quality in post processing ( I know for a fact Google can do it in phones). I tried playing with trackIR and it SUCKED. Not fun at all, really appreciate what u guys go thru to get that content out for us.
Yeah, I tried it, it works fine, but it cuts the image to stable it, and even when choosing the wide option, It's still pretty zoomed in.
Not good for a video.
If there is something I'm missing, I would love to get some help
Absolutely love your work. Have you tried a jetseat yet? It makes all the difference, you feel everything. Match it with a buttkicker and it is on another level. I can’t fly without it now
Awsome man, we could see you were having fun! Looking forward to getting a VR headset too, it will probably be the HP Reverb G2.
Thats awesome, I heard great things on that VR
The airshow was well done! Great job.
I saw a real airshow with, amongst others of course, a Finnish F/A-18 just two months ago. Such an impressive aircraft and the pilot did a hell of a job.
Just amazing .I want to get that and will. I feel like a caged Bird without a good flight SIM right now
Woooow good shooting on that first merge!
Definitely rolled into that ace on the boat. 😀
Yeah more VR please. Love the fact you can hear people stretching their necks around. Also how you are recording/streaming this.
"Thats gonna ruin some office meetings" hehhehee
Awsome video man!! I was just buyng a VR headset myself. Gonna try it tomorrow. 🙂
Oh you are in for some great time
@@LongShotChannel Yea i cant wait lol. I had the first Oculus Rift when it first came out years ago. But i havent have a VR for a few years now and never in DCS. Its gonna be a treat
quite educational.. thank you
That earned you a sub!
Thanks
I have the Rift S too and I really like it, I know there are better headsets out there, but it works great for me!
Once you go VR for flight sims and racing sims.... you can never ever go back. Great video! What are you using to record, OBS?
This was thoroughly entertaining! What is your pipeline for capturing the VR footage? Do you record the head motion and re render a replay? Or is it a capture of a mirror?
I would like to do something similar for racing. Can you give me any pointers?
Once you go VR, it's really hard to go back. Only drawback that I see is we need better shimmer reduction to be able to read the MFD more easily.
Commercial planes don't land long, they tend to land on the touch down zone, however if you glide too much it will result and a smooth landing
I love VR myself revolutionized my gaming. I got an vive but he's a bit too heavy for long plays.
VR gameplay for those ho never seen what's like to see in 3D inside a game is simply unexplainable in words.
5:19 That was a perfect opportunity
Reverb G2 / RTX3080ti / Woojer (belt) ... and its feel like u sit in it. ;) U can´t believe how much is the power of this single engine from the F-16
I need to know how you recorded this looks so good I also have an Rift S
I just wish my headset wasn’t so low-res. It’s the old CV1, old faithful! I’m gonna upgrade one day lol
"Permission to buzz the tower(s)" - Maverick 1986 - Longshot 2022
Puh, Navy Boys will not be happy 😂 Landing on the BOAT 😤 Typical air force guy 😅😉
Damn you made me wanna buy VR lol
Your name is incredibly accurate
I really want to go VR next for DCS. Which would you guys recommend? I have a lot of physical add-ons to my simpit though. Which VR headset allows you to see out of the bottom of it? Or has cameras on the bottom? (I saw one model with it before).
4:46 we all thought about it
can u ask maverick if he could transfer that 50 bucks from last time? hahahah
nice video.
I can't even get my trackir to work properly. I use VR and I love it
Man, your graphics are great. I am running the quest 2 and having some issues dialing the graphics, any recommendations. Thank you and great video.
longshot has his callsign for a reason
BAT21 TO Longshot Congratulations on your 50th Kills on your UA-cam Subscribers So thank you for everything you do BAT21 OUT (I got your six)
Thanks so much BAT21, your support means a lot, thanks brother, cheers!
Hey long shot there is a lot of broken windows on that beach and the building u cut through lol
LongShot, Have you ever tried vtol vr? it's a very fun game in vr in my opinion.
LS... shooting bandits, and making secretaries on the 40th floor pee their pants....
My new VR headset should be here Monday. FINALLY decided to upgrade the ANCIENT HTC Vive I've had for...like...6 years. lol
We'll see how the HP Reverb G2 goes. 😎
Nice! Have fun!
I imagine a full force feedback HOTAS + controls setup with VR is about as close as you can get to those military combat sim pods. Apart from the physical requirements and the change in stakes, I bet the best DCS players could transition into real pilots.
Hydraulics recommended, sold separately. 😉
"Lt. Longshot, your presence is respectfully requested in the captian's stateroom"
Oh no
The U.S. defense dept. Would like to take this opportunity to pass along all the purchases of office glass windows to you the pilot!!!! 🤣🤣
it's funny. VR is so immersive with DCS that you strain while making hard turns. I do the same thing. DCS Tags, TimberStiffy \Happy Gilmore \ FlashGordon
I love flying in VR, actually I only fly in DCS in VR.
You mentioned that you can't wait for Eagle Dynamics to optamise DCS to make more use of the GPU, are you assuming they will do it or have they stated that it's part of there plans?
They said they will. I think they talked about the Vulcan engine, not sure if I'm getting the name right
@@LongShotChannel Thanks for the Info man! 👍👍
@@LongShotChannel What is his email again? I want to sent the bill for all the windows you broke.
It'll be Vulkan with a K (with a C is like Mr Spock).
For anyone that's interested, Vulkan is a layer between the game and the graphics hardware called an API - other examples are OpenGL and DirectX. Right now, DCS uses DirectX11 which is a high level API - that means it abstracts away a lot of the busywork, which makes it easier to use. The downside is that a developer has littel control over how the API handles some things, and if the API wants to do something in a sub-optimal way (for example, sending 1,000 draw calls for 1,000 similar objects instead of putting them all in a group and sending one big instruction instead) there's not much the developer can do about it.
Vulkan is the opposite. It's a low level API. That means that developers have a lot more control over how it does things and can be a lot more efficient with the hardware - splitting big jobs between multiple cores, for example. There's fewer layers between the program and the hardware, which means less work for the CPU to do, saving resources and improving performance on slower CPUs. The downside is that it's easier for the developer to break things if they're not careful - they're taking on a lot more of the responsibility for the application's performance for good *and* ill.
@@winterscrescendo My CPU is a quad core i7 7700K 4.2Ghz & GPU NVIDIA GTX Titan Xp 12 gig & 32 gig RAM & I run DCS off a SSD.
I have noticed my CPU does a lot of the heavy lifting ingame so I assume DCS is not utilising my GPU as much as it could.
I fly in VR and can maintain solid frame rates with mediam graphics settings.
So any news of potential optimisation gets me excited!
Thanks for the info! Much appreciated!
No scope baby!
Yup!
Nice. How are you recording VR footage?
Dope
I’m sure it’s in the description or in the video somewhere but what VR are you using. Pimax?
I think G forces are coming in a future update.
I don't think my PC can quite handle DCS in VR. I have been playing a lot in VTOL VR though and I can confirm, flying around in VR is something special that a conventional monitor just cannot compete with.
i would like to see the hal tejas mk1a in action
With vr, have you mapped all your keys to your controls? Or do you just have to get good at typing on a keyboard without seeing it?
I wish DCS had support for interacting with the cockpit controls using your hands. The rift can't support this, but the quest 2 could. The Q2 has cameras that detect your hands. You don't even need to hold a controller.
Almost all I need is bound to my HOTAS.
Only rearly used stuff on the keyboard
How did you change the display to be full screen? When I run vr its always displayed in a big circle for the VR view.
Is there a shake when your using the Rift S? Or is it just the video?
No overhead break landing on both accounts. Not angry, just disappointed
How are you making these videos in vr mode? And how are you getting those nice third party angles?
Aren’t you Red Panda Mining? 😁
To make yourself real popular you have to buzz Burj Khalifa @ supersonic :)
dont suppose you can output your video to 3D format so we can watch with the red and blue 3D glasses? there are videos on youtube in 3D
Is there a Pimax in your future ? 🤔
I hope so... but now I cant
How do you record the game in VR? I can't do it without it looking stretched or a very small rectangular aspect ratio.
How did you record VR so clearly?
About the shaking, does DCS have any support for "butt kickers"?
Next upgrade a buttshaker then?
Try HP G2 if you plan to upgrade. I have Quest 2 and when playing through wire and supersampled to 1.7x I can honestly say it looks as clear as a monitor, at least in cockpit view, maybe spotting could be worse but I do mostly A/G so...
I think a G2 having better screens (Pico 4 is an option cause is newer wireless and cheaper but not easily available in US) would be even better.
Also, on my end when I had RiftS the performance not only graphics was worse than with Quest 2.
i want to try this with my oculus quest 2. how is the resolution vs a monitor?
Hey Longshot, where are you in the world? Where are you from? And how many languages do you speak?
Could you post a video in VR so that I can try in out on my goggles?
What graphics settings are you using?
I run DCS world on 1050i graphics card with 8gb ram, maybe 10 years old ? on medium graphics no problem. You don't need a good pc for this game or microsoft flight simulator, as long as you are OK with Medium / Low graphics :)
5:17 i thought he was gonna crash
VR is a slippery slope.
Entry price has come way down, but then you start feeling that you *need* a HOTAS…and then additional Virpil control hardware, and then … (Don’t ask me how i know.)
Как же круто !
So will you be doing more stuff in vr or is is just a one time thing?
I wish to do more
