this is actually a genius idea, i don't know why i never thought of something like this before since i'm really creative and handy too. i will be having surgery soon so i'm looking for ways to make cleaning up after my pets easier so i won't have to over do myself and end up getting hurt or risk opening the incision, and this seems like a wonderful alternative to a $400+ self cleaning box that i can't afford, i'll probably even use this after i've healed too since it could make cleaning up faster and more efficient
Thanks for sharing. Hope you heal up well. The system does work really well. My basket scoop finally broke a while back and I haven't made a new one yet. But I still use the tilting method to expose the clumps and poop and scoop with a large metal scoop. Tilt and sift is definitely the way to go regardless of the scoop size. Drilling so many holes to make the basket scooper/sifter is kind of a back breaker just as a warning. Good luck
Still probably the best thing ive ever seen.i dont use clumping litter but i use pine pellets. As ive made a sifting box from 2 huge totes. But as you mentioned you have to lift the whole thing. One thing I didn't fully point out about the Omega Paw litter box is that if a cat pees on the sifting grate you will have half a pee clump inside the sifting compartment and the other outside, AND sticking clump pieces on the grate too. I have a 3rd box not featured in this video. My darling wife did mention that she "can't lift it with a finger." while it may be true that not EVERYONE will be able to maneuver the scoop with one finger... @@iknowyouwanttofly I no longer use the lid with the opening because this particular bin shown in the video is not tall enough for a cat to sit up straight. I want my kitties to be able to have sufficient comfortable space so they can go about their business pooping 💩 similar to the way they would outdoors. Not sure if I know what you mean by dumping in. The large basket scoop can be difficult at times to empty into a small trash can. Sometimes I simply dump the clumps and poop on the surface of the litter then use a typical hand shovel to easily scoop everything off the top to accurately put it in the can without dropping a single grain of litter 😹 Hope that answers your question. My green box was retired and I can't measure it. I've since gone to Top entry and no longer bother with cutting a side entry. If you're still planning a side entry I'd say 6 inches. This will leave a couple extra inches to help keep litter inside when the cat is digging. 4 inches is usually the MAX depth of litter to be used. A door that is 6 inches from the bottom will leave exactly 2 inches of a threshold... Or rather a "litter-hold" 😹
Thanks. True, it is not a good idea to keep food near the box. Who eats in or near their bathroom, right? I think many people do it out of convenience... Or to create a sort of, "cat room" or "cat area" I have my treat/ wet food dishes near the litter box. Those dishes only have food in them for a brief moment each day at least. It's also a good idea to have a couple feet distance or more between food and water so that your cat is less likely to get food in the water and make the water gross. Even more true if you have a water fountain ⛲ feeder. It makes the filter and pump work harder when food gets in
I know your former pain of the Omega Box...not enough room, too many pieces, I always hurt my hands snapping it shut, that long arse scoop is a joke...lol 😄*sarcasm* Plus, the Omega snapped @the sifter part....I had to remove it, & expand the pan. I believe you mean the "SIFTING DEVICE?". I have an instruction video on my channel you can check out. It's a second plastic bin, cut in half. I used a blade style 1/2 inch drill bit to drill holes. Wooden dowel screwed in for handle.
voici je because shipping a box this large is so expensive (unless you live in AZ or UT. The total price will come to about $100. Because of this expense of shipping I killed my crowd funding project and also let my patent pending status expire 😢. I know this idea would have helped many... So I made my videos
If your talking about the cat door holes,... I cut those with an utility knife. All other holes (handle holes and sifter holes) were drilled through in some way. All boxes I've made since are top entry and lid-less. I just skip making the door. If you and your cat don't need it then you can skip it too
💩That's kinda funny. And yet not so funny💩 It had a good idea but has some major flaws. Especially if you got cats that pee or poop in corners of boxes. They pee on the sifter grate and you end up with 1/2 a clump inside and 1/2 outside the sifting compartment. Mine will have a similar problem a little bit, mainly because of the bins not fitting perfectly flush inside one another clear to the bottom. ( a problem that would have been remedied with their real marketable idea vs this DIY one) but the problem is rare and cleanup is easy when it happens. Just a big tap on the scoop shakes it off. Then scoop again. Good luck with whatever box you end up with. Subscribe if can and haven't already . I need 1000 subs for new UA-cam monitization regulations. Thanks for watching and commenting
+Shari Feekes when conditions are right the Omega Paw was a great box and I gotta hand it to them for their tilting/turning idea to help inspire my own idea. I have yet another idea that (in my mind works even better!) I need to finalize the actual construction of it to see if it works as I envision.
There's an air filter in the room. It does a good job. Litter box is routinely cleaned. I add baking soda to it sometimes. Most of what is stored in that room is household tools, the vacuums, laundry machines and soap, other cleaning products and supplies. Cat food and cat stuff. The only linens or towels stored there are rags and dirty clothes bin for rags I'm not worried about the dust and things in there. Another large box is in the master bathroom. Overall, my home is very busy and crowded. 8 people and 5 cats. 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Never a dull day... Gotta improvise sometimes 😺
@@Byromie understood. I'm such a neat freak and I know how bad the dust from my cat litter coats everything! They have their own room and I have to wash the walls regularly so that's why I was grossed out, lol.
Your very welcome. I wish a company would have invested in my idea too. I've sold one (built like in my videos) locally before, but with shipping elsewhere the cost would be $100. So far, at that cost, everyone is happy making their own. For a very long time I've been thinking of redoing my DIY video and giving one away for free as a way to boost my subscribers. I try to find time to post weekly, but building viewers still escapes me. I've got tons of ideas and videos in many categories and subjects, cat and not (more ideas than time). I've got something special planned for cat related video. Hope I can setup, shoot, edit, and post soon Stay tuned. Thanks for your comment. 🐱 Comments are encouraging.

@@Pineapple-ob2kb Thank you very much! I have indeed seen the movie Joy. It was inspiring and encouraging,... But also discouraging. Discouraging, because I don't have her courage to put so much on the line and in the face of so much adversity and theft of intellectual property. Especially when I have not only myself to take care of, but my wife and six kids... And 4 kitties 😹😻. But I do still dream about it being in the stores. I may yet still try to push that. Thanks
I hear you that’s completely understandable however your idea is truly genius & if she can do it, so can you! :) hope to see your cat litter box & your other inventions for sale someday God Bless 🙏
I haven't rewatched the video to check the size of the bag I threw out, but sometimes it varies. Three of my cats will go outside sometimes. Only one cat stays inside 100% of the time. Sometimes there's only a few clumps other times the bag is nearly half full 🙀. But, point is... I can find a single tiny clump/turd 💩 (or multiple larger clumps) in a larger volume of litter, faster than any other sifting litter box design out there.
We all help out around the house. My 6 year old son vacuums the floors often recently. Speaking of vacuum, check out my 1st impressions review of the lupe Vacuum (best stick vacuum ever). ua-cam.com/video/hVhCVAfOtpo/v-deo.html I decided to break up my channel a while back. I do tips and reviews on ModnaR Spit. Continued cats stuff on "Cats & Fluff" channel. Though I'm hoping to get one last important cat video put here on my main Byromie channel. ( a problem that would have been remedied with their real marketable idea vs this DIY one) but the problem is rare and cleanup is easy when it happens. Just a big tap on the scoop shakes it off. Then scoop again.
Good luck with whatever box you end up with.

Cool idea but I love my Omega Paw.
+Shari Feekes when conditions are right the Omega Paw was a great box and I gotta hand it to them for their tilting/turning idea to help inspire my own idea.
I have yet another idea that (in my mind works even better!) I need to finalize the actual construction of it to see if it works as I envision.
You put the litter box in the linen closet?!! What about the dust and smell?
There's an air filter in the room. It does a good job. Litter box is routinely cleaned. I add baking soda to it sometimes.
Most of what is stored in that room is household tools, the vacuums, laundry machines and soap, other cleaning products and supplies. Cat food and cat stuff. The only linens or towels stored there are rags and dirty clothes bin for rags
I'm not worried about the dust and things in there.
Thank you 🙏 I wish you’d sell this!!!! 🙂
Hope I can setup, shoot, edit, and post soon
Stay tuned. Thanks for your comment. 🐱 Comments are encouraging.
Honestly, watch the movie Joy :) & seriously I love your idea! It would be so cool if you could sell these at a big store like pet co..... Target, QVC ...I personally think your idea is Genius! 👏🏽
I have 4 cats and 3 litter boxes, and that amount of waste is literally one day per box lol.
They were right. That isn't much poo
So who cleans the floor now..........
We all help out around the house. My 6 year old son vacuums the floors often recently.
Speaking of vacuum, check out my 1st impressions review of the lupe Vacuum (best stick vacuum ever).

I decided to break up my channel a while back. I do tips and reviews on ModnaR Spit.
Continued cats stuff on "Cats & Fluff" channel. Though I'm hoping to get one last important cat video put here on my main Byromie channel.
I try to deligate and rotate chores out to all able persons. We had a milk jug break on the floor last night. I and my 12 year old helped clean that before it became a bigger mess. 6 kids 4 cats.
